Serato 3.2 Beta - New FX, Silicon Support, But Is It Enough?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 июл 2024
- Serato just dropped the 3.2 Beta of both Serato DJ Pro and Serato DJ Lite, which brings a revamped effects section including switchable channel FX (great idea!), and Apple Silicon support - but big and arguably more needed improvement requests remain unanswered. We take a look at the bigger picture...

100% agreed Phil. Apple Silicon was severely overdue: yay.
BUT, FX revamp was soooooo outta left field for me. It makes 0 sense because every DJ I know also doesn’t venture beyond the big three FX you mentioned.
Serato’s immensely needs an overhaul with library management & organization, because it’s wildly cumbersome & dated compared to what Virtual & Algoriddim have done.
Look at the end of the day any development is welcome. It’s just as you say and as we think there are bigger things that could’ve been tackled.
@@digitaldjtips Agreed 100%.
Since Serato is so widely used, I can appreciate them taking the time to properly develop things and adequately test features before release. DJ.Studio’s AI beat-griding is glitchy, and their focus is to just throw in as many features as they can and let their subscribers “guinea pig” it
Serato have always been good at getting things right
Song Preview would be a great addition in the future. Currently, using Mix In Key’s meta data to add Energy Level has helped with my on the fly song selection
Thanks for sharing!
I would like to see stems volume control, just like Djay Pro has, its super neat to have that kind of control...
Thanks for sharing
with some research you can now have it by doing some midi mapping
really curious that when they looked at the biggest problems they could solve, they decided more efx? major disconnect from their customer here. when you said filter, echo, reverb i was like; 💯
Software companies always balance 'biggest problem' with 'cheapest to solve' and most attractive to new customers. They didn't get rid of the primary effects they added secondary functionality, so they clearly agree thats not broken so didn't 'fix it'.
You make a good point here regarding trying to attract new customers
For Electronic music DJ's, effects are a bigger deal. Just ask the Dubfire's, Ian Goldens and Ritchie Hawtin's of the world. Carl Cox' current setup has a multitude of effects at his disposal. He uses them subtly but collectively they make for an awesome set. Not every reverb and echo are the same. And Techno and Melodic House DJ's like myself need more than one type to isolate specific parts of a track with. I've personally been trying different effects pedals for months to use with standalone gear. Because Pioneer's reverb just doesn't hit like the reverbs in Ableton live. Furthermore, I've been in lots of forums where Dj's often complain about how cheesy Serato effects sound. And I believe this is the reason for the upgrade.
Hundred percent agree with you. However, that isn’t most of our audience, for instance. If Traktor is where Serato is now aiming its sites that’s a little bit curious because Traktor has its part of the market stitched up and there are lots of things that Serato users are asking for that aren’t addressed here.
@@digitaldjtips You have a point Phil. This update is probably not what most of the audience here is looking for. There's just a small group of Traktor users who want the advantages that Serato brings; like live stem separation, and are hoping that the new effects are good enough for them to have the best of both worlds.
I feel like we no longer pick DJ software with the "best" features, we pick DJ software with the compromises we're willing to live with. Sad state of affairs. So many more useful features that have been ignored for years.
It’s just a tool to get you to where you want to be. Music is important. Programming is important. And mixing doesn’t need a lot of resources to do a great job of
Plenty of other options! Choice is great.
Perfectly said 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks
Works like a charm. Been using on the 3.2 beta my last 3 gigs this weekend. 4 hours Friday night, 4 hours Saturday night, 4 hour Yesterday for brunch. Not one glitch or hiccup. Nothing. M1 Mac Pro MacBook Pro, 16gb ram, 2tb SSD running Ventura and using an FLX10 controller.
That is great to hear
I’m looking forward to having Reverb on my knob but the thing I look forward the most to in this update is manually loops being quantized which you didnt mention.
That’s because I didn’t pick up on that, which is a good thing thanks for highlighting it
This is actually a huge release. Yes people only use a few FX usually but now they are actually useable and sound so much better.
Example 1: echo now sounds clean and isn’t distorted. And the timing is improved. This is awesome when I have to play on a controller that is sw-only FX.
Example 2: filter is vastly improved. If you are a Rane Four user for example, there is no HW filter in Serato online mode. Now it sounds great without the weird audio volume drops the minute you engage HPF or LPF. Hook up two laptops, run the same track, 1 with the beta and 1 with 3.1.x and test it back and forth. Huge difference you can notice and now my only gripe with the Rane Four is gone!
And Apple Silicone support is huge. Finally. It runs so smoothly on my MacBook Pro M3 Pro. The waveforms haven’t been this smooth since SSL.
