The front fascia of this new Canyon looks a lot like the 4th Gen Frontier. Copy cat, perhaps? Sunroof/Moonroofs on pickups is the dumbest idea, ever! It adds more unnecessary weight and takes away from your truck's payload/towing numbers. We already know that trucks have the adjustable height of tailgates, Tommy.
Why no extended cab?
You briefly showed the rear suspension. On the Colorado they made a big deal about mounting the shocks out board from the leaf springs. But here on the canyon they seem to be in the older inboard location. Any reason for this?

I dig it. Between the new Colorado and now the Canyon, General Motors has my regained my attention. I hate the lights being in the infotainment screen. Even if it's on the front page I think that's a mistake. I find it strange with all the advancements in safety we've had, that manufacturers insist on moving basic controls away from physical switches and dials. It's a step backwards in safety just for the sake of saving a few cents per vehicle and passing it off as a "luxury" feature.
Hater
Spot on my guy. Sometimes the “old” way is the best way. Glad to see they provide physical buttons for climate control and other things. Some manufacturers aren’t even doing that at this point.
Why? You NEVER touch the headlights, they are automatic, plus these new trucks have the Intelibeam headlights that switch from Lo to Hi automatically based on if there is someone in front of you, so you literally NEVER have to touch them, why clutter the dash more?
Also not a fan of the lights being in the screen. Something’s don’t need to be changed. But you don’t really need to touch the lights (except fogs) since GM trucks always default to auto headlights. So I guess I get their thought process. Still not a huge fan.
@@BGBATKA unless you like using your fogs. Which also don’t work if intelibeam is on. Unless they have changed that now. On my 19 Sierra intelibeam can’t be turned on if fogs are on. You’d think it would be smart enough to turn the fogs off if the auto highs come on the same way manually putting them on would do. Granted I usually end up not even using intelibeam and keeping it off. Never fails to not turn off occasionally when it should and blinds someone.
This new canyon looks to be an awesome truck with lots of potential. even the base models are nice, hopefully it is reliable long term. now lets just hope the dealerships come back down to earth soon, right now their greedy mark ups on trucks are absurd.
They got so much stuff right with this truck. I dig the look. I might be in the minority here, but I'm a little sad the 6 foot bed option is no longer available, and I'm not keen on the lighting controls being done via the infotainment system. Looking forward to seeing one of these in person.
Totally agree, the Colorado is the same, but you can equip one for a lot less. These aren't meant to be work trucks.
I had a GM Truck and after 5 years of driving it the engine ate itself. I brought it in to a dealership and they contacted GM and since it was about 1000 miles out of warranty they did not do a thing for me. Been buying Tacoma's since and have been happy ever since.
This had got to be one of the best redesigns and desperately needed. They've really done an awesome job with this truck.
The Colorado looks great too
@@NickyNicest it really does, yeah. The whole lineup has been a significant upgrade.
yes! for those mid side plataforms.. but if I've to be honest... Caddys and Yokon with those fronts... just don't get that lucky
Love the stance of the truck and the engine choice. Thrilled that even the basic 4x4 models will have the same stance and same powertrain. Can't wait to see some of the more basic trim models.
Yep, show us the elevation!
Base truck will be the sweet spot for me. Especially because it will have the high output engine. Still will be $45k at least if you get 4x4.
I bought my 2016 base 4x4 canyon for 25k brand new. 7k off sticker. The 17s had just hit the lot so I got a deal for once. Best vehicle I've ever owned too.
I’m a Chevy Silverado guy. And she’s a beauty ❤️. But the small GMs are no Taco Trucks.
Tacos rule the small truck market
Brand loyalty kills innovation! Glad to finally see some competition in the midsize truck market.
Looks like a very nice truck. Huge improvement over the previous GM small trucks.
I would never buy a small truck, but I'm glad the market has expanded, and the buyers have more options now. Competition is always better for everyone, and gotta give the Tacoma cred for waking every manufacturer up.

Lol Tacoma's has and will always be the king of mid-size trucks!!
Woah…so all light controls are through the infotainment unit? That is a safety hazard IMO. And an expensive fix whether the light controls, wiring, or infotainment go bad.
That’s my most hated thing ever seriously. Hate doing basic stuff through a screen. One thing I love about my 4runner…all hard buttons and big old knobs. The only thing I use the screen for is music and sometimes gps but even that I barely use the gps on the 4Runner cause the phone waze gps is better. I have a 2018 with the older infotainment and smaller screen but I love how simple it is and don’t need to fidget with the screen outside of music and Bluetooth.
