At my school 30% of the new architecture students dropped out after the first midterm of their freshman year, and I’ve heard that on the wall of the studio they have a “memorial” of names of the people that dropped out, as well as the date

A lot of archi. students, me included, pursued architecture because of an interest in planning and design. (Fingers crossed I make it to my last year🤞.)
my dads was an architect, he was one for about 30 years before the stress got to him, he began drinking and now hes a sack on the couch. he was a fun guy tho definitely pursue this
i studied architecture. our first year second semester was the semester they called the “purge semester” aka where they made everything so hard they weeded out the students who weren’t right for architecture.
@@SxnsetRosy this is pretty much every reputable architecture school. It's called "architorture" for a reason. Many students dropped out and transferred to engineering instead because it was easier. The worst part is, after all this, architects still don't get paid very well in comparison to other professional degrees.

@@Extradub32p hi I am a first year student so might not have much insights but I can you that the work load is real and once you study architecture you really fall in love with it. Time management is really the key to submissions. All I can say is don't procrastinate and you will have your best time taking architecture as a major and giving life to your creation. Hoping this is helpful.

As someone who is in an architecture school I can relate. For me the first midterm was hard, especially since I got some pretty strict professors, ESPECIALLY MATH. But luckily I'm a second year now and things are going way more smooth then in the start.
This Is pretty much accurate. For one studio I went to bed at around 4am and had a dream about part of my presentation that needed some polishing up so I woke up around 6am to go and fix it before I forget. I didn't go back to sleep.

@@4kstan420 I go to UofT For the material, it was not been that expensive cause the university had multiple deals with nearby art shops, (If I remember correctly, it was tube, tracing paper roll, cutting mat, cutters, rulers and T-square,… for $100🤔🤔🤔(idk anymore) ) and most of the shops had student promos too. I missed the deals and had to buy things separately which was pricier 🫠… some classes may require supplementary art supplies (acrylic paints, canvas, etc). I bought my materials progressively, so I find it hard to put an amount to the whole thing but for my first year’s materials, I’ll say roughly no more than 400$🤔🤔🤔 Another cost would be “plotting” for assignments (but it’s reasonable) I hope this helped a little ✨ Good luck 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾✨🍀
No matter how hard it will be and how much time i will waste, i still wanna do it. I couldn't see myself doing anything else. The only fear I have is that they will not give me enough freedom to designing. Nowadays architecture is very boring and ugly. I wanna change that but I don't know if people will let me.
Well, you defenetly will start off doing boring jobs, most likely still at a company to have more experience and work on a team of architects, but you will be able to become an independent architect, so, you will have more freedom there(still as much as the clients will let you)
My dad is an architect and from what i have heard this is acurate. The all black clothes, doing work till late into the night, the over using of vending machines and the sleeping in the studio are all true
3rd year student here from uk, we only do 3 years undergrad but it’s hard as hell like the workload, and yep 3am is minimum especially when it’s close to deadline, sometimes you work for 16h+ a day 😢
I’m a designer, architect for division 27 ( RCDD ) and work with 24 different architects and engineers. It’s called redlining and it’s a part of the process. You complete a draft and print it to bluebeam where your team corrects mistakes and sends it back to be corrected. It’s a team effort and that’s exactly how it works. I’ve been a designer for ten years now and I absolutely love everything about it. We are currently designing upgrades to the VA hospitals and the EHR systems for the doctors and staff. Very proud to be helping the Vets.
Sometimes people make videos of them working in studio and I can’t watch them without having ptsd flashbacks. I left college with a degree and an anxiety disorder
Man, if I wasn’t pursuing music right now, (the thing I’m best at and my favorite thing), I may have picked up architecture. Seeing these marvelous creations, especially from the really inventive creative minds like Frank Gehry and Jean Nouvel, is just incredibly inspiring with how they made their art come to life. (I didn’t pursue it because you have to be really good at math, and that’s my worst enemy lol)
