Town Council should be ashamed of themselves allowing a hotel like Hacketts to fall into disrepair.
It was always going to "spontaneously combust"!

I see what you mean about the Cliffs canopy. Never thought about it before. The only time i was i a planetarium was in London for a laser show set to Genisis music. I fell asleep!
Hi such a shame, I stayed at the Berkeley apartments last Oct with my family which is very near the hotel that was damaged . 😮

The New Hacketts advert says they have a friendly relaxing atmosphere in the hotel..until you smell the smoke drifting up the corridor

Our man on the scene. How did the fire begin; do you know? That was truly wicked about those who lost money to a scammer. Teaches us, hopefully, to be more careful with our money. I presume people that lost monies are beside themselves.

It is all very sad ..Blackpool is a complete mess …..If you go down the side streets most of the small hotels are closed and the houses look such. a Mess ..The Golden summer days have long gone for Blackpool…. Just look at all the boarded up hotels.SAD,SAD,

There was also a porch fire in Elizabeth Street same day, just 10 minutes apart, 3 pumps from Blackpool, Bispham and South Shore attended...

It is tragic to see the decline of King Edward Avenue. It used to be a rather select avenue with many well-appointed guest houses. It appears to have entered the spiral of decline which has affected the rest of the town. Tragic.
Terrible that the hotel will be knocked down. In its current state it is very unsafe.
I doubt they will find the culprit who started the fire.

I'm just hoping when it needs to be demolished it doesn't effect any other Hotels on that block like The New Chelvedon.
It will start to come down tomorrow, but will it all come down.
Looking from the front the left side could be saved, I would who makes that decision.

They must’ve used something really really flammable. Maybe they must’ve put a few propane tanks in there. Who knows. But must’ve been really really flammable and used a lot to make it that big.

Never been so invested in what’s going to happen to this hotel lol, not been to Blackpool in years, used to go regular and we’d either stay on Hull Road or in the Hilton, before it was called the Hilton, I’m sure it started with a P back then.
Please keep us up to date, drone footage would be interesting to see the full extent of the damage.

We had a new tram that looks like a police car! Amazed the sign survived as very little else did. Have they sorted out the old vans yet?

Why are the trams running slow,if anything I thought they wasn't running till its demolished,Stephen I seen on news other day mr Basras all u can eat was giving 0 ratings and been told need to make urgent changes,maybe you could do a video on it,I booked a table there for when in Blackpool in September but don't think will bother now unless it changes 😢
Was wondering the other day is there any history why it was called New Hacketts
This was for many years the York Hotel . It was a a single property which then was subsequently purchased in the late 1980s by a Mr Dale Hackett who had, according to the local evening paper at the time, interests in the local nightclub and / or music business if I remember correctly. He very quickly had new signage adding his name - i..e. Hacketts York House hotel which remained in place a number of years. In the early 1990s whilst I was living in Bispham I remember he seemed to embark on a huge programme of expansion - hs name regularly appeared in the Evening Gazette in connection with his businesses - taking in the adjoining two or three hotels. 😅At that time, the 'York' name disappeared and was replaced with his own. I left Blackpool in 1997 as the town spiralled into decline; I assume that, like other hotels, his business, too, started to struggle.

York House, I think.
Yes, York House Hotel. Run by my family from 1925-1984. Then new owners took over the Holborn Hotel next door and the White Lodge on the corner. Devastating to see it today.

Blackpool twinned with Baltimore, slums and burned out buildings.
They were very quick to get a demolition contractor on site. It’s almost as if they were on standby.
When I arrive in Blackpool in five weeks for five days, probably will see a gap site.
