- MURSIK - Another Authentic Kenyan delicacy that I was privileged to try out today for the very first time.
Mursik is a traditional fermented milk variant of the Kalenjin people of Kenya. It can be made from cow or goat milk and is fermented in a specially made calabash gourd locally known as a sotet. The gourd is lined with soot from specific trees, such as the African senna, which add flavor to the fermented milk.
In my one of my previous posts someone mentioned that the best Mursik had was at Alpros ( in Westlands, opposite Sarit Centre, Watamu Court ). Unfortunately when I got there, it was all sold out .
I stopped at Amazonia ( in Lavington ), and found a place on the ground floor that sells fresh fruits, juices and Mursik. I bought the Mursik for ksh250 / $1.95.
I love it ! Smells like cheese , tastes sour and is smooth in texture at the same time. I definitely think that I prefer this to any plain yogurt. I actually think this would go well with some blueberries and diced strawberries.
