I have a lot of friends who work in animation and it's really nice to see someone talking about this. It's incredibly fucked how they threw out people who make not even a SLIVER of the amount of money the CEO makes, who are the lifeblood of the company, in the name of tax write offs.
It's honestly crazy how this dumb middle aged dude who probably isn't any smarter than the average guy is making decisions that screw over hundreds if not thousands of people's livelihoods while simultaneously making more money in a year than the GDP of some island nations.
honestly, this is beyond upsetting from a content and business standpoint as well. just, people always claim rich people are successful but many just inherit and destroy wealth with their greed. the deal to buy Warner should have NEVER gone through.
My mom works for Warner media and she just got changed from a lawyer for unscripted shows to scripted shows, which she has no idea how to work. I’ve listened into her calls with the higher ups from discovery and it’s clear that they are stuck up doushes that have no idea what they are doing. Now her job is in risk all because Discovery doesn’t know how to run a streaming service. Forgot to mention: almost everyone that she knows has either quit or been fired, including her boss and her bosses boss just quit. Please don’t bankrupt my mom’s company and let her keep her job. You can't say to huge directors like Nolan and Villeneuve that hey we're gonna take your made-for-theatres blockbuster and drop it on streaming same day, and not expect them to get pissed the fuck off. It was burning bridges, and guaranteeing that even if those directors wanted to make a movie for a streaming service, it wouldn't be for HBO Max.

Not to mention the immediate high quality pirated copies, which means even less asses in seats OR subscriptions. If I was making a movie and wanted to make a movie for the theatres, I'd go to Universal or Paramount, and for a streaming service movie I'd go to Netflix or Hulu or any of the others. No doubt project popcorn made them money during the pandemic, but in regular times, it's cannibalism. You're burning your box office sales to prop up your streaming service while being a dick to your creatives. No chance that'd go well for WB in the long run.
@@ashb7 like reshirman said tho, ppl would adapt. music transitioning from a purely live medium to physical media and then streaming has obviously had a huge impact on the industry, and whether thats for better or worse, its obvious that people are used to it, consumers prefer it, and theres no point fighting it. realistically i think its pretty much inevitable that more and more movies will come to streaming on release (as streaming services keep fighting for dominance), and more and more people are just not gonna care to go to theatres. but there will always be a market for theatres just like theres a market for live music. the role will just change
Black Adam definitely has a back story to be made into a movie however I do not trust Dumb CEO #3 to understand that or step in to make sure the story is good lol
