I just looked that up, looks great! Could have boards straddling the benches to make a sleeping deck. Is there a row lock hole at the back for sculling? If not, you could attach some wood at the back with a hole in to take a row lock (like the walker bay 8 in my sculling tutorial vid). I like how you could put a bench plank across at any point in your boat, for optimal seating when sculling. Would probably be really efficient and powerful
wow i did not know there was a sailing option for this boat do you by chance have any pictures of that ? google wasnt as helpful as i hoped and i was wondering what that indentation was since i got the boat but yea a mast makes perfekt sense
Hey man I watched your videos a while back with great interest! Nice to hear from you. If you Google sportyak 213 sail kit, there is a forum thread with messages from 2008 where someone shares a pic of an orange boat with a white sail. The rig seems to have been a Lateen type, with leeboards either side. Simple and effective. A diy version could be made
Adventuress video. Would you say £120 for a second hand Sportyak 213 no oars, I would say well used but perfect working order light pink would be a good price what roughly is the second hand market like for these boats? Thanks Louis.
Hi Louis! Very tempting. I think they were going for around 450 - 500 when still being made new, so as long as the boat has no holes, cracks, bad lumps or very deep gouges, I’d say that was good value. Check also the perimeter flat area with the holes, to make sure the holes aren’t propagating any cracks. So yes that sits nicely low in the 213 pre owned market I’d say. Any working 213 is worth having… such a beautiful and practical little boat. If it doesn’t have rowlocks, get yourself some from Tahe, along with some oars. Put one on the back and u can do sculling as well. It sculls like a champ. Also great for poling in the shallows when standing. Also, put a camping chair in the middle and you can draw-scull it like a coracle!
Awesome video I have a Sundolphin Sport Yak 2 similar 7 foot setup but it has seating on front and back. Looks like I should try sculling!
