The part that makes me cry the most is the moment in which Paris receives her diploma and looks at her family, and they just look so happy and excited for her, and she looks so proud of herself and proud to be part of her family. It makes me think how beautiful Paris character is.

TV shows and movies always have valedictorian speeches...And they're always cheesy and have lyrics in them at some point. And even if they don't, they always sound so alike. Interchangeable with another character's speech from another show/movie. Rory's speech was so poignant and beautiful and really articulate. Like everything on Gilmore Girls, it was perfectly written. I never cry whilst watching TV but the moment at 3:35 made me cry the first time I watched it. One the one hand I feel so sad for Paris that her parents, who are supposed to be there, aren't there for her (and never were, really) but on the other hand it makes me so happy to see she's so important to her nanny's family. Paris in the other hand are in the same intellectual as Rory so its more relevant if she gave because Paris rather than Mitchum. The problem is the awful way in which Palladino approached the Yale seasons in terms of character arcs and overall writing. Season 5 was the last good season. That's how Rory, Logan, Lorelai, and even Lane ended up. Living miserable lives and basically becoming loosers. If Palladino has that view on life in general, she should stop writing tv shows at all. However, some still claim Palladino's approach in the revival was "plausible and realistic". I disagree. Some people achieve their dreams, others don't. Some people are happy, others don't. Life is not black and white.

My god. Rory´s graduation speech is by far the best scene in the whole show. So touching, beautifully acted and truly inspirational. It´s also one of the best episodes too. The last scene when Lorelai and Rory go down Chilton stairs and behold the building for the last time really goes with the show´s overall bittersweet tone. On the one hand, we are happy to see Rory become the best in her class after so many obstacles and that she got to give that speech. On the other hand, deep inside, we fans of the show could feel that saying goodbye to Chilton also meant saying goodbye to the best seasons of the show too, since, with Rory living at Yale, the series would never be the same afterwards. Don´t get me wrong, the whole show was great (save for season 7), but the first 3 seasons were its peak since Rory and Lorelai living together had a level of closeness and intimacy that could never be matched. Sadly, that´s what happened in the end, but we also knew it had to, as Rory´s dream was to go to college become a journalist.

Idk if this is an unpopular opinion, but as much as I love this speech and I love Rory, her being valedictorian made no sense. Just from a common sense standpoint, Paris was always working as hard, maybe even harder, than Rory and we always see her be ahead. There is no moment in the show where we see Paris fail anything the way that Rory did when she first started, and its unrealistic to say that she would have reached Paris's level, especially because Paris was continually trying to beat Rory and herself. Also, Paris was at Chilton for 4 years, which means from a curricular perspective, that freshman GPA would have given her another advantage. It just doesn't make sense to me.

This is probably the third or fourth time I have watched this scene, and I have been reduced to a puddle every time! Rory’s speech is mesmerizing, poignant, thought-provoking, and emotional. I don’t think the actors were acting here, these were true emotions because they have watched Alexis and Rory grow from a girl to a young woman. Luke crying gets me every time because you can see how much he truly cares for Rory and how he wants the best for her, his pride when he found out Rory had been accepted to three Ivy League colleges was genuine, he’s definitely a father figure for her

I never understood why the family dinners were such a problem for Lorelai. I could understand there were problems between her and her parents but honestly felt like sometimes she could be so selfish. I felt it was the least they could do in return for paying Rory's tuition.

At my high school, we voted for our valedictorian; it wasn't based entirely on GPA. Idk if other high schools out there did this. If we wanted to apply to be valedictorian, we did have to have a certain GPA and give a practice speech so that the other classmates could make their vote. It’s funny they also said, “Don’t make your speech about yourself” which is exactly what Rory is doing here. It’s sweet, but it should be about her class as a whole.
