  • London Routemasters and RTs were out in force on Route 38 from Victoria to Hackney from London Bus Museum as part of Heritage Open Days. The route which began in 1912 covers a number of well known London landmarks such as Piccadilly, Shaftsbury Avenue and the British Museum. So plenty of opportunities to hop on and off to shop or do some sightseeing.
It was just like the old days with a conductor and the first bus in the film RML2579 arrives at Bloomsbury where I boarded it to Hackney and then Clapton Pond where some buses can be seen arriving and departing. It was time for a trip on RT1 from 1939 to Canonbury where some buses can be seen on Essex Road. The action moves to Victoria Station after a trip on RM1005 and as you can imagine it was very busy before I then moved on to Piccadilly on board RM2208. After some more bus action I then boarded RML2579 and alighted at Finsbury Town Hall where some buses and bikes can be seen on Roseberry Avenue.
Fantastic summer weather and a good turnout and great buses to ride on all day in spite of the traffic and demonstrations causing some delays. I have captioned the buses which were in service but can you work out which two buses were not part of the Route 38 Heritage Running Day?
Thank you to the London Bus Museum and other operators for bringing their buses for us to enjoy once again bringing back memories for many and they made a fine sight alongside the regular service buses. If you enjoyed seeing them please leave a like or a comment. Check out the London Bus Museum website at
www.londonbusm... for details of future running days.
Next time I will be in Quorn for the Bus & Train Spectacular and I am hoping to be able to get to another event the following day. So look out for coverage in early October.

Last Saturday was a great day. I think I saw you on Saturday Graham. Brings back good memories of when I was a kid.

And I'm the person who tried to board it at Victoria just before the deadrun to the museum :\

Excellent video once again Mr S 👍👍👍 my favourite was the RT1 with the route number display on the roof dome. Gave it a different look to the other RT's...

Thanks Craig. I managed a trip on RT1 which I enjoyed. I like the RTs with the number display. There are a few around including RT8 with Ensignbus.

Not sure if they do these heritage days often but it should be every summer like every Saturday alternating the bus route week in week out for central London

That would be nice but not sure if TFL would allow it. London Bus Museum have just announced two running days for 2024. Saturday 24th March Route 62 and 145 and Sunday 9th June Route 406. It's best to keep an eye on The Classic British Buses Website diary for running days like Route 227 Sunday 17th December 2023.

I would like to use a bit of your footage for a London Bus Museum project. Specifically the STL2377 clips. Can I have your consent please!
