In April 1965, the song "Gloria" was released by Van Morrison's band, "Them", through Decca Records. It was the first single taken from the group's debut album "The Angry Young Them". Throughout June 1966, The Doors opened shows for Them at the Whiskey a-Go Go in Los Angeles. On the final night, Jim Morrison joined "Them" on stage to perform "Gloria", and during the 20 minute version the two Morrison men reportedly exchanged verses back and forth. There is no known recording of the show but there is a photo. Since its release, "Gloria" has been covered far and wide. In 1965 alone The Gants, The Bobby Fuller Four, and The Shadows of Knight all released "Gloria" as a single.- Gaslight Records

morrison when dialed in was a straight up rock 'n roll animal..... his improv on this, walking up the stair, into the rm & the band slowing pace & melding in perfectly w/ his scat lyrics & evocative description is why this band was the most dangerous of their era. they, esp morrison, knew how to create tension & drama, almost like a theater sense, better then any rock band whose performed on stage.

I'm way too young to have ever seen The Doors. However, I find when listening to live shows of them it seems that as Morrison went, so did the rest of the band. When he was tanked and useless, the band seemed positively uninspired. When he was focused and relatively sober, the band could reach dizzying heights of improvisational genius. The Doors were amazing.

Any way winter of the pandemic I did a dna test and I found my bio mom and sister, and while attempting to contact them started doing my genealogy. I did moms side first and I was dumb struck. It turns out three of my four grandparents descended from aristocrats. LOTS of aristocrats. Any way, the next surprises had me even more floored. I'm Jim Morrisons second cousin once removed on dad's side and on moms I'm Doc Hollidays fourth cousin, which means Val Kilmer played both of my famous cousins in movies :)

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume this is true:
Very cool heritage! I went to Paris twice, and saw his grave. I grew up in the 80's, when The Doors were enjoying a surge in retro-popularity. I did my book report on No One Here Gets Out Alive, and caught some wrath from the teacher, who (not incorrectly) admonished me for choosing such poor role-models. I always loved their music though!
BTW, I'm going as Jim Morrison for Halloween, and my wife is going as Janis Joplin. I went as far as custom-ordering reproductions of his famous leather pants, and his jacket. I meticulously searched for his famous concho-belt. Had the beaded necklace from his Rollingstones photo-shoot, and picked out an appropriate shirt.
If I have a few drinks, I may even do some karaoke. (That's sort of what indirectly led me here).
      Cool family tree!

I was adopted. I found my mother but still haven't found my dad. All of my cousin matches on Ancestry are related to Glenn Arden Matteson and Jennie Myrtle Clarke Matteson. There are multiple options for the relation to the Matteson couple and to my cousins so I have to guess at the connection. It appears there is no other possible connection to Jennie. She is Morrisons great aunt and the sister of his maternal grandfather Dalton Clarke. I enjoyed your comment.

The Doors performed a live version of this song that is MUCH more explicit. At the end, Jim teases the crowd saying, "You people spend much too much time in those restrooms, I tell you that. Hey, we know what you're doing in there." As a teenage boy dealing with puberty, this song tainted my perception of healthy relationships!

Brad & Lex, you’ll love their “Love Me Two Times”!!
edit- I agree with Mellie, the better version is by Them(the Irish rock band) with Van Morrison on vocals.

This is such a cleaned-up, edited version compared to the original live version it was taken from. The versions on "Backstage and Dangerous" and Felt Forum 1970 are positively filthy! The Doors at their dangerous, defiant best.

This is the cut up overdubbed version Paul Rothchild and the 3 living Doors recorded in 1982-83. Jim's vocal is from the Aquarius theater in LA in 1969. They were recording live shows an the day between the show they played on stage and it was recorded. Jim hated the idea any of it would be used to fake live recordings. Jim launched into an ocean of obscenities and did all he could to sabotage the recordings. While this version is "cute" and ready for air play the uncut real recorded live with no audience version is much better. It was released in the early 2000s under the Bright Midnight Doors record label. The album is "backstage and Dangerous". ruclips.net/video/prMxoBebj_o/видео.html

Doors keyboards give them a distinctive sound. Pair it with a super charismatic front man like Jim Morrison, it's easy to make distinctive-sounding hit records. So much of this song just kind of sits right in the pocket; super-cool. Mundane yet raunchy story about what was happening in the suburbs while the parents were out; the sorts of things that parents did NOT think were happening. There's another "Gloria" song by VAN Morrison - also very cool, but not as explicit.
