  • We continue our series on the off-road opportunities available in and around Joshua Tree National Park, this time focusing on Berdoo Canyon. This is an easy run for our 2021 Ford Bronco, and for most 4X4's and high clearance vehicles, with just a couple of technical sections. But the scenery is great, and a side-trip to historic Berdoo Camp is a must-see. Ride along with Steffie and Dusty as we document the length of Berdoo Canyon, from the shotgun craziness of the Dillon Road entrance to Pleasant Valley inside Joshua Tree National Park.

    Just wondering... Did you ever install lockers?
    Thanks for the video. Real nice.

      Not yet. That project has been waiting until this week, when I have some time off work :) We'll have the cameras rolling!

      Ford sells a rear axle with lockers for the Bronco for $2000. Are you installing that one? If yes, please do a detailed remove and replace. You would be the first on RUclips. Thanks for all you do.@@HorsinAround

      I bought a set of used axles out of a Badlands and re-geared them to 5.13. So the install process will be the same as if I'm doing the complete assembly from Ford. We will of course film it. We were going to do it this week while I've been on holiday vacation but we've been working on our car trailer instead (re-paint, re-deck, replacing fenders, etc.)

    Are you using a GoPro as a dash cam ?? If not what kind of camera do you use?

    • @dustysharp
      @dustysharp 9 месяцев назад

      No I have the dash cam that Ford Accessories sells. It’s a Thinkware and I used FordPass points to get it. It’s only 1080p so I would like to upgrade to one with 4K and image stabilization. GoPro would be great in that spot but I don’t think I could set it up to automatically come on when I start up, and cycle over old clips as new ones are recorded, which is a necessity for a dash cam.

    It does NOT supply water for the Coachella Valley, the Colo. Riv. Aqueduct was never intended to serve the Coachella Valley, it is a source of water for replenishing the aquifer towards the west end of the valley, but that water is traded for N. Cal. water allotments, due to no viable way to get said N. Cal. water to the valley... sections of the aqueduct are close to the surface where washes cross over it near siphons.
    Unfortunately the first mile or so of the of Berdo Canyon has been trashed by illegal dumping and some individuals not hauling away their target materials, ammo containers and brass from target shooting...

    How many miles do you have on your Bronco now? Have you had any warranty repairs? I have a white 22 BB that’s transmission sounded like a rock tumbler from day one. Ford replaced some synchros and it seems to have fixed the issue.

      We recently passed 40K miles. We haven't had to do any warranty repairs. The transmission hasn't had any issues though I do have the faint noise from it on start-up on cold mornings, that has been documented extensively on the forums. Yours must have been much worse than mine, so I'm glad they took care of it for you. In our case, it's just a minor annoyance that I can easily dismiss. Whatever was causing it hasn't gotten worse or manifested into any real problems. I do have an extended service plan out to 60K that covers clutch replacement, so I'll be sure to do that before it expires.

    thx for the trail ride! looking at trails to test my sprinter 170"

      I think a Sprinter would do fine on it, but that one pinch point you saw on the video might want rock rails depending on your tire and lift situation. There are several great campsites to stay the night in your van, just before the trail enters the park boundaries (where dispersed camping isn’t permitted).
