    The m-audio pedal works fine for volume control as it works like a volume knob, but it’s a cumbersome on off switch. If what you are changing is on/off the smaller sustain like pedals are much better as they are spring loaded so hit it once and it changes unlike the m-audio ex-p where you have to push it down with your toes and then down with your heel to get it to be a switch.

    Hi Daniel, I'm having trouble trying to find this: after all these years, foot pedal manufacturers still haven't made a spring loaded pedal where the heel is always stationary and always parallel to the floor but the toe part is lightly spring loaded or gravity corrected to basically follow your foot as it lifts off the pedal. When someone taps their feet, the heel is always planted on a non moving surface and the toe hits the floor, it's odd for guitarists to have to use rotate their foot again on a controller just to make it return to 0 levels or vs versa. Is there such a pedal? Ideally I think the heel should be it's own non moving piece level with the floor and the toe area just just follows your foot as you tap it.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Год назад +3

      Hi GameArtsCafe. While it doesn't work in every situation, a lot of times you can use the Roland DP-10 Sustain Pedal with Half Damper Control:
      www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DP10--roland-dp-10-piano-style-sustain-pedal-with-half-damper-control
      Just set it to Continuous and plug it into the Expression (or any Continuous Controller) input jack.

    Why 5 pin din midi jack is not used instead of TRS jack for expression pedal? Is it for powering the pedal besides transmission of midi data or there is something else?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Месяц назад +1

      Hi fahimdawer. You could use the MIDI In for Expression *if* you had an Expression pedal that had MIDI Out and could send CC# 7 (for Volume) or CC#11 (for Expression). But it's far easier to simply plug an Expression pedal (that ends in a 1/4" TRS plug) into the Continuous Controller jack (also known as an Expression jack, or Volume jack, depending on what it typically does).

      Hi Ruxi Wang. The Next Step pedal by EHX sends from 0-+5 volts of CV from its 9v battery whenever you use 1/4" TS cable, instead of a 1/4" TRS cable that's typically used for "expression":

      The Behringer FCV100 Dual-Mode Expression Pedal can also send 0-+5v the the "5V" switch is engaged:

    What is different between SUSTAIN PEDAL and EXPRESSION PEDAL?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  5 лет назад +3

      Hi mrsoulpoint. A Sustain pedal (for an electronic keyboard) is a lever that is pressed with the foot. It is typically used to keep notes playing as if you were still holding down the keys. An Expression pedal is a rocker that can be tipped forwards (toe down) or backwards (heel down), and is often used to control volume, filter sweeps, or basically any parameter that can be modulated by Expression. • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Месяц назад

      Hi ceyhanyzc. It could be a couple of things. First, that happens when you have the wrong type of expression pedal. For example, if you use a Yamaha FC7 pedal on an input that requires a non-Yamaha pedal, you'll get this behavior. Another trickier thing is if Expression (as a source) is not set to modulate 100% in a Modulation Matrix. Hope one of these two things helps.

      Any of the Boss volume pedals can be used as an expression pedal. The FV500L is designed for keyboards, so it has stereo in and out. You can still only control one device with it when using it as an expression pedal. Thanks for your interest!

    @sweetwater Daniel (or anybody else who has some knowledge about this), are there midi expression/controller pedals with MIDI DIN (5-pin) connection cable? I want to connect multiple midi pedals to my Motu MIDI Xpress XT MIDI interface to be able to controll multiple parameters of my vst instruments at the same time.
    The above mentioned MIDI interface does not have a MIDI TRS input.
    My future midi keyboard (Kawai VPC1) seems not to have input for expression pedal. It has 2 inputs for "Soft" and for "Damper/Sostenuto - can a TRS-jack expression be plugged into one of those inputs? And even if it would be possible, it would only take 1 single pedal. I would like to have multiple expression pedals.
    The VPC1 does not have pitch-bend whe neither. So for this I would need a midi pedal with middle rest position - to travel both ways. Is there such a pedal?

      Hi Lorenzo. You can connect a Yamaha FC-7 Foot Controller to either the Foot Controller 1 or 2 jack. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_

    i've been googling a lot... what i'm looking for in computer graphics is called a lerp: (Signal_A*foot)+(Signal_B*(1-foot)) .. it's basically 2 volumes controlled by a single pedal. help

      he sorta talks about that around 7:00 (the superknob on that patch is lerping between the piano and electric piano). I guess it depends on what keyboard you have, what patches it has, and how much control it gives you over the mapping of the expression pedal

      Is there a way to control the volume of 2 devices by one pedal?

    I have two questions.
    The Boss FV 500L need a power supply?
    The Boss FV 500L expression its compatible with Nord Stage?

      Hi Carpegiane. The VF 500 pedals are passive (don't need power). The 1/4" TRS jack should work fine with a Nord when using a 1/4" TRS cable between them. Thanks for watching!

    I saw this on some keyboard specs > "2 pedal inputs : expression, universal". Does those last two things mean the same?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Frederic. I suspect that universal implies either 1) It can take a TRS Expression or TS Switch. 2) The control signal that's generated can be chosen by you. 3) Both things are true.

    I use the FC7 with my MODX. When I change patches the sound comes out with full volume even though I don't have the pedal on full. Is there a way to switch so the volume does not play in full volume each time I change patches?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  4 года назад +2

      Hi Bernie. That would be because each preset has its own stored Volume level. See if there's a global override of per-Preset Volume. That's what would be required to do what you want. Thanks for watching!
