@@aimanjalil8302 this is a final round, they've collected points before this. So they've got places they deserve based on every round, not the finals only
BROTHERJGRJI! That’s not true, plus, it wouldn’t make any sense and would be unfair to Evan. Since Evan won in 2018, he didn’t have to go through the prelims or semi finals in 2019.
Evan should have been docked for the vain trite tripe that was his (hopefully) first attempt at writing a song. Why would you write a world class yo-yoing routine to beginner music? How can I make that call? I'm a duffer at yoyo but a professional at music. Leave the music to the professionals, unless this is your last minute in the limelight of your life and you want the platform I guess.
Jim Maneri we should count ourselves lucky we have Mr. Gatekeeper here telling us what constitutes real music. We might as well be blind in the dark without His divine judgement. Shame on Evan for trying to dabble in the forbidden arts of musicality. He should have been DISQUALIFIED. At the very least. FLOGGED even! Dragged across the village square NAKED! Preposterous. His lack of respect is unequaled among mortals.
Evan performed way beyond a yoyoer. His performance this year is more smooth and entertaining than last year. His new tricks are mind blowing. Even though he missed the hooks, he should be the champ anyway. Gentry played well and smooth but he wasn’t that great as Evan. What I think is Gentry is a little bit overrated. Anyway, thank you Evan ! Thanks for the stunning farewell performance!
Evan should have been docked for the vain trite tripe that was his (hopefully) first attempt at writing a song. Why would you write a world class yo-yoing routine to beginner music? Gentry's choreography was next level. Evan was mugging for the camera. And a lame moonwalk while doing a trick seen on the beginner's ladder is a waste of all our time. The judges got it right, and it should have been much more than .3 of sa point.
@@rochansanga1842 no like gentry overrated asf. tbh like yeah, he has really impressive bangers and a slick and fast style. his style just gets old so quick imo - and it's just such an obvious fact that his whole repertoire is based around competition play and clicks ... and idk about y'all, but that's a huge no-no for me-me that moonwalk tho hahahahaha pretty cringe tbh but oh well 🤷♀️
Takeshi Matsuura's 2018 World Final and Evan Nagao's 2018 US National performances are the ones that stand out to me as my all time faves especially because how hyped the crowds were. To me, that's the type of play that will draw outside interest and if you want to grow the sport you need to revamp the scoring system to reward riskier and more methodical play. It looks the weighting of the tricks doesn't truly reflect how hard they are. Harder elements are thrown in more for the sake of variety rather than the reward you get for hitting them. I equate it to figure skating, most people who watch it during the Olympics don't know what half the tricks are but you when you watch certain performances you just know you just witnessed something special. That being said, it's sad how people are hating on Gentry, he won fair and square within the current format and rules. Rules changes would change how players construct their performances and elite guys like Gentry will still be at the top.
Harder elements are put in to score more tho, a 2.5 would click two to most judges where as a regular hook would click 1. The judging system is very rewarding of harder big tricks especially the past couple years
@@chrisgodsey8481 I think the weighting scale is very narrow, it's either 1 or 2 clicks. In this example, a 3.5 hook will score the same as a 2.5 hook, so you would have to weigh up the risk and reward for doing 3.5 hook (or similar difficulty trick) or do something else thats faster/safer. I would like to add Zach Gormley 2015 World final to the list as well, that was an insane freestyle.
Gentry had many times over better choreography to the music, and knows how to get clicks. The judges got it right, and yes they should revamp the scoring system to give art more emphasis, which would have made Gentry score even more.
And crowd hype at the event is baloney. I was in the 3rd row for finals, and no one live can see what is really happening the way the camera or judges can. They whoop for showy baloney because they can't see the majority of what's going on, and of course they whoop for their friends. The judges got it right.
Well damn... Given the fact that I very rarely get the chance to go to yoyo competitions, I'm glad I got to meet Evan at least once at worlds a few years back. Awesome guy. Just awesome. Really going to miss watching his freestyles. If what you do to whatever you end up doing in life is comparable to what you did to the yoyo world, you're going to be a huge success. Good luck man we all love you❤️

Wow Evan, that's some moving routine you got. Last year, you showed great respect for your rival by stressing that Takeshi deserved it as much as you do, and this year, it's still the same, you deserved to win it as much as Gentry did. Good luck on your future endeavors although i do hope that this is not the last we've seen of you in yoyoing
I fucking love Gentry, and I think he's the best "competitive" yoyo'er on earth. He knows how to win. But god DAMN this was emotional, and imo the absolute best performance of the year.
Justin Dauer no? How come? The only difference between Evan and Gentry was consistency. Gentry landed every trick he threw, Evan missed lots. He probably would have won had he been more consistent. Edit: proven false by Evan. Disregard this comment ;)