And the new FX UI is much more useable.
This is the most important upgrade in a LONG time. Folks complain it’s not enough but I think it’s a huge bit of progress.
Thanks Andrei for an alternative view there!
I agree that only a limited number of effects (FX) are utilised for DJs performing live for an audience. The extensive range of additional effects suggests that Serato is attempting to appeal to bedroom DJs who enjoy experimenting with multiple effects.
Or techno/minimal house etc DJs who use loops, FX etc a lot more than most.
yessssss i was thinking the same thing not lots of djs use to many FX and yes they need to do something about the beat grid and the liberty hope we see some thing like that on next up date
Let’s hope!
I use the Filter Dub Echo in literally all my livesets :)
It’s a nice one
@@digitaldjtips Yep it is 😊
Without track preview, Serato is a non-starter for me. I tried it but that is a big hole in the software. Especially when all the other major DVS have available. Heck, even Engine DJ has track preview in the standalone players. I believe Pioneer has as well on the 3000. Digital Music Libraries are too large for most to not have that feature.
On the face of it, it shouldn’t be too hard to add right? let’s hope that they think about this one
Agree. I can imagine it wouldn't be too hard. Basically, it's just a master cue channel. Just have to sort out how it's activated.
As a DDJ-SX user, this is exactly what I want!!!! I’m new in the game and saving up for a used SRT, but this will definitely be fun to utilize because I only have a filter on my CFX knobs 😁
i'm amazed this is now coiming to serato. It's been in vdj forever
It’s perfect for you then!
I've been using it since launch and it's flawless so far and takes half the ram of 3.1.
Mac user presumably?
What we need is an up to date Pioneering Standalone Controller or Alpha theta I am this close to go Denon
I have all the extra fx on a subscription, only use them if I run external synths through the controller.
Look, they’re great, it’s just that we don’t think more of the same is necessarily the biggest need here
Sir the plan is that serato want the small controller to be using their software effect bcos the smaller controller sales more by doing this it will make DJs get use to the software effect mostly upcoming DJs I think that's the plan sir
Totally agree with you Phil!!! If I use any effects it’s mainly echoe, some HF, LF, and once in a while flanger but I would prefer Serato to work on other things like song preview, making stems better (which they’re better than RB), etc. But I’m sure they’re doing an overall update due to the Rane Performer soon to be released (whenever that’ll be).
Adding new controllers is part of what they do though, it shouldn’t stop other developments
I’m pretty sure they’ll surprise us with other developments they’re working on. Guess we’ll have to wait until the release of the updated software comes out.
Best of luck... those 'newer' features that are already out on the other platforms may come to serato in the next 2-3 years. They hv a great record in playinh catch up.
Not necessarily anything wrong with that as long as you do it properly when you do do it
I use the FLX 10 with a M3 MacBook air 16/512
I had this weird thing with the reverb causing a red dot when applied to the 4 decks at the same time
Now it's gone so i guess this new version really offers better performance on silicon chips
I also noticed faster initial loading time and stems séparation
You’d hope so!
Well as a Serato DJ I know a lot of DJs use Rekordbox, and most of those use the Noise effect. There are a number of videos trying to emulate that with Serato in its base config but not very satisfyingly. Previous of your videos have (rightly) decried how expensive Serato is for getting the same functionality as other software suites. One of those up-sells is the effects package addon which we have to pay additionally to access. From the preview we'll get that effect. And quick access to changing the most easily accessed hardware knob for filtering to a preferred primary would be handy.
But yea.. other things would be nice.
The noise effect on the channel effects is as you say a great addition
I wanna see the day when i can rename a folder and move it some place different and the songs from that folder inside my custom crates aren't affected.. the relocate lost files button isn't practical and has proven to be useless if you move the root folder. Also, the day I can batch highlight a bunch of crates and drag em all at once into another crate (creaing subcrates on the fly) would be the day serato earned my respect.
Library improvements are one of the areas our students tell us regularly they want to see
Feels to me like minimal updates to keep customers feeling like they're getting something while awaiting the outcome of the AlphaTheta/Serato merger. Makes sense they wouldn't want to invest too much in development and potentially diverge more from Rekordbox if they may end up merging in the foreseeable future (if that is what AlphaTheta's long term plan is).
Makes a lot of sense…
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Wow! You just said what is my expections. I heard from pro DJ that Serato will never add the beatgrid function like djay pro features. Like just beatmatch manually for old songs. Completely disagree with that.
amazing how many corporations don't listen to their customer base
If you’ve got time to properly manually be with your songs, then Serato is very good with older material
I’m not sure they will never add it…
I think they are doing like that because the next update will by the ability to change the channel FX
Maybe!
