Just love your reactions to John. I’m a bit late to you guys and John. A couple of suggestions John much younger singing Bridge Over Trubled Water and at his 50th birthday singing who’s loving you with human nature backing him up over time you can see the talent remains ❤
Both Lisa Edwards and LIndsay Field were truly loyal to John as backup singers/friends for 30 years -a damned long time to still be around and be so loyal in ANY industry
I adore how far away he has to hold his mic to make sure he doesn't blow the system. John is an Australian Legend, Lisa is well known. As an Aussie, utterly proud of him, them.
I heard the other day on the radio a short excerpt of John speaking about a forthcoming book and you can hear his old voice is in there somewhere, but it's clear he's been pretty severely damaged by his surgery. It's sad, and I don't think he'll ever sing again, short of a miracle. Still, it's probably a miracle that he survived at all. Thank heavens John is still earth bound & hasn't been "Lifted up by Angels". We've got enough video and streaming of him to let him live his private life as he wishes from here on in. We're all truly thankful to have had him entertain us for as long as we have.
All free range singing - no 'mixing' all live, head and chest voices, no tricks, no smoke and mirrors. Just pure talent & chemistry. John only ever surrounded himself with A class singers, musicians & very nice people, just like him.
Very impressed that Suzy recognised Lisa's ability to ride John's laid back phrasing perfectly from her octave up in the first verse to soaring harmony in the second chorus, note for note, breath for breath. And as you pointed out - what a band. A beautiful song, beautifully performed.
John is what we refer to in Australia as a Dag........he is so down to earth, a real easy bloke and an amazing entertainer, he sings the roof off and at the same time has fun, he is a true Aussie legend.
Lisa is one of his long standing friends and back up singers. The other long time back up female singer, Vanetta Fields features with Johnny in a performance of Amazing Grace. Beautiful
Lisa Edwards is a legend by any standard...she is originally from South Australia and was inducted into SA Music Hall of fame but has worked with ( backing vocals ) - Noiseworks, Ross Wilson, Billy Thorpe, Brian Cadd, Kylie Minogue, Olivia Newton-John, Tom Jones, Lenny Kravitz, Cyndi Lauper, Ray Charles to name a few...and has been part of John Farnham's family since 1988.
The reason the singing together with John is so tight, is that he has been performing with his band for literally decades. They all know each other so well, that all the nuances in their techniques become blended really superbly. John gives cudos and credit to all his band members, and anyone that he has collaborated with, always. He has incredible credibility and morals, both as a performer, but just as a man. Praying he recovers well and is able to live a healthy life....
John Farnham has been around and singing since the days of black and white tv. Since then, he has toured the world and this wonderful nation so many times it's just become a part of the norm. Mr Farnham has given so much of himself for so long and, in so doing, brought happiness and joy to so many of us through the good times and the bad, it's quite extraordinary. If I may, a personal and profound thank you, John. Your songs, your singing and your personality have uplifted me on so many occasions. In conclusion, I will say that if Mr Farnham is no longer able to sing for us, that's fine. The man is 73 years old, for crying out loud. Has he not given enough? Should we not just say "thanks, mate, for everything. Now, just get well, will ya'? We love ya, mate", and leave it at that? So, thanks, mate, for everything. Now, just get well, will ya'? We love ya, mate.
Hi Guys, Very sad right now. John Farnham has Cancer in the Mouth. Last tuesday he had a 12 Hour Surgery. A large Part of his Jaw had to be removed. Please Pray for him. He is a Great Australian. We Aussies Love him. 😢
There is just so much more to John Farnham., "Farnsey"...that you two have yet to discover. Not just his amazing voice, but the reasons we are all such huge fans is his humanity. There is not an ounce of Diva in this man. He supports and showcases everyone else in his crew putting them in the spotlight...he has encouraged them to go onto bigger and better things...he has even done back up vocals, on his backup singers records. His band and backup vocalists have pretty much all been with him for 30/35 years. That wouldn't happen unless he was a good man to work for. Not just workmates but best freinds. And no doubt the reason they all read each other so well. He is always the first on board when a charity concert is being done for floods or drought releif or supporting our troops overseas. He is just an ordinary bloke, a bit of a larrikin, Daggy yet so funny with an extraordinary voice and ability to connect. He always seems so surprised at his own voice sometimes and gives a little look that says shit did I just do that. You can also tell that he his overwhelmed that people love him so much. I do hope you stay on this journey and see some more sides of this amazing performer ...