Yep. Wait until the infotainment system dies - which is a common problem in GM vehicles - and you can't drive at night.
@@maverick_trail they are automatic headlight dillweed, in the extremely rare scenario your infotainment system went out I guess you would be able to turn on your fog lamps. It is not a common issue for the infotainment system to go out that is 100% wrong lol
Our silverado's infotainment screen went out at 2 years old. Yeah I see this going great
@@chadshows187 cool it’s still not a common issue. I had 2008 Silverado with 240k and a current 18 with 70k with zero infotainment issues 🤷
Wow, what a breath of fresh air! Im far from being a GM fan but they knocked this design out of the park. Midsize trucks always seem way over the top or like an accountant squeezed every penny out making them just plain boring. This has a muscular yet refined appearance both inside and out. GM has never been on my list but I will definitely look into this generation much much closer.
GM products are absolute garbage and have been for 30 or more years.... 2022 trucks are junk and always at the dealership
you must like 4 big doors on a truck. Not me, give me a bigger bed. GM missed the mark on this one by only offering 4 big doors trim. It is a smaller truck, why does it need 4 doors? Let mom buy a minivan if she needs to haul the rugrats around.
@@Boobtube. I daily a Mega Cab so I definitely like 4 door trucks. I agree they need additional cab and bed lengths. My comment was concerning the overall design. I feel like companies are limiting cab/bed lengths to protect full size sales.
@@redtitan29 no, this 4 door crap all comes from something called "CAFE".. so again, the Govt. gets in our lives and makes it worse.
@@redtitan29 yup. Chances are tho, if your looking for bed space, just buy a base model full size with an 8 ft bed. Mid-size trucks aren’t made for doing hard work, they’re made for daily driving with a usable bed and towing. The prices for a base full size with 8ft bed is comparable to a moderately spec’d out mid-size. Keep in mind tho, I’m the black sheep of the truck world. A Ridgeline.
I’m a Tacoma fanboy (self-declared), own a 2nd Gen, and think this Canyon has a strong chance of being a great truck … it’ll be on my list of trucks once my Tacoma is ready to hit pasture in about 20 years.
You may have a longer wait. I'm still driving my '85 Toyota. This truck has made my short list as a replacement. My only knock is the removal of a headlight switch. I have many situations where I want to turn off my lights and going through the dash display looks like a PITA.
Lol it won't be because none of these will be on the road by then.
Haha.... so, you love Toyota and have had a great experience with your Tacoma..... and are willing to set aside a known positive experience for a GM POS...... I question the plethora of 'positive' reviews here.....
@@tgilldesign I mean he did say "in about 20 years." This is modern GM we're talking about, so most of these trucks will have long since been relegated to the crusher by that point.
@@tgilldesign Trucks aren’t worthy of blind dedication. The companies are in competition for the consumer’s commitment. I love my Tacoma, but in stock form, it’s useless for anything that requires a truck. If GM came out with a platform that fixed the Tacoma’s substantial design flaws, I could certainly be interested. So your comment is not only useless, it demonstrates a close-minded and misguided mindset that is almost certainly holding you back.
I have not been a huge chevy or gmc fan in the past but in terms of engineering and innovation they are killing it compared to other brands. The fact that they are getting 300hp and 400ftlbs out of this v4 and achieving good gas mileage is stellar
ahh yes, A V4 🤣
Hahahaha.... you gotta be a GM plant.
Doesn't matter how much horsepower and torque they get out of their engines when their engines, transmissions, transfer cases, and rear ends all blow up way too early low miles. My 23 year old 2000 Toyota Tacoma 4 cylinder automatic pickup is still running strong with over 224,000 miles on it. That Chevy I bet don't last that long without major repairs done to it. No wonder they're well known as Garage Man Companions!
@@garyphillips6270 I had a 2005 GMC Canyon I bought new out off the lot and that thing almost caught fire three times due to electrical issues where grounds where heating up and burning through wiring harnesses. Oil leak that ended up causing the entire engine to be pulled out to fix it, just horrendous vehicle. So that ended my relationship with GM products. Ended up with various Subarus over the years, but I just picked up a 2023 Tacoma TRD Off-Road with the 6 speed Manual and love it so far. The lack of Manual Transmission is also a no go for me on the GMC.
The GM engine designer said that the new 2.7 is basically diesel engine that runs on gasoline. Very stout.
I have a 2021 Frontier, and I will say this blows away the Frontier 10000%. Really nice
I hate the politician style answers. “Why no more diesel?” “We feel like this engine was the best fit for the design of the current truck and it was a good fit because we felt like it was a good fit.”
