this is lovely! but is there a way to diy those buttons if i can't get a button making kit? i've got a lot of those old anime pins, maybe i can reuse them?..
You can cover a flat shank button with fabric by cutting a circle of fabric a little bit bigger than the button, and using a gathering stitch around the edge of the fabric to pull it tight around said button, here's a tutorial : www.instructables.com/id/Sew-Useful-Fabric-Covered-Buttons-NO-KITS!!!/
I really recommend to anyone with pain problems, to making a round pillow the size of your head. It can really help with sleeping, to be able to just boost your head up, without having to move everything else. :)
My grandmother made a circle cushion for me when I was a child and it's been an obsession for me now, especially since the original cushion had to be thrown away since it was so old. I've been looking for circle cushions forever and found this video after teaching myself how to sew last year. Thank you for this, now I can make a cushion that reminds me of my grandmother again ☺️
It would be cool to do this but have the button be the color of the second pillow you make. So if you put them on different chairs or something they still tie together. Accent color kinda thing?
There's 2 types of speciallised needles that are made for going through thick cushions: Doll making and Matress needles. They're very long and sturdy, the matress needles are perhaps too long for these cuchions though XD but if you were making a cylindrical cusshion that's the one to use. Bougt mine on Ebay a few years ago for plushie making.
"... largest circular object I could find in my house..." - love it! I just had to cut a couple of 610 mm diameter, and some quarter circles of 424 mm radius from some upholstering fabric. I used a piece of string with small loops at each end, one where I could push a finger down on the centre point, the other for the marking pencil. Works like a charm. (I don't have any circular hats at all... But now that I am thinking about circular objects, there's a fair assortment of bicycle rims and tyres of various sizes in the garage...)
Hi! I have been sent over by a nice person on Instagram, hearing I was disabled and love to sew! And after 37 seconds I was "yeah! Someone you can watch and listen to for hours ! Either making things or just getting distracted from chronic pain!"🤩👍
@@AnnikaVictoria24 no problem! Ya welcome! I am just turning out comment messages from RUclips, because some people don't like other people's opinions and think they need to start wars, so happy my comment gave you joy!
"Maybe if I add them one by one he won't notice..." Literally me trying to buy more nice plates and silverware and praying my boyfriend doesn't call me out lmao
Adorable--you and the cushions! Love your snood, too, which adds to the retro vibe. I grew up with cushions like these on the furniture, both round and square--they were still popular in the 1960's.
I forgot to watch this vid of yours last year bc I didn't know I would want to make cushions turns out this is exactly the tutorial I needed right now (making my cat a scratching post/sleeping post/side table thing and the pillow is to make it comfier.. I'm extra yes.. but she deserves it..) so thank u
So lovely! I hope you can get plenty of projects from your scrap pile done! I have been totally trying to figure out how to use my scrap pile for home decor projects!
I subscribed last week and oh my god I love your channel. I recently made a rectangle skirt using your tutorial. Thank you for helping us get started with sewing.
I love these! Being stuck in thanks to being chronically ill sucks. It's hard to motivate but the sewing challenge will help! Socially distract hugs! 💜💜💜
Guuuuuuurll. You nail it all the time. love your little songs. especially the one in the end card! Also: nice pillows. :D One could also mark the middle of it when the cushion is still unstuffed, that might be easier.
I'm moving into my first apartment soon, and my boyfriend and I would HATE to move my tons of unused fabric. So I'm using it to make house decorations. Like this round cushion ♥♥
If I'm hand sewing something that has lots of tension (or needs a super strong sewing cotton) I use dental floss. I've fixed torn parts of tents with dental floss n a large upholstery type needle. Never had it break yet :)
Yesss, those cushions look hella cute. I've been practising my sewing skills and trying to actually use all the cute cheap fabric I've bought in the last few months. Blood knit fabric! Why's it got to be so cute and nice feeling, but such a pain to work with? Spotlight needs to stop having sales so I stop buying their entire store. Anyway, I'm making a dressing gown from a pattern, because patterns scare me and this one was meant to be super simple and beginner friendly. Ha! And to think this was meant to be a stepping stone to me making some sort of rainbow, circle-skirt type of Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. That one is going to have to wait a while, methinks. Oh also, I highly recommend spending the $50 to get one of those giant fold-up tables from Bunnings/Kmart if you don't have a nice big table surface for all the fabric laying and pattern tracing etc. I learned that one the hard way from the first pattern I tried, a pair of shorts. Laying it out on a tiled floor and trying to move around that just makes you feel old and sore if you're over 30. You've inspired me to try making my own underwear too. I bought nice stretchy lace (which was 10x cheaper than stretch interfacing), and I've put aside a pair of undies to copy when I've finished this dressing gown/robe.
Thank you so much for making this video! It was very easy to follow and helped me make my first pillow!!! 🙏🙏🙏 I always have trouble following instruction videos so this one was such a delight to find!
another way to make "buttons" is to gather a circle around a small coin, and then sew it on with the gather at the back. it's obviously not going to work for clothes, but look great on cushions!
A ribbon works nicely, thread it once, add your button and then go back out the underside should have to tails you can tie off, and then add the second button. This method is used on big cushion.
Very nice! I am just now starting to sew and dabble with fabric and sewing. I was wondering is the isolation challenge over? I would imagine so since this video was from April. Are there any other challenges out there geared for beginners?

I've also seen people cover coins!
You could try the historical medieval technique for round buttons
A C do you have a link?
I gotta see this anime button pillow though...
The pillows were so cute and the sewcial isolation songs were too funny.
I loved the whole video, but that last line of the closing song really got me! I always adore your humor!
heheheh ;)
@@AnnikaVictoria24I also spotted some My Hero Academia - truly a woman of culture.

I needed something to keep busy, so I learned how to use my sewing machine and I'm making masks!
ps, I'd be glad to share some tips and tricks that I've learned!
I’m a big fan of all the little songs you’ve been doing lately

Of course :P hahaha

That ending was like Spanish inquisition. I wasn't expecting that :D
The isolation songs are the best! So funny!
Looking cute! That hairdo rocks. Loving the songs too
Hi Annika!! Wonderful vlog.. Love the idea of small pillows & your singing is spot on.... 💜💜💜🧵🧵🧵

Very true, good tip!! :)
Alternatively you can put fabric around a very large coin and use that as a button

Annika you have a very nice singing voice. I appreciate your little rap/song at the end too that rhymed.
Best thing is the song in the end. MC Viccy, we need an album!!
Those pillows look so cute and comfy and also that ending song was fantastic xD
The string could probably also be upholstery thread as that is hella strong for stuff like this, but they cute!
Adorable pillows :) I haven't made any velvet ones, but I did embroider some poly-cotton and made pillows out of those.
LOOOOOOOVED THE SONG! Your voice is so nice! And I'll try some round cushions too!

At this point with the timelaps songs and these you could put out an EP (and i would stream it every day)
