Hi Jonny, how are you doing ? It was such a pleasure watching your video and communicating back and forth with you, and because of you I purchased the Laney 4x4 more than a year ago and I thought I would finally get back to you and let you know how it has worked out for me. Let me start by saying my main go to amplifier is the Carvin S600B and the Laney actually reminds me of a much smaller version of the Carvin amplifier ! I am a singer who sings to karaoke tracks using an MP3 player and I do not play any instruments. I am extremely well-known locally and people are always coming up to me and thanking me for singing to them and telling me that I am a fantastic singer and people are always coming up to me and telling me how much they appreciate and love me ...... lol I thank God for this because it feeds my heart and soul and it makes me happy and it gives me a reason for a living !!!! I know that I am blessed and I give God the glory and the praise for my life my health my strength and all my talents, Because without him I am nothing !!!!!!! Now that you have a little background on me and now that you know what I do with my amplifiers let's get back to talking about the amplifiers. The Carvin weighs 25 lb with a lead acid battery in it, so I took the lead acid battery out of it and I made a couple of lithium ion battery packs which are a lot lighter and which will power the unit much longer ! Although the Carvin amplifier is not much heavier than the Laney the Carvin amplifier is approximately 3 times larger than the Laney so I wanted to get something smaller to take with me because I don't drive and I wanted to lighten my load and have a smaller load overall ! This is what I discovered with both the Carvin and the Laney, if I want my voice to sound as clear as possible and if I want my voice to travel the longest distance possible without Distortion and if I want people to know that it's actually me singing and not me just moving my lips to a soundtrack or a recorded song, I should not play the music through the Laney or the Carvin, but only sing through those amplifiers ! So I started wearing a couple of small speakers on my body to play the karaoke music through which also makes it extremely easy for me to hear the music and in return my fans get to hear my voice without any distracting music or without any Distortion what so ever . Oh by the way ....I have a funny story to tell, for the longest time many people did not believe that I was actually singing, most people felt that I was lip syncing or faking it because they did not believe that my voice was actually coming out of my body because I sounded so professional and because I could make my voice go from really deep all the way up to sounding like a little girl and then all the way up into a whistle voice ! I think most people could not believe that a grown man with gray hair could sing like a little girl and could do all these things with his voice without using special equipment ! So I finally made it so they could basically only hear my voice and then and only then did most people actually realize that I was singing and that a person could do what I was actually doing with my voice...lol So to make a long story short the Laney is working out fine for me even though the Carvin is still my main amplifier because the Carvin plays quite a bit louder and it carries the sound about twice as far. But on the days when I don't feel like carrying the Carvin because of the extra weight and extra bulk I take the Laney with me and it is loud enough, especially when only my voice is going through it, so now I have a viable choice, I can bring the medium-sized amplifier with me known as a Carvin or when I don't feel like carrying it with me I can bring the small amplifier with me known as the Laney, and next time I go out singing I think I will take both amplifiers with me fore double the pleasure double the fun ! God bless you Jonny, and I hope and pray that all your hopes, prayers and dreams come true !!!
Hi Jeremy. The reverb applies to the 2 combi input channels only which would be your vocals so your guitar and violin would be dry. I think that your set up would work just fine though, it's what the 4x4 was designed to do. I guess if you really felt you needed reverb on your strings a cheap reverb pedal could do the job for you.
Hi, love the video! You are really thorough. Do you think this would be suitable for a circle show? I’m looking for a nice loud pa to work for crowds of 35 to 150 people and wondered if this would be suitable.
Hi Jonathon. Yes, think of it just like a mini PA and it has a stereo input too. Probably don't want to send some big bassy synth sounds through those little drivers but it will work just fine.
I love your review of this amp, and I just ordered me one... along with the convenient carrying bag that is made for it ! Thank you for getting back to me and answering my guestions !
I am looking at getting this as a solo acoustic guitar/vocals and assume its loud enough for small beer gardens and small bars/cafes. I've read that there can be ground hum issues when using electro acoustic guitars and the PA powered by Mains PSU. Have you experienced any of this or was it an issue with your unit?
Hi bud, I no longer have the Laney but yes I used it for a few outdoor events and it worked fine. Certainly not as loud as the Crate Limo 50 for example but did the job just fine. I do recall a little ground hum plugged in but nothing audible once playing.
@@Afroman86 I invested in a pair of Yamaha DBR 12's and a Yamaha MG10XU desk. Mainly as I run a tribute band and do solo events so it's a nice flexible set up. The Laney was to cover any smaller events and outdoor stuff but I found I just wan't taking those gigs anymore. I'm very happy with the Yamaha set up which I've had for about 5 years now. I did use a Fishman Loudbox for solo gigs before the Laney and though that was great if you don't need the battery option.
Hi Jonny, how does this compare to the Crate Limo as far as sound quality and overall loudest goes ? Would you say the 4x4 gets just as loud as your old Crate Limo did ?
Could have done with a headphone socket for the little bit of indoor practice . I bought mine today and could really do with it . The sound is very very good and no complaints .... except I dont want my neighbours hear me practice stuff....

Does the onboard reverb apply to the stereo quarter jack inputs too? I'm thinking of a 2 singer, 1 guitar and 1 violin setup, will it work?

@@realhomestudioofficial that’s really helpful! Thank you!
Hi Jonny, this is probably an ignorant question, but is it only for acoustic guitars or can it take electric? Thanks
Hi, love the video! You are really thorough.

Hi can it be use as a keyboard amp?
Hi Jonathon. Yes, think of it just like a mini PA and it has a stereo input too. Probably don't want to send some big bassy synth sounds through those little drivers but it will work just fine.
How many hours do the batteries last for?
Great review. Do you think it's got enough volume to busk electric guitar with backing track in noisy environments? It is only 35watts
Is it loud enough to use on a really noisy and loud street corner that has lots of buses and trucks stopping at it's red light ?
I'm the owner of one and isn't loud enough to go against traffic noises!
I love your review of this amp, and I just ordered me one... along with the convenient carrying bag that is made for it !

I have one of these for busking with my electric sax, Cant recommend it enough. Get the Lithium Bats they last a long time
Hey bud, nice one, that's great to hear. Very good call on the lithium batteries!!
Forgive my ignorance as English is not my native language, but what is "basking/busking"
@@realhomestudioofficial oohh.. Okay.. Thank you! Salamat po!
Constructive criticism on a 4 year old video, if you're still making them: Try getting the product that you're reviewing in the frame.
Yes indeed Roy it could have been better but we've all got to start somewhere! I've learned a lot since then. Wishing you a great day
Shame we didn't get to hear it ,good otherwise