My goodness just say no one buys the diesel or we don’t make enough money on it or whatever the REAL REASON is!!
I love the power train and packaging of the new Canyon/Colorado - but I need a six foot bed, preferably 78" versus 75".
I agree.
Love this truck, unfortunately the bed length is a deal breaker for me.
I needs a longer box GM!
The truck looks cool, but I need a longer bed 1000x more than I need 4 doors. I'd also trade a few thousand dollars for two or 4 more cylinders. Turdbo's are crap in small passenger cars. Imagine how fast they will expire in a 5200 pound truck.
@@TJ-oi5qe Exactly ! I'm with you on this. GM has forgot what trucks are for. Give us 2 doors, or at least a access cab with smaller doors in rear and a 6.5 foot bed at least.
@@Acorn0005 Agreed ! Come on GM, Wake Up ! *Not everyone wants or needs 4 big doors. Give us more bed space*

Talk about a massive visual improvement over the previous generation inside and out. Interested to see how they hold up. Love that the automakers are taking the midsize and small trucks seriously again.
1st have to get them on the lots. Way they are going, 2024 Tacoma will be out and back in #1 mid size truck slit forever!
Haven’t been a GM fan since 90s. But this is awesome. I think it is the best looking truck on the market.
Not sure about all these comments about Colorados be junk, unreliable, breaking down.
I've owned 3. 1st generation 4 banger 4x4 that went 173K with very few problems. Traded it for a 2016 V6 4wd Z71 that I beat the snot out of. Went on many, many off roading weekends. NEVER had a drive train issue in 133K miles. Traded that in for a 2021 4wd V6 Z71. I go off roading with it, just turned 24ish K zero problems so far.
Yeah totally. I get that on the whole it may not be as statistically reliable as a Tacoma, but for a given owner I doubt there’d really be much in it between the two. Modern vehicles will all be very similar despite what internet warriors will tell you about their brands reliability ranking or whatever. I think this new truck will be great for the most part. And I say this as a former Tacoma owner that loved that truck too.
Got a first gen with only 170k miles. Gets 12.5 mpg which is pathetic. Chevy admits it's their fault but refuses to replace the engine. Dash lights flicker on and off sometimes. When I use the m turn signal it glitches and makes the other side sputter on and off too. Now it doesn't even make the sound for it. I've had 2 blower motor resistor connectors burn out already because Chevy doesn't understand anything electrical and how thick metal should be to conduct that much power. Ended up hardwiring bypassing the connector. 12v outlet also burned out and the fuse never even tripped. They're supposedly rated for 20 amps and it burned with only 14 amps. The frame cracked and separated almost completely where it holds the lower control arm. These are all very common issues too and not just on my truck.
GM products are garbage dude
@@andrewk8636 What did Chevy admit to? Have you owned it since new and experienced that issue while still under warranty?
@@ALMX5DP doesn't matter if I owned it since new or not. Warranty does not matter either. Chevy made an engine that fails prematurely and they admit to that. The valve guides wore out and took out the valve seats too. Needs a whole head now. Chevy sent out a service bulletin and extended warranty to 7 years which does not fix that because problems might take longer to show or owners might not know there is a problem. "Don not take your vehicle to the dealer unless you believe your vehicle has the condition described above. They were hoping less people would come for the fix. They know every single engine is trash but won't replace any of them. Warrantee is not a factor here. The notice said a Vin range of trucks has been affected and mine is in that range. It's unreliable not because of any owner but because Chevy is stupid
Everytime I see a new "midsized" truck come out. I realize how much I missed my 2000 Tacoma and would rather buy a new one of those. I would even pay more than the $21k when I purchased it
Love my '22 Tacoma, but I like seeing strong competition. GM's interior game is finally surpassing other makers. The price is going to be a shocker though. I bet that truck in the video is $55k. Which is just bonkers for a mid-size truck
There’s Tacoma TRD Pros at that price point
@@WoodrowWoods2007 but they consistently hold their value.
@@Sheepleton that was before there was a good competitor. Now that this truck is out i bet it hits the resale value of a bunch of trucks. Old tacos were worth so much because they will still the best it the segment even used. Not anymore.
Taco will continue to hold its value, due to its reliability.
Tf you talking about. Tacoma is around that price too
This is my new favorite mid size truck!! Interior is looking fire and the outside is this modern aggressive look that rocks. Love it!!
I'm a Toyota guy and I gotta say this Canyon looks very nice!
Still liking my 2019 Ranger but Chevy and GMC did a really good job on this truck. These trucks are a win for the midsize segment.
