I never thought I would live in a possible future where mainstream audiences are asking for, nay, DEMANDING a Dune Messiah adaptation. It is mind blowing.
Turns out having a complex lore and not letting politics sabotage it is a license to print money. To bad Disney/Star Trek never got the memo.
@@dixonhill1108 star trek was politically correct and/or woke from its inception, that's kind of the whole plot and the best thing about it in many ways, proactive caring people building systems for the betterment of all. Star wars is a kids show. nothing wrong with that either. It's a separate issue that visionary films haven't got made by big budget Hollywood productions and it's more to do with overly cautious investment, people aren't going to put down 100 million dollars on a bet they don't think they'll win. Luckily Dune improves those odds and the market will hopefully shift in a more creative direction.
@@dixonhill1108Imagine thinking that Dune isn't political...
@@dixonhill1108 What in the name of Chani's blue eyes are you on about? Dune isn't political? Also, when was Star Trek not progressive and political? Get ya brain checked yo
The reason could be the yearning of many people for a spiritual experience, you could argue that Dune1 and Dune2 are pretty spiritual experiences for ones that are open to it. I see no difference to classical religious tales.
Cannot wait to see a guild navigator in his tank and THE FACE DANCER, MY GOD THE FACE DANCER
I have so many choices for actors that I want to play the various faces 😂
yes!
I don't think we'll have guild navigators, they haven't introduced at all.
Duncan ghola FTW
I kinda hope DV split it into two parts again because that sounds a lot of content to cover.
He who controls the directors cut controls the spice.
and the audience
😂😂😂
Ironically, Villeneuve does not do director's cuts.
(This makes me incredibly sad because there are so many deleted scenes that I wish would see the light of day.)
Therefore he who controls the director's cut controls the universe?
More like the extended cut. Denis Vileneuve is a orinal cut purist to the ninth degree.
The imax guy really pulled through for us all we owe him one.

When I thought about it, it's masterful how much lore they didn't include in the Part 1 and part 2 and yet didn't overwrite any of it, leaving the door open for the later movies to introduce it all, while ALSO setting up all the little crumbs for events later in the series.
The visions are clear now. Denis saw possible futures, all at once. Our enemies, mind numbing superhero movies and flogged to death franchises, are all around us, and in so many futures they prevail. But Denis sees a way, there is a narrow way through.

Let's just hope that the Dune franchise doesn't also become those very enemies that we hate.
Having said that, that would be very Dune...
Dune has made over $1 Billion dollars from the two movies alone. They're absolutely going to make more than just 3 movies.
the studios and their investors may have caught on to the "likely superior to ANH, ESB, RotJ from Star Wars" that's been floating around.
Probably. But probably not with Villeneuve, unless that's he is going to do the rest of his life. Maybe we can get a shift from Hollywood movies with a focus on effects and combat. I really want to see more movies that differ from this trend. I have watched Blade Runner 2049, maybe 3-4 times now, it's the most I have seen any movie in recent years.

@@FabledGentleman I remember that interview and it was said in the context of Zimmer explaining his enthusiasm for the project. He began working on the next one asap just because he was so excited. He and Villeneuve seemed to be waiting for confirmation from the studio at the time
@@YodasPapa The way he explained it at the end of that segment, when Villeneuve put the script for Messiah on his desk, it was basically the same as a confirmation. The official talk and "behind the scenes talk" is not the same. It's pretty much certain that this movie was already decided after the first week in cinema, they already knew it then.

God Emperor could definitely be some kind of trippy mini series on HBO. 10 or 8 episodes depending on episode length. Also with an hbo budget, each episode would be like a mini movie
God Emperor is a SERIOUSLY messed up story.
@themasterjinn the people arent ready, which is EXACTLY why it needs to be seen by many millions in the highest quality earth has to offer
@@pacotaco1246 people left Dune part II thinking Paul was a hero
We DESPERATELY need an adaptation of God Emperor
@@matheussanthiago9685 agreed
HBO gets some stuff right and then totally ruined other stuff... Like many companies, they seem to be on a woke bandwagon. Even though audiences hate it.
the biggest challenge for making a children of dune tv series is locking down actors like anya taylor joy, rebecca ferguson, josh brolin, etc. they’re going to be super expensive and i just don’t think hbo would spent all that money unless it was on a movie. i can see god emperor and on being television maybe even animated
Budget really isn't an issue for HBO. "House of the Dragon" reported to have a budget that averaged $20 million per episode. They have the funds to pull off a Dune TV series. Also, the actors seem to really enjoy working with this franchise.
@@chaost4544brother, Brolin Ferguson and Taylor Joy cost 20mil *EACH*, especially in expanded tv roles. They absolutely have to recast unless they strike a deal.
I kind of can’t imagine Dune Part Four (based on Children) not happening. There are threads lingering at the end of Messiah that the third book closes out (Alia, Paul’s ultimate fate, House Corrino’s plots, etc); it’s the true end of that phase of the Dune universe. After that, I agree that if the later books were to be adapted a TV series would be best.
the original old Dune movie had both of the current 1 & 2 “chapters” in it’s film.
So technically there could be a part 4 if the director decides to split Dune:Messiah into two parts.
They might be able to get away with latter books more racy content on tv than they would trying to make a blockbuster film. Game of Thrones style
@@1traphouse true but I doubt it, Messiah isn’t nearly long enough to warrant that imo
Each Dune sequel naturally leads right into the next book in my opinion. Apart from Dune 1 which could’ve kindof feel standalone if it was only a 1 book series, dune 2-6 end in ways where it clearly is teasing the next story.
@1traphouse messiahs book length is about a third of Dunes, theyd have to add a lot of scenes during Pauls Jihad to stretch it into 2 movies. They could Definitely do Children of Dune in 2 films tho. Its just up to whoever is making it
I can't wait to see emperor Paul Muad'Dib's throne room on the IMAX screen