Oh Carolyn I loved your comments....Agree 100% No huge ego here only his ability to move one and make us feel the song... and yes I've seen that look on his face when he just slays the vocals lol....I hope the guys do more of John...as I really enjoy the respect and critique they give.
@@grievesy83 Oh that's great news Jez G thanks so much....So many interested in John's performances from all over the world...Love seeing their faces when he opens his mouth lol. Yes I'd love them to see Gethsemane viewed too, just to show this emotional performance which is still the best I've seen today.
This shows the rapport, not only between John and Lisa; but in extension to all the members of his backing musicians and singers, to him they are family. This is the reason he is able to approach, although nervous before hand, all of his performances with ease and grace.
A beautiful duet and I love your breakdown Suzy of Lisa’s ability to complement John’s vocals so well. Thank you Jeremy for these requests, looking forward to the next!!
It's a gorgeous song and performance by them....such long term collaborators. I always note how respectful John is with his fellow performers by holding the mike further away so he doesn't dominate the sound.....watch any song where he sings with someone and he's always bringing the microphone further away so they can all be heard. No ego with him.
He holds the mic further away because his vocal power levels can overload the mic and distort the diaphragm. The relative sound levels for the audience are controlled by the FOH (Front of House) engineer from the mixing desk in the middle of the venue. On stage sound by the Monitor Engineer, side of stage. Cheers! 🙂
@@micko11154 I wouldn’t know, but someone once told me that his and Lisa’s microphones are the same save for the mike sock on John’s. And he’s still pulling it away, presumably so it doesn’t blow up in his hand. I was at I think a concert from The Last Time tour at Rod Laver Arena, one level up but just about beside the stage. At one point during the acoustic set when he was on our side of the stage, I distinctly remember hearing John directly and over the top of the speakers. Sometimes I wonder if the mike is just a prop so he has something to do with his hands?
Terrific commentary from you two. Absolutely spot on with everything you picked up. This performance is how you do it … sing from the heart, first class musicians, great arrangement and genuine personality. John is so at ease. Notice his mike use in this song. Just John, pure music and excellent support vocals all working in a friendly and supportive team environment. This video shows you why we LOVE John. He is the best larrikin going around. And … John always pays such respect to his fellow performers. He’s the drawcard but he respects musical artistry and works in collaboration with others to produce the fabulous music he’s presented to us for decades. Live vocals and acoustics. How good is this?
As much is as much a solo powerhouse, he is the best ever at duets.....he never sings over the top, engages, harmonises perfectly and here he allows her to bring the song higher....it must be daunting being on stage with him...kudos to her
The incredible thing about John Farnham is, you think he hit the top of his range, then he go's higher. I saw your review of 'Gesthemene' which was very enjoyable. I think his performance in Gesthemene was probably his best ever. Amazing, amazing voice.
What a beautiful first song to start the day... John is my angel that always lifts me when I'm down... His voice always brings emotions out in me and let's me have the cry I usually need ... Suzi and Travis your critiques are always on point and your genuine smiles of enjoyment are infectious..... Thankyou!

We all love him. And wish him all the best in his recovery. Check out the chemistry between John & Olivia Newton John singing "Please Dont Ask Me" - WOW!!! Now THAT'S next level chemistry between two performers - who were best friends. They adored each other.
listen to him sing the voice,,amazing control and power... one of the most outstanding voices over the years..he makes it look so easy when it is not..
The thing with this song is that it highlights how he often tries to put Lisa off her game and make her laugh just before she sings - can't recall the video [floating around on YT ] where it shows Lisa doing the same to him just before they sing in revenge for him playing the fool with her so often. Basically just great friends playing on stage.

How powerful his voice must be, to be so clear whilst holding the microphone all the way down at his chest!
Yes! His voice is incredibly powerful, and masterfully expressed. He leaves enough volume to create a perfect blend, without overshadowing her voice.