I love my 2021 Ranger, but this thing is BEAUTIFUL.
It’s the exact same design and dimensions the Tacoma has had for years…. Minus the reliability. Lol. Complete rip off. Clever ploy though to capture domestic vehicle buyers.
Love this and the Chevy. The side profile is awesome. I'd get the AT4 or the Trailboss.
The projected pricing for it is terrifying though. The AT4x putting up last gen Raptor numbers. May displace the Gladiator as most expensive mid size.
I'm in a 2011 Tacoma 2wd right now. This looks like a very nice truck and I'm considering one next year. I love the redesign and the interior. Hopefully it's reliable enough to go 10 years, 180k miles. That's my plan. Well done.
Why???? Gm doesn’t have a good track record for reliability!!!!
Stay with the Toyota, it will outlast any GM product!
Definitely a Toyota guy but this has me thinking! Good job GMC
No Toyota guy worth their salt would actually switch to a less reliable domestic knock off. The next Tacoma power plant will eclipse this.

The design of this truck is amazing inside and out. I only wish they had a little bit more rear legroom 👍
Agree, plus wish the rear sliding window was power operated. Glad they added rear A/C vents. Overall, huge leap forward on the interior.
I'm not a fan of the front end
NO, bring back the access cab, if you want more legroom just get a damn Sierra, MIDsize trucks need to get smaller, not bigger.
Nick the "Chief Engineer" should be ashamed. Only one bed and cab configuration is available?? That's ridiculous.
Nice way to drive away potential customers Nick.
👎🏽
Stretching the wheelbase and widening the track width helps game the CAFE formula for fuel efficiency. Easier than making an actually small, fuel efficient truck like Ford did with the Maverick or rumored Ranger hybrid (although it too got wider/longer).
I actually really like this truck, by far the best looking midsize truck out right now, just my opinion. Interior is leaps and bounds nicer than previous years. Step up the reliability and this thing will sell like crazy
Looks are both everything
Last time I checked the Canyon was 2nd in reliability for mid size trucks. I wonder how the smaller turbo engine is going to hold up to the test of time
2022 Tacoma is still the king with that crawl control
Test drove one of these and really liked it , but at basically the same price, I went with the Tacoma. No regrets. Canyons are nice though. Love that they fixed the body lines finally
Overall, very nice. For me, the bed is too short, and I expect the price will be too high. I bought a brand new GMC Sierra in 2018, but It seems I can’t afford new pickups any more. I got $12k off MSRP in 2018, but those deals are long gone.
The only potential upside is that your truck is likely worth close to what you paid for it in today’s used market, possibly more.
I hear ya, bought a new Z71 colorado in 2018 with the duramax for 42k. Price of the newer vehicles is crazy though.
Looks awesome, and I bet it will fly with that powertrain! I just wish there was a little more legroom. I'm almost 6'1" but would actually prefer a midsize truck. However with a family it just dosen't fit for me. I don't want to have to move my seat every time someone has to sit behind me. My biggest gripe woukd be the deletion of the 6 foot bed. Truck looks great though GM!
As the owner of a 2021 Canyon with replacement insurance, I'm now officially _slightly_ less mortified at the possibility of my truck being written off if I were in a crash, with this being the likely replacement should that occur. I'd miss the physical radio controls, headlight knob, fan speed knob, mechanical e-brake, bolsters on the wheel, incandescent bulbs that don't cost a fortune to replace, and actual key, but I have to say they've done a nice job on this. The front facia, eeeehhhh I'm getting used to it, but the rest is beautiful. It would be getting hood struts though- what a cheap-ass move sticking a prop rod on it. The motor concerns me though. I've heard good things so far, but when it's 7, 10, 12 years old, it would be nice to be able to wrench on it a little when needed, and I'm not convinced that would be as easy on this.
it wont be easy and it wont be cheap. Believe me. And it will fail on you in 7-10 years. that v6 is great for the first part, but it has design issues and manufacturing issues that will make it blow apart (mine did and ive seen a good ammount of those engines torned appart by failures). They run great, they are powerfull, responsive and very capable, but they are like puting a 5.7 hemi or a 5.3 vortec/LS in a 3/4 ton HD truck to pull 15k pounds of trailer. it will do it, but it will break very fast.
@@69sound81 It's not a V6. It's an I4 turbo.
The base Nissan Frontier S has most of those features which is why I went with that truck and I love it
That interior was much needed. I’d now consider one of these as my next vehicle.
I love my 2020 SLT. The 3.6 has been a great engine for me. With the ATS-V having a twin 3.6 im not understanding why they haven't added a turbo to the 3.6 for the trucks. I love the new look but im not so convinced with the 2.7T.
