I just purchased my 2nd Datsun 521 truck after I so,d my Datsun 620 and this video gave me some inspiration for future build . I like my 1970 Datsun 521 for I would never have to smog it & swap any engine I want later
Wish I could have gotten a little 521 series truck like this when I was living in Murfreesboro Tennessee. I could have really used it. These little trucks were the very best little trucks you could ever have had, I always loved Datsun/Nissan trucks from back at that time, they ran so well and ran that great.
Cool ride, had the same truck 35 years ago. Two issues i always hated was the headlight fuse would heat up and blow out. And steering column too lenghty putting wheel in your chest. Slammed mine too. Got a vw caddy pickup now
Gorgeous bro, just bought my own beat up lil 521 and been working it nonstop. Seeing this beauty gave me so much inspo for what to do with mine. Again beautiful truck my man
Keep it stock. Paint the underside of it with black rust olem paint and sand her all down on the body, prime it and get a nice color to paint your little girl. Once done, invest in a paint on bed liner coating to protect the bed from rusting out. These 521 series Datsun trucks are beautiful looking and they run forever as long as you take good care of them and matain them properly.
Great video! Very informative and your pick up has some impressive gitty up! Thanks for posting it on the FB group page. It gives me motivation to keep working on mine!
Nice build, just FYI on your Fitech menu go to DFCO LOW and DFCO HIGH to help with deceleration fuel cut out. This setting will help with the off throttle deceleration popping. The low # which causes high vacuum will cut fuel. High # which causes low vacuum will add fuel. So basically off and then back on throttle.
I noticed you're getting some backfire on deceleration, when you downshifted to exit the freeways. Might that not indicate a vacuum leak or lean out on deceleration issue? Very cool truck and nice custom build!
Hey Pete for a future vid could you or mind showing the rest of us how you did those hood lift struts. Just noticed this. I’ve put them on both my Nissan trucks and it’s a great upgrade. Thanks. -Pidge
Geez....I can't believe I didn't finish this video when I first started it.....who knows when. lol I had a red line up until just before the shout out about my parts. Thanks!!! It's been a long time since I've done those Z'd LCA's. lol This makes me want to start a "customer rides" page on my site. :) -Mike
Wish Datsun/Nissan would start manufacturing these 521 series trucks once again with their fuel efficient 4 cylinder engines in them. Gasoline is going back up to over 6 dollars a gallon, again. We need these small cars and trucks once again back on the roads, and fuel efficient vehicles again, not these 4 door station wagon trucks with wagon wheels and thin tires on them, which are gas guzzlers and are hard to manover around and drive. These smaller trcks and cars with 4 cylinder engines are all ya need.
I had a brand new one in 1970, it was my first car, it was Maroon in color, I put 14”/8” wheels on the back with F-70 14” Good Year tires on it, i put 50,000 miles on it in the first year, I could beat 914 Porsches all day with it. I had to trade it in as my 2nd kid was on the way, so I got a 510 Wagon, put 171,000 miles on it, those 1600 Single overhead cam motors were bulletproof.
Should have kept the truck, and gotten the wagon for the wife to use. When your in your own home there, you could still use the truck to make home improvements and haul things around with it.
@@danbasta3677 I did, I got a new 1974 model and gave the wife the wagon, unfortunately after two years a drunk driver hit me head on and totaled it, I'm lucky to be alive.
That is dirty!!! Love that man. I gotta 69’ 521 myself with the slow poke J13, and when I say slow poke it sure is. Your truck gets and up and goes, that’s pretty impressive. Love the stance as well the whole 521 just looks good. Do you have a build page over on Ratsun by chance I could check out? And your running 14” wheels with Mikes kit?.........AWSOME looking 521!!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 -Pidge, Ontario Canada.
It is a beautiful truck, that's for sure. Wish they were still being made today gasoline is on it's way up to 6 dollars a gallon, again. These little 521 series Datsun/Nissan trucks were really great on gasoline savings.
I am in the process of converting my 79 kingcab to efi and want to go this route, the only thing I can't find confidently is the adapter plate, do you have a part number or link for that?
Do you have a link for where you bought that coolant outlet with the extra ports? It looks very similar to a 240Z one, but I'm not sure. I have a 77' 620 KingCab and I'd like to go the same route with converting my L20 to EFI. Nice 521, thanks!
And these 521 series Datsun/Nissan trucks to. Liked the 620 to. What more would ya need than these little cars and trucks that are fuel efficient and save money on gasoline now that gasoline is going all the way back up over 6 dollars a gallon once again.
quick question about the blinds in the back window. Are those the units they've got on ebay? My little trucks great in the winter months but I can already tell the desert sun here in NM is gonna be hell through that back window on my neck/ back!
@@ThePSpack could you, at your convince, hook me up with a few pics of them, how they attach, etc. I may be able to fab up a set. And are you on ratsun at all?
Excellent I would say. Those little 521 series Datsun/Nissan trucks were excellent little trucks to run and own and were great on gasoline savings. Wish they could only come back into production again.
How to adjust the engine cid value I have a Datsun 521 and I used the same system as you but it won't let me put the correct value 108 is an L18 engine
He has since stopped making the adapters. I’d look on Ratsun, or the 521 Facebook group. Someone else is probably making them, or better yet a ball joint conversion.
How tall are you? I am 6.2 and I feel like you're siting a little close to the steering wheel for comfortable ride on longer trips. How are the legs after a longer ride?
I’m 6’2 also. I think I’ve gotten used to the driving position over the years. After really long trips I’m hurting. From San Diego to LA is no problem though.
The cab space back then was much more longer I truly believe. I to am over 6 ft and currently have a 02 Dodge Dakota regular cab 4 wheel drive truck and I struggle getting into the truck because these manufactures shortened the cab space up so they can make more money selling an extended cab truck or a 4 door station wagon truck which I don't need. A regular cab truck is all I ever wanted and need, nothing more since I don't have a wife or children. Besides, you can haul more with a regular cab truck than you can with those ugly looking 4 door station wagon trucks with wagon wheels and thin tires on them.
This is a 521 series. They went from 1965 to 1972 and a half. Then in 1972 and a half, the 620 series was the next designed Datsun truck on the market.

Adding the relay to pull power directly from the battery and not through the switch has made the biggest difference.

what was the mod to the distributor, I have a Pertronix conversion done to my l16, would it work for the fitech kit, or what did you use?
