Heifetz had a proportionally shorter 4th. Look at his portraits in black and white. Proportionally to his own fingers, meaning that his fingers were still extremely long.
Far more than helpful because I am a self taught have struggled with 4th finger all the time. Thank you for posting this video and keeping us motivated!!
I love your short to the point videos, this is actually helpful for someone like me, who’s trying to learn violin with limited resources. I’ve spent lots of hours carefully listening to other channels but only %50 of them helpful. Thank you!
Good tip, Another great "trick" to figure out perfect hand frame is before playing anything, Do a left-hand pizzicato with the 4 fingers one behind the other in the G string, It also works as a test, if your hand frame is too low you wont be able to successfully pluck the strings , Happy practicing!.
I am experiencing this issue as an electric guitar player but I think your explanation on hand position and pinky tilt might be what I need. Thanks for sharing
Your editing is masterful. Your videos are both really useful and entertaining, keep them coming because it's only a matter of time until yours becomes a top violin channel!
Omg! I discovered YOU 30 minutes ago! Beter late than never! I’d love to have lessons! Your talent, experience, passion, knowledge..I must also say, sorry but you and violine is just so charming. Handsome strong man and fragile emotional violine! You made my Bday!
(France)
Hi Filip, thanks for your videos. I don't quite understand when you say you put your fingers flat. Is the point of contact with the strings at the fingertips, near the fingernails, or is it in the fleshy part furthest from the nail and closer to the joint of the fingers? Thank you.
It's somewhere in between 😂 I'd say try reaching deeper into the string. In my case it's roughly a 25 degree angle to the fingerboard. Does that help? Also don't be afraid to touch the other strings. When you don't play double stops/chords and especially if you vibrate it's totally fine to touch other strings. Does that help?
@@filippogady thanks very much Filip!!! I've been warming my head over this for a long time. On RUclips, some say one thing and others say the opposite. Your technique works very well for me. It would be very helpful if you could make a video about this. I would be very grateful.
Yes, about this and what area of the fingertips touch the strings. I know that each violinist is different and that each one has to find their way depending on what their hands are like, but it would be of great help. Thank you so much.
I’m no one, but I find the very tip always results in a better sound. But sometimes it’s impossible due to speed requirements. But my goal is to be able to place it fast. I fixed my collapsing 4th finger this year by doing shadriek exercises and fixing my thumb position and pressure.
My problem is that often when I put my third finger down, my fourth finger pulls back away from the string. It's almost a reflex. I think it would be an extremely difficult habit to break completely. Is it realistic and worth the time and effort to work at never, ever doing that?
do you mean position those base knuckles below finger board? I thought the common approach is to have base knuckles high, which involves turning in left elbow more. I am going to give your approach a try.
Your 4th finger looks longer than my index finger though

Damn, I didn't even watch the video when I found your comment, and it was really helpful. Thank you!!! :))
So helpful - and so funny! You are a delightful teacher!

Omg! Thank you! I thought my pinky was weak but it just needed that angle. Great explanation 👏

Liked the table test. Totally true with the angle. Thank you!
not only helpful but entertaining, too . Thanks!
This is spot on. I have small hands and playing on the right edge of my pinky is a game changer.
May the 4th be with you 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hehe, I just had to...
Please do more videos on these exercises, especially the left hand 👏
Vibrate the hell out of this! 🎉
This video was so helpful! Thank you ! (Don't understand why so many teachers aren't able to explain this)
I have started to learn the violin by myself. And your videos are helping. Thanks for the videos.(Free).
This was so helpful 😭 I used to crack all my joints so I was bound to a collapsing finger
