Must end the myth that anyone on the hill didn`t pay .Myself and my 3 mates all had tickets, bought by mail order, hitched from Liverpool , and stayed on the hill as you could be next to your tent, move around , and do a pee if you needed to .We were all 14 , I think we were amongst the youngest there independently .
The first band they mentioned was Hawkwind, who didn't (officially) play at the festival. They played outside the gates in a protest to the ticket price.
Is it possible to get a copy of that panoramic photo of the event? I was there. Travelled to the isle on a hovercraft - a huge hovercraft. As we waited to board, my abiding memory is that amongst the hippies adorned with Afghan coats, flared jeans, tie-died T shirts and Cow Bells was a bloke wearing a three-piece pinstripe suit C/W bowler hat, umbrella and briefcase. As the hovercraft set off across the Solent I lost track of this guy. Looking up I saw the pilot and co-pilot and the Chartered Accountant was sat between them. He was obviously a Regular Traveller to the isle and they had rescued him from the ordeal of sitting amongst the crowd who smelt like wet goats.
I would like tickets of the 69 and 70 concerts. We had to give them up each day. That day's ticket was torn off your weekend ticket as you entered the main arena. I only have the Sunday ticket from 70 because they let you stay if you were still in the arena watching the Saturday concert as Sunday morning dawned.

Sadly Chris Weston passed away a short while ago here on the Isle of Wight. RIP Chris. Your legacy will live forever.