The aliens in Arrival were called Heptapods and they had 7 legs.
For the books after dune messiah I think Guillermo Del Toro should take it on in tv show format. I know he would delve deep into the weird aspects of how humans have evolved which is something I think Denis is hesitant to do.
I would rather another auteur like Yorgos Lanthimos

My interest and appreciation for the work of Denis Villeneuve was the reason for me to finally read the books and discover what they are really about. None of my friends ever pointed out how they are a deconstruction of the "chosen one" trope. I got tired of that trope some time ago. So I am really enjoying reading a story with a different approach. And I am really looking forward to the adaption of Dune Messiah. Great news.
Hoping that Denis Villeneuve makes cinematic Dune his life's work. He's just so damn good at it, and the cast is amazing.

I'm really excited for this, and I trust Villeneuve and Spaiths intrinsically at this point... but this will be one impressive screenplay to make this - specific - novel into a compelling movie. It is a _monumental_ task.
It succeeds, it is a lock for best Adapted Screenplay for that year.
Yes, I agree. It’s going to be a monumental task. If anybody can do it though, this team can make it work.
They failed with the second movie, what makes you think this will work?
@Mulgerehircum Easily. Chani will be the leader of resistance, and Alia will take the golden path. Solved it! 😂😂 or, or...that baby of Feyd...that baby will be resistance and Chani will take Golden path. At this point, who cares. (I love all Denis' movies, and when I heard about the casting before Dune 1, I was so hyped! Now...whatever...it will be a nice spectacle and that's it.)
@@mapletree3434 Visually it's spectacular, can't argue there, but they failed the story in my opinion
@@Mulgerehircum Agrred! I was sarcastic. The story is cornered and the characters turned upside down. So, the spectacle is all there is.
Cool poster, Quinn!
Denis said he doesn't want to film in the desert anymore but he'd be happy to help with more films. I hope they take him up on that because I want him on script no matter what.
It occures to me that they've got a very interesting problem to solve here. They really do need a time skip to get the characters in place for Dune Messiah, especially since they compressed the timeline of the first book. Just having Alia be born and grow up requires a big time jump.
But the last film ended on a big of a cliff hanger, so to skip over the resolution of that would feel odd.
I'm sure DV has a plan, and I can't wait to see how he handles this.
There’s always old reliable flashbacks /non linear narrative that’s become popular. Which Villeneuve has played with before in other films
They’ll probably make Alia age rapidly from the water of life. Something like that.
it could start with a cryptic showing of the jihad similar to paul visions of the future on part 1. but in the end you cut to an older paul. to show the viewer he is not forseeing the future he is remembering. that could be a good way to introduce the time skip and play with how paul changed 🤔 but we need to wait to see what villanueve does
after reading the book i was wondering how can all the events happen under 9month, since Alia isnt born at the end of part 2, in the book its like 3 or 4 years.
Reading the books made the movie timeline a bit odd to me, wich i didnt really notice before reading the book but its a lot of ethings happening in under 9th, like becoming the leader of the fremon. Anyway, let me know what you think.
@@MrBazz420Completely agree. They can correct the time jump by placing Dune messiah 4 years later than it is in the books. I think making Messiah is why Anya Taylor Joy was cast, because her one scene could have easily come from Rebecca Ferguson speaking on behalf of Alia, like everywhere else in the movie.
Bless the Maker and his Water
Peter Dinklage as Bijaz, come on casting.
He’s the natural choice. My other one would be Barry Keoghan, yes he’s not a dwarf but come on, he needs to play a Tleilaxu. He’s weird, little and uncanny
Who you got for Scytale? I have Rami Malek, Jesse Plemons and Kyle McLachlan.
@@hvitekristesdod You're right Keoghan would be good too.
@@hvitekristesdod your suggestion of Barry Keoghen would be superb.
@@hvitekristesdodYes, I think Scytale will be those, possibly also Awkwafina.
Your intro music always makes me think of the final part of the film Koyaanisqatsi where all of the existential dread hits all at once. Actually a good fit for the themes of your channel.
