This is actually a portrayal of Soni Mahewal tragic love story. Soni uses the help of a clay pot (ghariya) to cross the river to meet Mahewal and one night Soni's family tampers with the Ghariya - that's the part in the song where Ali Noor says 'Kachi meri mitti, Kacha mera anjam ni, Mena kaam ni.' But Soni cannot back off in love over the fear of dying crossing the river. She wears her jewellery (Wekh challa pendiyan aan) - and she leaves for her final journey. She says Mahweal will see my life but not betrayal on my part as testimony of her love. A pure masterpiece - this is.
Actually the word is "Challan" not challa(ring).Here Challan is used in sense of waves which is derived from word "Chall" which is Punjabi word for flood or storm. In the song Sohni is saying to Ghara(clay pot) that: Vekh chhallan paindiyan nah chhaddeen dil ve Ajj mahiwaal noon main jaana mil ve Meaning: Look, the waves are splashing higher and higher But don’t lose heart I must go to meet mahiwal this night at any cost

So smoothing feeling pure love its so immensly deep that pitcher can't control to express itself that it is just a mud pitcher and it cannot do what she want even if it can agree to do so. Ok I came out of my hole for this one. When it came out it wowed me big time, JoJo I agree with you on voice texture and skills of Shilpa, and I remember commenting on the original upload, praising her and for me she stood out throughout. We all know the story but the lyrics go straight to heart, the dialogue between Sohni and garrah, what an interesting way to narrate! Knowing that it was Noori’s mother who played Sagar Veena makes it super emotional, and man she played. Love the part in the end when Ali and Shilpa were singing and tempo/ energy was high, beautiful. Without being cheesy I wanna say how creative we can be working together.
