- Talk’s Kevin O’Sullivan is joined by The Jewish Telegraph’s Paul Harris who says it’s “ridiculous” speakers are pulling out of Hay Festival over its Israeli ties.
The Hay Festival has decided to end its partnership with its primary sponsor due to an increasing number of speakers refusing to participate in the event.
Nish Kumar, a popular British comedian, is the most recent individual to withdraw from the festival due to its association with investment management company Baillie Gifford.
Additionally, Charlotte Church, along with other well-known figures, has joined the movement urging for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

I support Israel. I don't understand why Israel is not 'allowed' to defend itself and to recover its hostages. No other attacked country would tolerate this bizarre blaming culture. It is so obvious that it is Hamas who are the villains here.

Think about it. Islam is always the aggressor. It is a defensive war for Israel. But if you look the amount of conquests Islam had it is hard to say they are not the aggressor. Hamas are doing jihad. Why do people expect showbiz celebreties to know or understand anything outside their own speciality? CC is entitled to her own view and one could argue with her about that. Her choice to try to influence the Hay Festival is the questionable behaviour. There she is at least putting her reputation as a reliable performer on the line. No doubt some producers and event organisers will think twice about booking her in future. Of course, she may be cultivating a section of her audience who agree with her, but I'd have thought her appeal had been mainly to older and wiser people.

Thank you for explaining what happened outside the Phoenix Cinema. The BBC local news with Assad Ahmed called it the disruption of a Palestinian ‘vigil’. Makes it sound a peaceful, almost holy, demonstration. Why would the BBC do that? They are adamant they are not biased on this conflict.
For the last 20 years Arab governments have been spreading big money around to colleges, media, and entertainment companies, pushing the "Israel bad, Palestine good" agenda. They've also been sending all those hundreds of thousands of Muslim migrants to western countries, with orders to take over. It's had an effect.

My dad lives in Hay. The festival is full of irritating 'Hoorah Tim Nice but dims' blocking up the place with their pastel jumpers, tied around their necks. It's like a libdem jamboree. They are thick as mince, walking in the middle of roads and asking daft questions, like where to buy Ugandan goat tapioca. I vowed never to visit when the festival was on, several years ago as I have a very short fuse and a strong compulsion to advise them that I consider them human detritus.
