Thanks Daniel.. I just got a Yamaha FC7 pedal for my Yamaha MODX and wanted to return it because it was too heavy but after watching this video I think I’ll keep it .
The m-audio pedal works fine for volume control as it works like a volume knob, but it’s a cumbersome on off switch. If what you are changing is on/off the smaller sustain like pedals are much better as they are spring loaded so hit it once and it changes unlike the m-audio ex-p where you have to push it down with your toes and then down with your heel to get it to be a switch.
Thank you very much this was a good explanation. Planning to switch my old S25 to a Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S49 MK2 and I have an unused Mission Engineering EP25-Pro Aero GC. The EP25-Pro Aero is more a guitar FX expression pedal. I wonder if it will work?
I was sad that the MODX doesn't support aftertouch but realized "wait a minute- expression pedal" it's a cool type of product that makes a lot of sense
What is the difference between Volume vs Expression vs Wah vs Anything else similar? What do they do technically It? It would also be easier for me to understand what it is doing by demonstrating with clean tones and the same notes for each mode.
Hi Daniel, I'm having trouble trying to find this: after all these years, foot pedal manufacturers still haven't made a spring loaded pedal where the heel is always stationary and always parallel to the floor but the toe part is lightly spring loaded or gravity corrected to basically follow your foot as it lifts off the pedal. When someone taps their feet, the heel is always planted on a non moving surface and the toe hits the floor, it's odd for guitarists to have to use rotate their foot again on a controller just to make it return to 0 levels or vs versa. Is there such a pedal? Ideally I think the heel should be it's own non moving piece level with the floor and the toe area just just follows your foot as you tap it.
Hi GameArtsCafe. While it doesn't work in every situation, a lot of times you can use the Roland DP-10 Sustain Pedal with Half Damper Control: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DP10--roland-dp-10-piano-style-sustain-pedal-with-half-damper-control Just set it to Continuous and plug it into the Expression (or any Continuous Controller) input jack. -_Daniel_
Cheers for this, I've been looking for "what are the other two pedals on a piano for?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Danilliam Illustrious Dominance - (should be on google have a look ) ? It is a great one off guide for discovering how to learning piano fast minus the hard work. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my buddy got cool success with it.
Will the M-Audio do ALL those different things, (expression, registration, expression assign, looper, rotaary etc). on the Yamaha MODX or does it only do the expression thing?
Hi TheBabypod. You can assign what the Expression pedal modulates to pretty much any Control Destination available. And you can do that independently per Part, and per Performance. -_Daniel_
Hi MrBeatles01. If, by "expression", you mean using a controller pedal to move parameters other than Volume... then yes, you would use an actual volume pedal connected to the keyboard's Audio Outs, and an Expression pedal connected to the Expression jack. Thanks for watching!
The pedal doesn't go from 0V to 5V or 10V, it goes from 0V to whatever voltage it gets fed - because, as you stated just one sentence before, it does not have its own power supply. 😉
Greetings Sir: I bought the FC-7 volume pedal. I have the psr sx700. I had a volume pedal before, and all I did was to put it into my psr 510 and I cold increase my volume with the foot pedal. I want nothing else. Every time I search for this instruction I get a whole lot of everything else. Kind Regards
Why 5 pin din midi jack is not used instead of TRS jack for expression pedal? Is it for powering the pedal besides transmission of midi data or there is something else?
Hi fahimdawer. You could use the MIDI In for Expression *if* you had an Expression pedal that had MIDI Out and could send CC# 7 (for Volume) or CC#11 (for Expression). But it's far easier to simply plug an Expression pedal (that ends in a 1/4" TRS plug) into the Continuous Controller jack (also known as an Expression jack, or Volume jack, depending on what it typically does). -_Daniel_
If I purchase the FC7 for my Yamaha Genos and I’m using a VST library in Cubase 12 Pro will that offer me more expression using a VST instrument besides the instruments in the Genos.

Hi I have a Roland Juno DS i already have a sustain pedal but i need an expression pedal which one should i get Should i get the Roland EV-5 Expression Pedal?
Hi mrsoulpoint. A Sustain pedal (for an electronic keyboard) is a lever that is pressed with the foot. It is typically used to keep notes playing as if you were still holding down the keys. An Expression pedal is a rocker that can be tipped forwards (toe down) or backwards (heel down), and is often used to control volume, filter sweeps, or basically any parameter that can be modulated by Expression. Hi shelly0624. The Nektar NX-P will work well as an expression pedal. It obviously won't work as an audio volume pedal since it doesn't have audio Ins and Outs, but it does have a switch that helps to make it compatible as an expression with many devices. Thanks for watching!
