Excellent tones. I think a lot of the Helix haters haven't dialed in the EQ properly and then go online and spread the negativity. I can't wait to try out the settings you used here. Thanks for sharing them.
Guitarists can make terrible producers, and you have to start borrowing from the producer mindset when you get into this kind of gear. This tone might not sound all that on its own but in the mix its really great.
Dude this thread is a gold mine for good advice, lots of love and minimal hate...kudos man, see what a good tone and a willingness to share info starts! 😉✊
Luke Harwood What's up man! So your tones will only download as a Pod Farm 2 Tone. For whatever reason it doesn't download as a Helix Editor tone. Did you incorporate Pod Farm 2 somehow?
thanks for posting this! was liking the Helix for its many benefits as a gigging solution but so many people knock it. glad to see good tones are certainly possible. Have you ever played with it straight into the PA so you didn't need to bring the power amp?
TradHunterRN what you heard in this video was all helix straight into my mac. No external power amp or cab. When I play live with my bands I always use my power amp and cab as I never know how good a venues PA will be until it is too late haha
Luke Harwood good point! thanks for the info! forgot that you had already said in description that that was a direct signal. sounds great! keep up the good work!
That is how I usually use my helix. Check out my instagram channel (harwood_rocks) for loads of clips of my helix through my matrix GT800FX and MESA recto 2x12
terry lafauci personally I think it is better to have them separate. firstly because if the power amp breaks you can just get a new one - not so easy with a built in one and secondly it is cheaper to buy a power amp and unpowered kemper than it is to buy a powered one.
Luke Harwood I've already got a tube amp, it's the EVH 15w lunch bow head... which I love to death but stuff like the Kemper and the helix seem to offer more. I'm curious though, would I be able to run something like the Helix through the power amp of a 15 watt tube amp?
Hi, I've had the Helix for a while and no matter what I do, or what IR I use, EQ, etc. I can't quite get rid of the slight buzz on the gain. Any ideas? Your tone is so much better than mine. Main guitars are Les Paul Custom, Ibanez Iron Label, PRS SE Torero. Thanks.
Try reducing the 4kHz frequency at some point along the chain. I find with most modelers cutting that specific frequency sometimes helps cut that fizz.
On an equalizer of course. :) ....not all eq's will have it, for example MXR's 6-band eq pedal only goes up to 3.2k but their 10 band goes up to 16k and has a specific knob for the 4k frequency. Keep in mind the guitar's range is generally 80Hz-1.5kHz, with the meat of it being in the 800Hz-1200Hz range (it's a mid-oriented instrument), however the dynamics of the tone are still affected somewhat by the frequencies above and below that, especially if dealing with downtuned or 7+ strings. The 4k frequency is a good starting point, however really anything above 2k can be fair game for cutting down on. I just don't always recommend necessarily cutting too much or completely because that ends up taking some of the sizzle out as well, which can make things a bit muddy when mixed with bass and drums. Another golden rule with EQ's that I've always found works: Never boost frequencies, only cut. Subtle adjustments on EQ's often yield the best results. Good luck!
Adam Hill bro play this in a mix with a band and that "bitey" turns into brutal fast, this is a tone meant to be in the mix. Get used to playing with it and when the time comes to use it in a band or recording situation you'll be very pleased!.
Henrik Lien I use a Matrix Amplification GT800FX to power my mesa 2x12 live. There are a lot of different power amps out there so depends on your budget/needs
Alrighty! :D Was thinking about getting a full stack, but getting a marshall head/engl or something else would be unnecessary.. Do you know if the Harley Benton GPA-400 is working the same way? I'm a little noob in this.. Haha xD
the signal chain was just the amps with over drives as shown in the screenshots. I added delay and reverb for the lead bits. live i use my helix with a Matrix Amplification GT800FX and MESA recto 2x12 and it sounds sweet.
that's my main live set up. occasionally I'll take my MESA dual rectifier out and use it with the helix 4 cable method but not very often. check out my instagram account there are loads of clips on there.. harwood_rocks

Geoffrey Gaster there is a guy called Lee albrecht on RUclips and in his demos he uses podhd500x and it sounds brutal

