I was a 7 year old Montreal resident in 1976 and this was all magical! I was taken to see gymnastics and I clearly remember this decathlon win. If you ever visit Montreal and the Olympic grounds (Biodome, insectarium, planetarium) be sure to take a walk over to the Olympic Village. It still has its MidCentury Modern look and in the east building are a grocery store, hair dresser and a couple of little restaurants-even a tiny second hand store!

1976 was an AMAZING year in the US!! Our Bicentennial, it was a year long patriotic party…Winning a gold medal in the Olympics that year would have been beyond epic!!
I was in the eleventh grade in 1976. I ran Track that year and watched the Olympics. Jenner was amazing to watch as you can see in this post. He was like Captain America winning the Decathlon during the Bicentennial. Amazing time.
Twelve years, TWELVE years, this man trained for the olympics. Twelve straight years. Every minute of every day, of every week, of every month , of every year.....I can't even imagine that kind of discipline. That is so impossible to me. This man sacrificed everything for his dream. His teenage years and his twenties were nothing but training and then some. It's just mind blowing, it really is. His family will never be able to even comprehend that part of his life. What he lived back then and his life now couldn't be more extremely different. Not that that's a bad thing. He just actually had to WORK to get where he is at. He is the epitome of hard work.
Ask a 5 year old gymnast that after they stop at 16 and after the olympics what that feels like. Dominique Dawes has competed in 3 consecutive olympics and metaled in all three not to mention the first 12 years was training for the first olympic games they competed in. Bruce totally kicked ass.
This was the year (1976) I graduated high school; it was our country’s bicentennial (and American pride has seldom been stronger); and it truly was the best Olympics in my lifetime. I watched every minute I could cram in!! It’s a tragedy what has happened in our country and to Bruce since then. May God have mercy!!!
Bruce was in the zone. It took a perfect day to break the record. This video shows Bruce in every event. That's what I was looking for. Everyone should see this performance at least once. Now I see why Bruce was on all those Wheaties boxes!
This was the same Olympic games where Nadia Comaneci scored all of those perfect tens. This was undoubtedly the greatest Olympic games during my lifetime. What a summer it was... the 4th of July revelry, the bicentennial celebrations and the most amazing summer Olympics imaginable.

Jenner on the Norm McDonald podcast is a great interview. Instantly disarmed me with "I'm not a woman, I'm a trans woman". Hey, Fair enough. And then tells of training for the events we just watched here. What a machine.
Thank you for this. A very interesting documentary on an incredible Olympic performance. The Montreal Olympics was a turning point for Australia. We did worse at that Olympics than any other. We won one silver medal and 4 bronze. It was by far the worst performance an Australian team had ever delivered. I remember being in my school hall and watching the 1500 mens swim and Stephen Holland was our great hope for a gold - but it was not to be. As a result of this Olympics Australia suddenly realised we could not longer rely on talented amateurs so the government set up the Institute of Sport and we have done much better ever since - especially in the pool.
Wow, I am truly inspired. I think I'm going to start training as a track runner and just try to get in the best physical shape for my health and enjoyment of it. Bruce Jenner was The athlete of the world in 1976. May God bless his soul.
I know him as an athlete and a stepdad. Ive never watched the Olympics since I was born in '85. It would be so easy to say that these haters are plain ignorant when I think they are just misinformed and uneducated. Keep an open mind. Not knowing who you are is hard enough for any person but having to go thru what he went thru.. Not everyone will be brave enough to face and deal with it.. in public. we are who we are, as part of the human race, we just need to respect them.
To @pennylane518: A man can NOT become a woman, ever, and vice versa. What Bruce has done, and is doing, is living out his sexual fetish in public. There is no such thing as a trans woman, because men can NOT transition into women. Telling the truth is NOT being a “hater, or mis-informed, or uneducated.” Who said anything about disrespecting Bruce? Bruce can live any way he wants to, but I draw the line at anyone making me pretend that Biology 101 does NOT exist, and go along with their mental illness.