I got that version.
What do you think?
@@digitaldjtips I tried it with an upcoming RANe model. I LOVE the focus on stems and effects as far as the rest goes it's very familiar. I just think it's a missed opportunity that we still have to press start first before being able to trigger hot cues without the song stopping the second you let go.
Fluid beat grids please serato.
+1 from us
Fluid beat grids please serato
Fingers crossed!
I think last 'djing game changers' has been Rane 12s and Phase DJ, everything else is 'frills' to sell..
Real-time stems, cloud libraries, AI beatgridding
@@digitaldjtips I'm aware but (IMHO) not so 'changers' 😉
Software FX was long overdue for an update
You may software effects right this is software we are talking about
Apple slicon support 😆 I just assumed everyone had it at this stage.
You would right?
Has it been using Rosetta this whole time? To be fair I found it was working pretty well, I have an M1 and I could access stems pretty much instantly. I wasn't pre-preparing them either, just using the option to process stems on song load.
still waiting on traktor to catch up to these other softwares 😥
You are right it doesn’t move particularly quickly
Same here. I’ve tried all of them and Traktor just feels right and is more enjoyable to use. Serato needs to improve their UX/UI.
Virtual dj has this long time ago 😂
moved to EngineDj, never looked back… screw you AT and Serato, greed villains in arms
Serato should implement options to be able to sort your tracks like rekordbox did…that would be helpfull
Many have asked so hopefully we will see library improvements at some point
I think they need to look at beat gridding. It’s been awful for the last three years. Certain genres are all over the place. I use Lexicon DJ because it’s so difficult to quickly get grids right.
Agreed, it is an area they could improve.
They need to make pitch n time free in DJ pro
Oh, they definitely need to do that, that is an ill thought through policy we’ve been telling them that ourselves for a long long time it’s ridiculous
what you said you want to see in serato.... is all that VirtualDj 2024 has done 😁
Both virtual DJ and djay pro tend to stay ahead of the game
More Cowbell. . .
🤣
Keep saying the same thing for years…… they should focus on the library especially music analysts Serato is the slowest
Day 5 of asking Phil to DJ for us 😊
I do all my DJing inside the courses
No need for more effects. How about just making the most stable and bug free software available.
It's pretty good to be fair
More cowbell lol
🤣
So much fluff and little substance per usual in this video. Agreements come to an end, be it hardware or software (FX plugins) when they are not owned or developed by Serato themselves. None of this is surprising other than their FX with iZotope lasted this long.
You don’t have to watch our videos you know
In my opinion they need to fix the core essential functions before messing around with things like Fx. 95% of my tracks are still drifting out of time faster than I can bring them in. That’s after manually beat gridding all my tracks to insure they have the correct bpm and grids!. Literally I beat match and by time I’ve faded the track in its out of time like way out like a bar out of time!.
To me it’s like a company releasing the most spectacular supercar you’ve ever seen. With mind blowing specs and technology…. But it overheats and breaks down after 500meters. So it’s a useless car because it can’t do the core essentials that a car is meant to do. Same for serato in my experience it can’t do the core basic functions of enabling djing so it’s useless software for me at least.
*don’t use it personally. but. “sync” to beat or whateverit is called ?! like .. r you certain that correct parameters checked.
Thats not something that Serato normally does and is specific to your setup somehow. Whether thats weak cpu or improper 'manual beatgridding' being done wrong.
This sounds unusual with properly gridded songs it is very good at keeping things in time
Ive been using Serato for about 16yrs and never had an issue with keeping tracks in time.... sounds like a workflow issue.
It’s BETA not BEEta. 🤦🏽♂️😅👍🏽
According to whom? 🙄 so silly lmao
Not where he's from.
Do you own a passport?
so its completely useless for ddj1000srt? perfect.. i will never buy pioneer again
Not sure what you mean
Absolutely I'm more of an open source DJ and I will say the only effects I use is echo maybe filter and reverb I've been faithful to native instruments tractor I recently let it Go by a little over a year ago to jump on serato serratos been good in some ways and bad and others and then I came across algorithm DJ I got that I use algorithm DJ just for the same reason you just mentioned big red and loop function is flawless it beats serato tractor record box hands down so right now I'm using algorithm DJ it's a better software as far as looping anything from the 70s is phenomenal it's always a perfect look so right now I'm rocking with algorithm serato needs to catch up 🎚️🎚️🎚️💪🏿💯
When you look at software in other sectors like photography, video editing and music production, djay Pro is the closest to a comparable platform in DJ software as far as being the most modern goes.