DV has mentioned how parts of the source material are altered or removed during the adaptation process. I think a cool idea for a video would be to speculate on what changes, additions, or omissions a series adaptation of COD/GEOD would need in order to be palatable for general audiences.
Would love to see Quinn tackle this.
I wonder how a Facedancer would look like in a movie
Need in order to be palatable for general audiences? None whatsoever. That's simply an excuse to inject twisted ideology, same as the "modern audience" bs most companies use. The utterly unnecessary evisceration of Chani's character should clue book fans into this, though the normies and bots will sing it's praises...
@@Ki_Adi_MundiChani didn't have a ton of character to "eviscerate" in the first place to be fair. Confused on what "twisted ideology" there is in the Dune movies.
@@Ki_Adi_Mundi Oh, so you think 9-year-old child actors can handle the very adult dialogue and situations of Children of Dune? That's how old the Atreides twins are in that book. Alia is only 16 in Dune Messiah (even younger now that Villeneuve has screwed with the timeline so she isn't born at the correct time, nor has she killed the Baron, so that means her future development as a character won't be accurate).
The miniseries' decision to use older actors for the twins was for the best, as they're still young enough to be considered underage, but not too young to handle the material in a credible way.
That’s exciting. The story continues on
Love it !!!!! Going to see 2 this weekend for the second time
With how good they did with Part 1 and 2, I am VERY excited for this! I HOPE they keep up the great work.
I'm so overjoyed to see Denis succeeding with his vision of Dune. I love his sensibilities and respect for this story. Also, I love the limited series idea for the later books. More time in a 6-8 episode season to explore the weird and wonderful universe.
Didn't succeed with me a bit :D Had to rewatch the 1984 version halfway through the 2nd one, had a great time
I really hope they make children of dune and god emperor of dune into a movie as well. But this is exciting to hear they're making Messiah into a movie!
I think he will work on something different after Dune 3 because he said he was tired with it for now. My prediction is that he will work on a couple different projects then go back to Dune after a few years and adapt the last 4 movies.
Children of Dune and God Emperor might need to be multi parters each at the minimum
@@mrrandom1265 He is working on "Rendezvous with Rama".
Great news, good to hear it from you first Sir!
I always hit the like button for you Quinn.
Very happy about this. I am taking some friends to see part 2 tomorrow, they are really excited. I will also organize the official roleplaying game for my friends. They feel the hype, just like I did for the first film and reading the book before and afterwards!
Listening to Dune audiobook now. About halfway through.. good stuff
I think it would also be a great time for iron maiden to bring to tame a land back in their setlist...it has been 40 years since it was played and with that song being about dune and with the dune movies success it would be great to dig this song up and play it live again
Really like your idea of doing the other storys as a HBO show, I have been a bit worried that after Villeneuve has made his trilogy some other directors will take over and maybe they can do a good job but I would hate for the franchise to get ruined if later films aren't done as good as Denis Villeneuve's trilogy
For all you saying “more movies! Make it a tv series!” Do you not understand that making something limited and beautiful may be the best way to appreciate it?
Quality over quantity for sure
absolutely especially as the more of these films they make the more chance there is for the modern message to seep in and corrupt it with garbage scripts
No. The films already leave out so much of what makes Dune great and unique compared to other sci-fi.
When you try to fit 2 gallons of source material into a 12oz cup something is lost. While the Dune movies are an epic set of movies they omit so much that they lose some(or a lot) of the depth that made the books special in a way that has lasted more than half a century. More screen time with a well done and very expensive tv series could have preserved more of the magic of the books, because while the movies have a magic of their own, it is not the magic of the books.
yep, if it ends after messiah I'll personally be really happy
THE GOLDEN PATH