What I remember was the the German women being built like men and a bush growth growing under their arms. They would also win most of the races they were in. I think they were all juiced up.🤣🤣
The ‘kick’ on the back straight in the 1500m is one of the most amazing moments in sports, not just Olympics, history. Not sure where Manic Movies got this copy (perhaps from Library of Congress, which had one), but it is a very high-quality upload of the original, which I produced and directed for General Mills/Wheaties. Gives a nice portrait of Jenner when he was a man (I think!). I guess he's still a man, but claims to be a woman trapped in a man's body. Listening to Jenner's closing remarks on this from back then and keeping in mind where Jenner is at in life now, wow. Bruce was the man, but Caitlyn is a slayer!!
Holy smokes he was smokin' back then. What a champion! So virile and masculine. His first wife was quoted as saying that he had no idea how good looking he was. When I saw photos of him circa Khardasian, I was saddened by his "plastic" and rather unnatural appearance. Fast forward to now, I hope Jenner is more at peace and on a happier path now. 🧡🧡
I remember at 12 years old watching the 1976 Montreal Olympics like it happened yesterday, it was a great games. Bruce Jenner, Sugar Ray Leonard, Nadia Comaneci were just a few superstar names of the highest order. Sugar Ray went on to greater things in professional boxing. Even the very young decathlon legend Daley Thompson was there to gain experience.
I have never seen this before. This is the Bruce Jenner I knew (and Bertha the dog). I was out there at San Jose City College training at the same time as he was. Well I was only there for an hour and 15 minutes between bus transfers. He was always there, 8 hours a day, every day. Nobody else did that. There was no money in it. People had jobs. I had school. People had lives. He'd sell insurance at night but Christy made the money to support this, working as a stewardess for United Airlines. We competed many times in individual events and in the local decathlons. I was faster, I jumped farther, challenged by running against the star. But he clobbered me on the strength and technical events in a competition that for him was just a training exercise--preparation for the big days documented in this film. That's why I'm a nobody and the Olympic decathlon was just the first step on his or her road to being an international celebrity.
The most heartbreaking aspect of this saga is losing "the man," Bruce. He was an icon, a hero, a superstar. Now, he represents the harsh reality of grappling with mental health issues... and losing.
Jenner is bright, intelligent, well spoken, had and is having a great career, is enjoying his family, seems very happy in his body now, have you listened to his talks, what mental issues exactly ? To feel good in your skin is something many regular folks, who havent endured a gender change, cannot even boast. Think and study before judging.
Bruce Jenner was my teen age hero. What he wanted to do,he did, all the way. It is more sane to me than guys with balls allowed to compete versus girls for the reason they feel like girls inside.
Everyone needs to chill. People are allowed they're opinions... I liked him better when he was a track star but that's MY opinion. He didn't have to make such a big deal out of it. Like he could've done it secretly without all these magazines and interviews giving him all this attention.
I remember we have a magazine with his photo in the front. We saw him win, specially my big brother with l remember in his room talking to me about the Olympics.l was 10 yo here in Puerto Rico.Just imagine the bad impression we got with his decision.l only hope his healing.

He inspired me in track & field, he lives on in my memories
3:26 he looks exactly like Kylie and Kendall as kids.
Yes I remember watching him.
He was in my cousins wedding, I went to Graceland also and my brother ran with him in track at Graceland College.
Good luck to you, Bruce. Do what makes you happy.
Thank you. Everyone else are such assholes.
Arrogant in a mans voice, the fools follow

Surf Board The underlying cause of gay/transgenderphobia........a so called straight guy's insecurity he would be unattractive to ANY gender or sexuality........
you've probably been turned down by at least one gay/transgender person in your life , surfboard? ....and you weren't even wise to it ...?
Thank SJCC Track and the San Jose Community of Athletes.... All the best... remember you running the fields and your wife out there...