Dude this looks dope. I'm excited to see what the new taco and ranger models will be like in the American market. Like man here, I'm not too brand loyal so may the best truck win my money!

Finally a GM truck that I'd be interested in. Both the interior and exterior design are great with some smart design features.
Awesome looking new truck and they found the perfect home for that 2.7 motor. Obviously the performance and reliability verdict is out, but GM gets points for this one from a first look perspective. But a longer bed option would be nice.
So he says the 2.7 exceeds the torque of the 2.8 diesel. But is it going to avg 30 mpg hwy like my '16 diesel did? I doubt it.
Diesel gets ~30% better mpg so as long as gas is ~30% cheaper than diesel, it works out the same.
I can get 27mpg in my Silverado crew cab 2.7 HO on a 100mi road trip. A full size pickup. The little twins should get even more MPG than that.
Would really like a 6' box with an extended cab.
Yes, I think GM is really limiting their customers not offering an extended cab. Just one of the reasons I won't get rid of my extended cab with a V8. Not everyone needs a second row of seating and those who need to do more hauling are basically S.O.L. Same with the engine offerings, there should be more options. Really tired of the limited options they offer, here are 8 colors to choose from but you can only have 1 interior (black) and a cheap one at that. Now we will give you 14 cupholders for 4 passengers because we have room for them (not all the same size though). Get a damn cooler for the truck bed, I don't need a lot of cupholders as a selling point. Finally we get the sunroof option back until they say we didn't sell enough of that option so we are discontinuing it. They offer us what they want to sell us, not realizing or caring that 80-90% of people don't need off-road capabilities and wont use the truck bed maybe 5 times or less in 10 years. Aftermarket can give you all these things, but you changed the vehicle so we no longer will honor the warranty. It's no longer about customers just a money grab. I know I went on a rant.
@@ThrowmeAFrigginbone Yep, I want a 6' bed two door with about eight inches behind the seats not this oversized, overpriced turbo planet burner. How can they reconcile this type of vehicle while simultaneously green masquerading with future electrics?

I wonder how long that 4 cylinder is going to last with the turbo cooking the oil,, gm doesn't have a great track record for reliability of small engines 👍
It'd be nice to see a Sierra/Silverado review with the 2.7L HO introduced in the 2022. Just bought Silverado 1500 WT with that engine, but had to go off older professional reviews, or dealer/user review which are much more subjective.
Looks dope, already is upgraded to the basics when you want that truck lifestyle with the lifts and widebody stance.
This truck looks great. Nearly identical to the counterpart Chevy Colorado, but personally I like this front end even more. Just gotta add the side rail option. Originally ordered a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, but canceled it as too many reports of transmission problems, even a couple friends are having it too on theirs. Can't wait until I can order it. Transfer case refuses to work properly and rumbles badly, key module fails often. And it has been looked after really good, oil change every 5000 km with only sinthetic oil, every little noise has been taken care of inmediately, suspension has been checked on every single oil change as well as diferentials, when the guarantee expired it recieved every single maintenance possible to avoid any future problems (transfer, diffs, engine, transmission, electronics, sensors, cables...). They just can't survive a life working (off-roading, towing 7k pound trailers, hawling 1k pounds on the bed all of them consistently).
It's much better looking than the outgoing model, for sure. If they had released this in 2021, I may have considered it more than I did the 2021 AT4. As long as the engine proves itself, they may have a decent mid-sizer here. Wasn't a huge fan of the last-gen models, although the NA 3.6L wasn't a bad engine. I get why they went with the turbo, but I don't have great faith in GM's turbo systems ... having spent three winters with a turbo Equinox and not making it through a single one without it icing up and throwing itself into limp mode. (First winter it combined that with a sticking waste gate and blew the front AND rear crank seals out of the engine. Good times.)
Nice, is much better than the Taco. But I'm not so glad about moving controls to the infotainment system. I LIKE TACTILE CONTROLS. And I did worry about the 4 banger. It seems VERY capable on paper, those are HUGE numbers, but wouldn't that mean this engine would have a home in many other GM cars? Seem pretty fitting for a mid-level Camaro, or even some SS version of an Impala, and such. Also, one thing I've always noticed about older 4 cyls, is after a few years they all just sound... tinny and whiny. 6 cyls always seem to run more smoothly, might just be my perception, but even if I didn't know the vehicle had a 4 cyl in it, I can hear that its a 4 cyl. But other than that, I LOVE this truck.
