  • During the Second World War, Allied POW’s are in a camp as the Germans are always watching them. However by making their move against them, they dug a tunnel from beneath the camp as they make their escape. This is where they need to get out of the tunnel fast during an air raid.

    Without a doubt, the most exciting moment in the movie. I have watched this film over one hundred times and I keep on getting nervous as if I were one of the prisoners trying to escape.

    Seeing Danny have to face his fears in the dark tunnel during the air raid was one of the highlights of the entire movie for me. Charles Bronson is usually cast to play the "tough guy" archetype, but this shows he has range as an actor.

      Charles Bronson really was claustrophobic but this scene added so much more depth to his character. He dug 17 or more than 17 tunnels yet was petrified of them. I know the character he played was a caricature of a real escapee, but I was so happy to see him make a full home run without ever being recaptured.

    considering the things that went wrong it`s a wonder they got out as many as they did. besides the tunnel being to short. there was a delay durning the air raid, lighting the fat lamps. also remember the scene where they told the guy that trunk wouldnt make it. in real life the trunk snaged the side of the tunnel causing a small cave in that had to be fixed in a hurry

      Not to mention that IRL there was snow on the ground making it easier for the Germans to follow their trail. When filming the movie they hoped for snow but it just didn't happen.

    How on earth did they come up short with the tunnel.

    • @O-DogKubrick
      @O-DogKubrick  5 месяцев назад

      Their plan was to take off in the forest. Only if they made it by digging. They only made one measly little error that they came up short. Digging back in the day was all hard work, and so was to make sure how many feet that they would go far on.

      They miscalculated the distance between the fence and the woods. And at that point there was no more time to keep building. All their preparation, forging tickets for the trains and getting everyone organised was all for that night. It was then or never.

      There were another mistakes that did not happened in the real even, being the most important that, during that night, March, 24 th-25 th, the land was completely covered by snow and, It took them nearly an hour to put off the tramp because It was frozen due to very low temperature. Remember they were in Germany...