Hey man, nice vid! Thanks for actually showing BOTH pages of the amp block!
Sounds so friggin good
I'm coming back to hear those insane riffs :D
Marcin Wojtaszczyk check out the full song. Search for 'hand of god path to prevail'
I am not a metal listening guy but you deserve all the likes, nice tone and playing! \m/ (Every second listened till the end :) )
thanks man!
Luke can you share this patch somewhere to download please!!?? Thx
I have just uploaded these to line 6 custom tone under my username 'harwood_rocks'
You rock !! thx:]

Such a wonderful tone. Now I just need to get a sponsorship from Line 6 XD
Pretty nice tone and sick riffs
Just downloaded the tones. Thank you! 🤘
Killer riffs man!
Imho, this sounded really good. Thank you for not scooping the heck out of your kids.
Bad ass prs core!
Hi Luke! Great video and great sound! Did you use a default preset for this song or some patches by someone other? Thank you ;)
Vittorio Rondino I created the patches.

Awesome Sound! Why do you use the Helix? I think the Mesa in the backround make a better Tone?
Within the Ruins the fact that I don't use the mesa in the background shows how good the helix sounds.
Just bought a helix rack yesterday. I've been jamming and your tones sound so clean and crisp. Could you post a link for a download of your patches?
Thomas Norman I have just uploaded these to line 6 custom tone under my username 'harwood_rocks'
Nice :) I didn't expect the line6 helix to sound any good, but it does
I think the helix has left a lot of people pleasantly surprised.

Luke Harwood when you play thru a power amp and cab, you don't use the cab sim in the helix, right?
Great tones. Are you using the tube screamer on all the patches or just the last one? I'm still struggling with my Helix.
the settings for the tubescreamer and cab were the same for each tone.
Anciing enak uga helix😅
Nice demo btw
AWESOME! Where can I find TAB for song?
Hmm I wonder if it will sound as good thru a power amp and 4x12 cab...
That is how I usually use my helix. Check out my instagram channel (harwood_rocks) for loads of clips of my helix through my matrix GT800FX and MESA recto 2x12
temaso!!!!
I wish they made these with the built-in Power Amp like kemper does. if that were the case, I would be all over it.
terry lafauci personally I think it is better to have them separate. firstly because if the power amp breaks you can just get a new one - not so easy with a built in one and secondly it is cheaper to buy a power amp and unpowered kemper than it is to buy a powered one.
Luke Harwood this is all new to me so I'm still learning lol

Thanks a lot, that has helped
Whyere do I find this 4kHz frequency`?

Why would you need a equalizer when having a multieffect board to 1500 euro?
What kind a paddleboard do u use control the rack during gigs...nice playing btw
Mini Surf thanks, I use the helix control with a mission engineering sp1-l6 expression pedal
Hi bro, can you share the global eq settings?
Saludos de Rio Bravo Tamaulipas
The global EQ is off
The tone sounded great here so I downloaded it to my helix and sounded way "bitey"
Any suggestions?

What kind of vst drums do you use?
Henrik Lien superior drummer :)
Man I miss living at my moms. Eat like shit, save up for cool gear, wear my hats indoors 😫
Me too dude, if I could roll back 10 years I would have even more cool gear!
What amp should I use with Helix for a live situation?
Henrik Lien I use a Matrix Amplification GT800FX to power my mesa 2x12 live. There are a lot of different power amps out there so depends on your budget/needs
So there is just needs for the Matrix Amplification GT800FX and a cab/speaker?
Henrik Lien that is correct.
Alrighty! :D Was thinking about getting a full stack, but getting a marshall head/engl or something else would be unnecessary.. Do you know if the Harley Benton GPA-400 is working the same way? I'm a little noob in this.. Haha xD
If you have a sound engineer connect direct to the mixed!
What was the signal chain here? Also, for good metal tone, would the helix work well going straight into a power amp then to a cab?
the signal chain was just the amps with over drives as shown in the screenshots. I added delay and reverb for the lead bits. live i use my helix with a Matrix Amplification GT800FX and MESA recto 2x12 and it sounds sweet.
So you're using the Helix for all your tones. Your not running a tube amp anymore, just helix into a matrix power amp. I'd like to hear that tone.
that's my main live set up. occasionally I'll take my MESA dual rectifier out and use it with the helix 4 cable method but not very often. check out my instagram account there are loads of clips on there.. harwood_rocks
I love how some parts make you smile, thats where it's at homie!
Great stuff!
EVH Gear TV thanks!