The Canyon looks bad ass! It is unfortunate that it has got less room for passengers. A bit disappointing about not having the 6'2" bed option.
Yep. It’s a no sale for me. I use my truck for work and need a 6’ bed.
Think I like the GMC variant better than the ZR2.
I wish they would release what kind of Fuel mileage it gets. It looks great I can't wait till you guys get your hands on one and run it through the gauntlet and real world mpg numbers. It would be nice if you could select one of the 3 tunes available for the 2.7 for what you currently need at the time.
Probably not much of a difference than the full size truck that this engine is also in. Probably around 19.
@@jamesm568 Probably similar to the outgoing v6. No way they designed this thing to be less fuel efficient than the outgoing model. That said, the AT4 and AT4X probably will be a little less than if you got a Denali with road bias tires.
I'm guessing that it's still going through epa testing. Should be at least as good as the outgoing v6.
Love the corporate buzz words one fantastic powertrain, its fantastic for towing, awesome for off roading and really good for everyday driving and fuel economy. I was waiting for Zuck to rear his ugly head with his soundbite... at Facebook We Believe, like us on Facebook... I'm guessing poor gas mileage ... instead dazzle them with the bedazzler... the Drama Queen concept
Who cares if the outgoing engine gets 1 or 2 more MPG when it only lasts 60K miles? There's a reason nobody buys a full-size with this grenade in it.
Ford F150: "Look at these children fighting over such a small thing. Cute!"
Even if you love tacos you can’t say that this thing isn’t sick
On paper, and by looks & features, the new Colorado & Canyon are awesome. The only thing keeping me from trading in my 21 Tacoma is GM’s spotty QRD (quality, reliability, durability) as Toyota engineers call it. I want a truck that is just broken in at 100k, not broken when the warranty is up.
I’d like to see how a new Z71 holds up after 100k real world miles. Plus we’ll see what Consumer Reports says during the next year or 2. I think they had the GM twins last in reliability the past few years.
It won’t. I’m in disbelief they used that engine after all of the problems it’s had in the Silverado/Sierra. But that’s GM for ya
Are you close to 100K in your '21 Taco? The durability concern is only a factor if you actually keep trucks to 150K + miles. Otherwise it's a resale issue and you already paid the Taco premium to off-set the good resale value, just my opinion.
Keep the Toyota and run it. It's not even broken in at 100,000 miles. I've got a 2000 Tacoma with 224,000 plus miles that still runs great. Frame is still solid, body a little rough from NYS salt exposure all winter in Western NYS. I'm going to drive it until the frame won't pass inspection!
Consumer Report said my Cadillac was trash and it has never been in the shop since I bought it in 2013. Same negative reviews on my 2019 GM truck and it has been a decent Truck for me.
Fantastic new truck! Perfectly sized for most folks. Great review!
This no headlight switch stuff is insane. I hope they change that ASAP before production.
Why? When do you need to actually turn on headlights? Everything is automatic
@@BGBATKA When the screen craps out you still have a switch. My 19 colorado screen when blank. Had to disconnect the battery to reset.
Let go back to the 1990 old man. This the new era 😜😜
My Tacoma has no off switch for the lights. Auto, or on manually only. I think Toyota did this to prevent people from driving at night with no tail lights.
@@gs98999 what year is your's in my 17 it has off, auto, drl and on
I owned the First Generation 2004 GMC Canyon, and I have to say that they have made a lot of great improvements in this 2023 model which makes this a World Class Mid-sized Truck. It’s too bad that they don’t have a 6’ bed option. Also, I still like having a regular headlight switch too!
I think the longer beds will appear in 2025.
Good review BUT it is April 1st 23 and they have not arrived at Dealers lot yet.
First GM product I would consider buying a long time! As always in my opinion GMC looks better than the Chevy counterpart although that looks good too. Finally GM nice work 👍
I think the Chevy Colorado Trail Boss looks better and I am certainly not a fan of the interior color accents. Maybe it will look better in something that is not white. I love white on luxury cars btw and it looks great on my M3.
I would agree on both accounts! First GM product I’d buy.
Same here. Only negative is the short bed. Not sure why people are crying about the 2.7 turbo replacing the V6. It's going to be a torque monster even in the mid-level tune.
But you are forced to buy the $1500 OnStar subscription with the GMC. I don't think you have to buy that on Chevys yet.
It is interesting all GMC's get the HO motor. Chevy's will get Plus motor in mid-trims. I don't think I heard towing numbers on ATX4.
design is one thing (this is beautiful), it being as durable, reliable, and lasting as long as the tacoma is another. Ill stick with the Japanese. :)
I'll buy american no Corona burner for me.