This is the guy I used to see on the Wheaties box when I was a kid. This is the guy all kids my age (about 7 or 8 years old back then) wanted to grow up to be like. Wtf happened?
smithraymond09029 He stepped out of the Wheaties box and became a real person.
Don’t idolize people 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ simple as that. Celebrities are real people and aren’t gonna be exactly who you want them to be. They are human beings.
Listening to Jenner's closing remarks on this from back then and keeping in mind where Jenner is at in life now, wow. Bruce was the man, but Caitlyn is a slayer!!
Gotta give you thumbs up for your comment. He was my MAN hero and now he foo foo woman! Baaaaaahaaa🐐
Gosh I just LOVE Bruce! I HOPE I get his autograph one day.
he's now a woman
@@riptideog8783 That's...not possible.
@@riptideog8783still a man
2023 Still proud and admired by his achievements as an Olympic Gold Mentalist for this country.
God bless Bruce Jenner ---- and the young man that he was.
And still is
Watching this now feels so weird.
And sad
Bruce was a perfectly gorgeous man.
Great doco on a sporting legend.
He went from vaulting off poles, to mounting them.
LMAO XD
LOL dead.
Omg LOL!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!
😭😂😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Transphobe
Top shelf elite athlete!
But he cheated by using steroids!
The best of the 76 olympics!
That's why I'm a nobody and the Olympic decathlon was just the first step on his or her road to being an international celebrity.
where can i get those shorts. that what this video is all about.
Incredible that this extraordinary athlete is today Kathlyn Jenner!!!!
Kaitlyn jenner
@@stephanieschechter2456 lol , Caitlin Jenner
Look at the shoes they wore! I wonder how fast he/all the athletes would have run in today's running shoes.
these were great docs.
Remember when Bruce was on the breakfast Wheaties cereal box back when we could still look at him when we ate?
But Bruce is less sick than the insane bunch who want men swimming against women.
@MoonStone2626 his family is broken. And hes stressed af. You can tell.
You realize there are much greater standards in life you could have?
Great documentary
I was a Jr in high school when he did that and I remember how much I wanted to be like him. Not any more!
The main thing that allowed Jenner to win the Gold was his mind, the strongest of all muscles!
OMG! I used tho worship this guy as a teen in 1976. He was on the Wheaties's cereal boxes. What the heck happened to him....?
Brilliant. What an amazing life story.
I miss Bruce Jenner. Heartbreaking.
I used to idolized this athlete... until he lost is identity! The SADDEST thing to behold! The Bruce Jenner I know is gone!
He's so handsome
Wow Bruce is into all sports! Amazing! 😱
RIP Bruce. We'll miss ya breh.
1:08 that kiss tho lol
Yep, the woman who supported him through all this was dumped immediately afterwards. A true left-hander, he is.
*****
Anyone mentally and emotionally capable of such heartlessness is capable of ANYTHING. Btw, he was knee-deep in the drug operation that ended in OJ Simpson being framed for murder in the 90's. Indeed, this is a very dirty guy.
@@20alphabet
Yeah. And don't forget his involvement in faking the Moon landing.
❤
I vaguely remember the 1976 Summer Olympics. I mostly remember gymnastics legend Nadia Comaneci and her perfect 10.00s. I also remember Bruce Jenner winning the Decathlon and waving the US flag as he did his victory run around the track.
sad that this man will mostly be known for his ridiculous 'transition' rather than a magnificent athletic triumph.
Gorgeous Man, good hair- body built by the Gods. Praise his accomplishment, but sad at the loss of a great man.
Bruce is a role model for athletes
truly, his story is what motivates me, what a beast
I mean.. I don't plan on having a sex change so no thanks... I'll pass
So inspiring. I never knew much about BRUCE JENNER! You were a amazing inspiring man at that time. And now you are an inspiration as a "female" . Congratulations on being yourself and kicking ass ,. As someone who didn't feel like their true self you powered through it with strength and a major title!!! Much love for that
Still male
