This is the video I’ve been searching for, I know this video is old but you gave me confidence my output shaft will come out because no doubt this will work, I have used the method where you loop a chain on the bolt that will thread into the output shaft and have a hammer at the end of it put that didn’t work after hours of constantly pulling on it, this video gave me an idea for me to create my own method to pull out the out shaft on my Mitsubishi Evo 7
Encountered this very problem today and could not believe how difficult this shaft removal was until i watched this video. I tried a slide hammer and it would not do the job. The pipe method worked like a charm, off in like 30 sec when it was setup. Used one of the metric bolts from trans case housing to complete the task. Thank You!!
How did you get the outer case off it? I got a 42rle out of my wife's 04 jeep lib and I'm getting another one from advanced auto and they said I need to take off the rear of the transmission but the people that rebuilt this transmission sealed it all with some gluey silicone junk and I don't wanna get to rough with it so I don't break or crack it.
I dont think mine have silicone, I think it had the original gasket so it wasn't too hard to get off. Also I had a 4X4 so the transfer case was there the outer case was and it only had 6 bolts holding it on. Hope this helps and good luck
@@TRAVISVANZUIDEN so I tipped my 42rle up on the bell and found another pry point and gently used a pry bar and it just popped off and took the shaft with it 😆
Thanks, got one from ebay, this method didnt work for me, used a harbor freight slide hammer-it threaded directly in and on the fifth very fast slam it popped out,was no need to remove extension or trans to do this. Good video never would have known these had an extension shaft on them. Also transguy said the early 231j are made with a bigger shaft than current model jeeps still using the 231j- transfer case.oops.

Awesome!!! Thank you for the upload. I couldn’t find an exhaust pipe but I had many tail housings laying around the shop and used that! Haha

Do you happen to remember what size bolt you used to screw into the output shaft? Thanks