The is awesome news! Thank you Quinn, always informative and thought provoking.
Dude, that Children of Dune and onwards TV angle is pretty clever. It would help with reducing the investment risk of large scale hollywood production if interest or audience opinion begins to falter due to franchise fatigue (a lot of IP runs the risk). Or if fandom only responds positively to a Villeneuve Dune and no one elses. The Sisterhood show will also be a good way to test the waters in that cross section between Dune Messiah and whatever comes next.
This is good news. I wonder how a Dune 3 movie will be received. Many fans were dissatisfied with Messiah because they didn’t know Herbert’s premise and were surprised to find out that Paul wasn’t the hero. This included Herbert’s publisher.
People will walk out of the movie theater… and tell that Dune is voke and dog age the movie ticket!
😂
But yeah… it will be hard! Luckily Villeneuw has put tips about Pauls future, unlike they did in Star Wars for Anaking… or Games of thrones Daenerys…
My Grandmom who had only seen the Dune part 2 and had no knowledge of Dune could see that he was being set up as the bad guy in the next film.
I feel both the script and the actor did a good job differentiating between good Paul and bad Paul to help ease the audience into the next film.
@@haukionkannel You're telling me they put no hints into Star Wars that Anakin Skywalker would become Darth Vader?????????????? Are you SURE??????
But I do agree that the second movie telegraphed well that Paul is not the uncomplicated hero here. And it might just be that I'm older now and know much more about the source, but I think it did it much better than the tv series.
Most hints for that were in Clone wars animated film series. Not in movies…
I think that Star wars and Game of thrones did make same mistake in this matter
If Messiah carries on with the success of the previous movies, I can't imagine the film studio not wanting to adapt more of the books.
Be great to see multiple dune movies made , the trouble is having read many of the books I felt the quality of the material declined with each subsequent instalment. The first book was indeed the high water mark .

I started watching your channel after the first dune film was released. I read the book and wanted to hear other people's interpretations. You're hands down my go-to guy for Dune Lore, and I hope your channel flourishes as much as Dune's popularity has!
Quinn do you think Part Three will include aspects of Children of Dune? I wonder if Denis would want to conclude the trilogy with Paul walking in the desert alone to die or we will already see him preaching and see his death and the film could end with the birth of the twins. I just think that if he really wants to have Paul’s arc go full circle in the end, then it should end with his death (real death not desert exile) and the birth of his children.
Tbh I hope they backfill some stuff from the second half of Dune -- e.g. the guild.
I sure hope they make God Emperor of Dune. " Long live the fighters ". The band Iron Maiden has a Dune song called To Tame a Land.
I took my kids to the imax movie and a few days later we went to a beach on Sydney Harbour and my 7 yo boy grabbed a short bit of drift wood and declared it a thumper and dug it into the sand, he then grabbed two sticks and they were the grabbers. He declared he’s going to catch a sand worm! My 10 yo daughter then ran along, older, and she said she’s the worm, the younger one jumped on her back and she ran down the beach, he was full immersion!
Yes! I just read an article about this!
That's high quality journalism here, Quinn. You began the video immediately sharing the source of the news and presenting a timeline of the facts (Denis merely saying he wanted to do; then Legendary confirming it). In the era of bullshit fake news that's much appreciated.
I want all the weirdness; it’s one of the major elements of Dune that draws me in so much
Quinn ... definitely had a part in making Dune what it is today
Can Dune messiah be turned into a good movie that a wider audience can enjoy? Messiah doesn’t have that build up to an exciting climax that Dune has.
Messiah is mostly just secret plotting and philosophical discussion amongst the characters. Everything has gone wrong and Paul has kinda become the bad guy despite his best intentions.
There’s no final battle or any major action it’s just a lot personal drama for Paul and Chani and the other people he knows.
That might be good for book readers but how will a general audience experience it after how Dune part 2 ended.
Sure messiah is a shorter book which makes it easier to fit into one movie. But I dunno.
Dune messiah is more like soap opera than space opera.
Who can even say? That's the fun. To add action without taking away the impact of the slower moments, we may see more of the Fremen's journey, like their adaptation to naval warfare or the atrocities.
There's the stoneburner scene, and Paul walking around with no eyes flying the ornithopter like a boss.
The final fight with Scytale when Paul uses Leto II as his eyes.
Alia overdosing on spice and getting her stomach pumped.
Alia practicing with her knife in the nude. There's enough there to make some interesting scenes besides the talking scenes.
So excited for this especially considering how the change in tone will be handled on screen

It would be great if Denis took in an "apprentice" who shadows him throughout the production of Dune Messiah, then go on to become the next director to create Children of Dune and God Emperor of Dune. And then the next "apprentice" does the same shadowing during production, and creates Heretics of Dune and Chapterhouse: Dune. This should ensure some kind of continuity and consistency while allowing each movie to have a bit of freshness in style and ideas to make them relevant and exciting.

NO.
THERE MUST NOT BE *ANY* ADAPTATION BEYOND GOD-EMPEROR.
Such a thing is a bad idea on all levels and if the Star Wars Sequels have shown us thing. It's that such continuations will *always* suck.
Only if he cares about the story the later books are telling. It's one thing to tell a story about being weary of heroes and deconstructing the chosen one trope and commenting on religious fundamentalism and religious wars. It's another thing to want to tell a story about how humans need to become invisible to prescience to escape extinction via hunting robots. These two things are not better or worse, but the same creator isn't necessarily inspired to tell them. Even if, given the current state of "AI" and "AI-art", there could be a fascinating topical story in there.
