I’ve read from those who were blessed to have actually known her that as breathtakingly beautiful motion pictures portrayed her, she was light years more beautiful in person. To paraphrase, pictures did not do her justice. Other great beauties from the Hollywood golden era were greatly intimidated by her and typically declined publicly events when they realized she’d be there. I watched this film with my mother many many years after Vivien Leigh died. I fell in love with Vivien Leigh instantly. And this movie ruined me for the rest of my life because I thought my own love story will be as dramatic and fateful as this one. Alas, I never found my Vivien Leigh for Vivien set the impossible standard for the rest of other women, regardless of age, to attain.