Wow, I actually really like it. I almost purchased a 2022 Canyon Denali 2 months ago but decided to wait because the interior just felt very dated. Where they just updated the interior on the Silverado and Sierra 1500s I figured a refresh for the rest of the trucks was coming soon. The 2022 was nice and plush, had heated and cooled seats and steering wheel, but no moonroof, dated infotainment system, some of the finishes felt cheap. If the new AT4 like the one in this video comes in at a similar price to the Denali I almost bought I might just have to bring one home. Good job Gm, for a change you are not driving me away to look at other brands. For a while GM has been getting left in the dust on quality, design, and new ideas. This might just ensure I end up back in a GM product. Now if Toyota would finally make a new Tacoma.... That would be the one that might sway me.
The new Tacomas are coming in 2024 if you’re willing to wait.
@@fredg5381 Yes I see that as well. It should be pretty good. I get a new one every few years so if I buy a new Canyon AT4 or Denali when they release (I'll likely go pre-order one) I'll be able to trade it in a year or two after the Tacoma releases if I want to go that route. I travel a lot for work so I put like 30K-40K miles a year on my work vehicle so I usually only keep them 3 years before I'm trading in for a new one.
This is the new best in class.
The new design is amazing. Dont understand why they wouldnt allow a bigger bed, its really the only dealbreaker for my next truck
I guess they didn’t want this stealing Silverado/sierra sales. I know it doesn’t make much sense but gm is super cautious.
Yea I have current colorado but need 6 foot bed, the 5 footer is a deal breaker for me too!
It needs a 6 foot bed!
Looking good, but I still prefer the Colorado. Well done again GM, setting the bar very high for the tailgaters.
That is a good looking truck. Its making me consider trading in my Tacoma regardless of all the modifications I have done to it.
Foolish
Good looking truck !!
GM’s 4-WD systems in their trucks have been performing superbly … I’m sure this truck will not disappoint, except for those that insist on a diesel …
Nick has so many perspectives you would think he's in another dimension maybe with Carl Jung
Good job Nick! Gerry Kranker would be proud!
Never been a GM guy, but this and the Colorado have me reconsidering. Great looking inside and out with functional design elements.
Ford needs to take note on how to release a vehicle from GM. The new Ranger was announced in February and there is still no real info on it in the states. GM dropped this a week ago, already has press on it, and the ability to pre-order on their site. Get with it Ford!
It's cause the Ranger that was released isn't even the one we're getting. That's the international Ranger, not the US one- hence no stateside info. So technically for us, Ford hasn't announced or released anything. Maybe for us the new Ranger won't even be a 2023 MY, who knows?
Absolutely well done, GMC!
Wow..they did it! Honestly, why would anyone who ever ventures off road want any other mid-sizer? GMC just dropped the mic. This is the one I will be purchasing next. Thanks Tommy!
I'll answer your question. Why?? Because some of us want a longer bed and a smaller cab. What a joke... only one configuration is available?? Ridiculous.
See ya GM.
Can you specify with "they did it" since they actually did a lot
@@axellness maybe they added front and rear lockers so you can finally go off road like the jeeps?
I have a 2021 Tacoma and I like the looks of this truck!
Looks soooo much like the Tacoma. I just bought a 2023 Tacoma, because I don’t believe that the turbo force will last as long as a naturally aspirated V6.
Love the looks, not sure I like things like the controls for headlights/fog lights only being available in the infotainment vs a button/knob but that’s a very minor gripe.
Very cool. Looks like a really high effort for GM here, probably in response to the Ranger. Now they need to do an SUV on this platform to compete with the Bronco....
There’s no arguing this is a great looking truck, People will argue that we see a Tacoma and a Tundra had a kid as far as looks. GM should’ve changed the name to Tacundra.
Unfortunately GM as a former loyal Customer, there is no way a GM product will ever be parked in my garage ever again.
3 GM vehicles in my life once they hit 60K miles started falling apart. No thanks
It's gonna look so good on the side of the road being loaded onto a flatbed as I pass it in my taco lmao
Finally a canyon that isn’t ugly!
This is the best looking midsize truck I've ever seen. Great job GM. Just wish there were more engine options... would love to see a V8 or diesel option
Yep now bust out over 50k for a mid size and youre set
This with a V8 is my dream, sad seeing V8s going extinct because of the EPA. Car makers shouldn’t be told what to do…
When one reaches a million miles and GM buys it back, then I'll think about buying one over a Tacoma. My 03 has over 400k and still runs and looks like new. No GM vehicle can do that.
