  • (#KWTX) - A statue and storyboard in memory of #TempleTexas resident Chris Johnson will be unveiled at Pepper Creek Trail on Aug. 23, provided his father can raise the funds to build it.
After Gary Johnson’s adopted son, Chris Johnson, died in a motorcycle accident on Thanksgiving in 2022, Gary wanted to make sure his son didn’t end up as just another statistic. That’s when he approached the city’s parks and recreation board about honoring Chris’ memory of community service.
The city approved a statue of Chris with a storyboard to be placed at Pepper Creek Trail, a trail Chris frequented. But Gary would have to pay for the statue.
In 2023, Gary created the Christopher Johnson Foundation. He used the foundation to involve the community behind Chris’ values and raise the money for the statue.
