I grew up around the Royal Ontario Museum, so had lots of opportunity to see the treasures, fossils and minerals on display. I suppose these things become an integral part of who we are and seeing them again is to experience that magic and awe all over again. I bought a few gorgeous pieces locally, but haven't had the adventure of digging my own yet. All the very best!
Wal nLiz I've actually watched quite a few, I've also told my friends at work, who have also enjoyed your videos, thank you so much for sharing your experience and experiences with us xx
Cilla Moke Thanks for sharing with your friends Cilla and we hope to continue sharing our adventures with those who enjoy the great outdoors and what it has to offer. Hope all's going great over your way. Take care...Wal.
Thanks for watching Craftin, Geology is a great profession to get into. You will find if you take it up that you will get to travel to some absolutely great parts of the country and get to experience the wonders of mother nature....best of luck with your adventures. Cheers Wal.

We just went to a crystal shop here in NZ. Ended up buying a crystal tree and some other crystals for over $250. This looks allot more fun. Awesome Channel Subbed.
Thanks for the response Alex, If ever you get the chance to dig the crystals for yourself I'm sure will find the experience very rewarding. Best of luck if ever you get out in the field...Cheers Wal.
We collect specimen pieces and as such, they do have collectors value. Some of the better crystals can collect as much as $30 to $40 each. Facet-able pieces can fetch anywhere from $2 to $50 per carat depending on clarity and colour. We however, would not be giving up our daytime jobs to try and make a living out of Amethyst. Regards, Wal and Liz
Glad you enjoyed the vid Alex. Certainly get a lot of satisfaction and good exercise swinging a shovel mate. Finding a few good crystals is only a bonus...experiencing the outback is rewarding enough. Best wishes..Cheers Wal.
Thanks for watching kiernan, you have to research mining and gemstone locations, and these are best found in mines department records or Gold and Gem books. Minerals are only in very specific locations, and unless you're at these locations you will rarely find any. best of luck and hope your research leads you to some Gems in your area....Cheers Wal.
Thanks for the kind comment jom, and glad you are finding some of the vids informative. Best of luck with your prospecting and hope luck follows you around. Cheers Wal.
We are not sunning our Amethyst....lol. We unpack them and put them on the tables so we can take a video/photo of how much we got. Amethyst will fade in the sun but still takes a few years. Some amethyst fades quicker than others. But we have some of these crystals displayed on our backyard rockery and after many years, they still retain their colour.
Hope you enjoyed the vid Jolo. We use the coloured crystals for jewelery making, and the larger crystals are used as display specimens. All the best , Cheers Wal.
Thanks for the comment Timmy.. Need to be a little bit tough if you want to experience what the great outdoors has to offer. We only collect for our personal enjoyment and to enjoy our weekends outside the big city...Cheers Wal.
Glad you enjoyed the vids Kitty, I'm sure once you start collecting your own gems and minerals you will find the hobby very rewarding.....Best of luck out there in the field. Cheers Wal.
i enjoy watching your videos, they are very educational and informative. I've always been interested in minerals and gems since i was a child, but now that i'm almost 18 i hope to do what u do.
Hi Liz, the work you do are fascinating. You have to know all these stone name and what they are. I duged something like what you did just didn't think twice. Tossed a side. This was when was I younger reading a little. Learn a lot from video. Yack
Thanks for watching MrBu, you will have to research your mines department records for gemstone locations in your area. These are from Kuridala in Queensland but there is locations all over the country where these can be found. All the best , Cheers Wal.
Hi Ryan....I've recently done a vid on high banker construction that may be of help to you..It's on our channel and It's the last vid in our series. I get most of my hoses and fittings from Aus Hose and they're at 54 Kembla st Fyshwick....good luck on your high banker and i hope the gold flows freely for you...Cheers Wal.
Thanks for watching teo, never even looked at what their monetary value would be. We only collect them as a hobby and for our own display cabinet....All the best , cheers Wal.
Top grade (Deep Purple) Cut Amethyst sells between $5+ per carat for a small stone to $50+ per carat for large stones.Cut Pink Amethyst like these ones range from $ 00.50 + per carat depending on how good the cut is. 5,000 carats = 1 kilogram.
This is so fascinating! I've been wanting to become a collector of minerals and gemstones and all I've seemed to find was a few sparkly igneous rocks and Quartz! I have no idea where to start to find gemstones like amethyst and other colored ones. Do you have any advice?
Hi broashley o, you should check out blue point amethyst mine it’s free admission and you pay by the bucket it’s $25 for one bucket drink a hammer water and some snacks they supply nothing you do not need a licence for Ming because the is a huge pile of rocks that you break apart. It’s in Shuniha Thunder Bay On
Thanks for watching bythehour1. These creeks in the outback flood every year and the holes you see are continually filled by the flood waters. So to answer your question, these small diggings have zero effect in the landscape as the holes are within the flood zone of the creek bed. Cheers Wal.
Wow. Yours is the very first video I've watched abt gem digging. They are so big and beautiful, and the way yr doing it doesn' t seem terribly invasive to the land. Although when do you shut down/stop working an area?
Very interesting, thanks for sharing. Ben E. Clement Mineral Museum 205 N Walker St.Marion, KY houses an outstanding collection of minerals, gemstones, carvings, period journals, photographs, mining tools and other items. The collection has been visited by various authorities on minerals and is believed to be one of the finest in existence. The Ben E. Clement Mineral Museum, Inc. was formed in June 1990 to make the attraction something that would generate outside interest in the mineral and mining heritage of West Kentucky.
Thanks for replying to my comments :) Appreciate it. Sometimes I really wish I live in a country with vast lands, where I can enjoy nature and reap what I sow with hard work and mine for my own minerals. Good day to you :)
When the landscape starts looking like the surface of the moon....lol...just kidding. In this particular area, it's a general prospecting area and usually the person digging the hole next to us throws their over burden into our hole. Hence generally, there are very few holes to be seen. These areas have been worked for years and still have years of prospecting in them.
Just great I plan on doing a lot of travel in my camper van and I would love to give this a go always been fascinated with crystals, not for making money but just for there beautiful colors, amethyst is my favorite love its purple color.