I have to agree with you.
fuel prices are at an all time high, GM reacts by dropping the diesel... why does GM always make such insane decisions...
Because this will probably get comparable milage and gas is cheaper than diesel.
@@lloydchristmas8282 wrong, it gets nowhere near comparable mileage, HUGE difference (IRL MUCH bigger than on paper)
@@Mgoblagulkablong you could be 100% correct apps I can say is my buddy has the 2.7T crew cab Silverado and it averages 25mpg and it's a full size truck, this is smaller and lighter. I think it can do better!
Engineering decisions are made years in advance of an actual release. The engine choice was probably made when gas was $2 a gallons. lol
Because they will be bailed out when they inevitably fail again.
Finally GMC is putting things that the AT4 should've had from the beginning. Sun roof and I couldn't tell from the video but I'm hoping finally a power sliding rear window. Huge upgrade from the current generation.
Everything except the sliding rear window will be on the new ones. If you look at a pic of the 2022 vs 2023. The rear window stays the same.
I personally prefer the GMC brand a posed to Chevy, but to me, the new Colorado seems just that bit more appealing inside and out. Shame both only come with the crew cab 5 1/2 foot bed though..
I wish it was five and a half. I thought he said 5'2" long. I currently have a 6' bed and it just barely suits my needs as I haul stuff almost daily.
@@NorthPaddle yeah midsize short beds are 5’ ish. Full size 1500 “short beds” are 5.5’ ish and for ford and gm hd trucks the short bed is more like 6.75‘ while ram HD have a 6’4”. Long bed on a midsize is usually 6’, save for a few 7’ rangers and Comanches back in the day. Long bed on a half ton or hd is 8’, unless it’s a crew cab half ton, in which case 6.5’ (or 6’4” for ram 1500) is the longest option so it’s also sometimes called a “long bed” even though it’s the middle bed size. Should be “standard bed” but I digress
@@ridewithme3428 Yeah, I personally think that the ‘long bed’ configuration on the current gen at 6’16” is perfect for this size of truck. The short bed is just too small.
@@joelmarris I mean even if they did what ford did with the ranger and only offer it with a smaller cab I’m fine with that. Just kinda wild that there’s literally only one configuration
Man that is a good looking truck! But it kind of looks like it already ate a Tacoma 😁
Complete rip off of the Tacoma, which the full-size AT4 very cleverly already is also.
I like what Chevy/GMC are doing. This underscores the fact that Toyota should keep a V6 option in the Tacoma. There is a large chunk of the truck market that won't step down to a turbo-4 banger
GM has turned its back on the V6. If Toyota held the line, they'd reap massive rewards.
(Toyota has already decided they are going all 4-banger, and theirs won't be this potent, either.)😞
First the 5.7 now the v6. Rip Toyota
The new Tacoma is already DOA and we haven’t even seen it yet.
Let’s be real here. Toyota almost always screws up redesigns and always get schooled and thrown in the trash by rivals before going on sale.
We knew the tundra and sequoia would be catastrophic failures and guess what? They ARE
The Tacoma will suffer and eventually Toyota will have to kill their trucks and SUVs since they aren’t competitive
The 3.5 V6 is the Tacoma lacks torque. Don't know about you but 390 lb-ft (mainstream tune) in the GM trucks is going to feel so much stronger. The Ranger makes less power but pins you in the seat while accelerating moderately.
I trust a na v6, now yes it doesn’t make the most power or the best fuel economy, but it stills gets me from point A to point B. Like my first vehicle is a 04 ford ranger with 4.0 v6 4x4 auto and it has close to 160k miles on it, and still runs like a champ.
@@302Mustang13 The V6 Taco will be running like a top in 20 yrs. and 500,000 miles, the turbo 4 GM crap will be dead around 100,000 - 200,000❗
That interior is such an upgrade. GM did it w this one
I actually like it, from the design to the drivetrain... but their pricing and GMs corporate practices are too big of a turn off for me.
Love it, way out of my price range though! This is a luxury vehicle for sure! Basically a full size truck from the 90's. What are we thinking, $50K starting for the AT4?
yes and over $63k for the AT4x.
my first new house was 30K, back in middle 80's.
I love it, I was looking at the previous gen when I bought a yr ago. The previous gen lacked in many areas, they seemed to of addressed all of its short comings and more. I may end up selling my 2022 Honda Civic, will wait to see! Cheers Kirk
Bed width? Will if fit 48 inch plywood sheets?
89 95 Toyota pickup 4x4 is hard to beat . Canyon looks awesome
I can now not be embarrassed of the interior after 20 years
