    Ive been a nurse for 17 yrs now. I will tell you as ive told anyone who asks about nursing: Nursing school was the hardest thing ive ever had to do! I have been in the war zone overseas as a Medic, that DID NOT COMPARE😢. I finally took care of myself and decided to complete my Master's and got my NP. THAT WAS EVEN WORST😂 But i was determined. If it is meant for you my dear, it will happen. Gods timing is perfect. He will bring you through the fire without the smell of smoke. Stay encouraged, and thanks for sharing.

    BSN RN here! Yes, it's mentally draining, toxic work environment, it does pay the bills but is it worth your peace of mind? Your mental health is everything. I have some friends who left the profession all together. I am on my way to other things, looking into NP and other less taxing profession .......If you choose to stay in the program, be ready to work your ass off and I mean it!!!! If you think you can cheat your way out of nursing school, good luck because you have a board to pass in the end. I still have friends who are trying to pass it 2-3 years post grad. You get some good and bad days in the profession but the bad outweigh the good period. I push through it because I come from nothing, and I am the only one supporting myself, no mother and father. They have passed away. Nursing was my way out to support myself. I would choose something else if I could do it all over again. There are so many medical professions.

      Hi, my daughter is 24 years old and has her BSN RN and I was a medical assistant and phlebotomist for many years so she was already exposed to the healthcare environment through me! However , I always wanted to get into the nursing program! She would tell me, mom choose something else! I said if I don’t do nursing I will go to a social worker program! I know how hard it is and my daughter cried when she passed her NCLEX! She said mom it was really hard 😢 she said you should take something that still allows you to be with my sister which is my 6 yr old daughter! She doesn’t want me to be overworked or deal with the toxic and draining environment! I have to make a decision soon!

      I agree nursing school raised my bp and gave me anxiety which I never had before at 24, I was going to drop out in 3rd semester but everyone told me to stuck it out and I graduated .. nursing was a gift and a curse to me it’s stressful but when life handed me expensive curveballs I was able to bounce back that’s why I say it’s a gift and a curse… My AAS program was stressful but 11 yrs in nursing has been good for me but I am now looking to pivot to part time and branch off into my passion of writing…. I did not work during my associates and got my BSN I worked 3 days a week so I can do school work and relax… in a accelerated program they strongly advise no working because it’s 12-16 months non stop I think that’s why u had more stressful experience those 20 hrs u worked you should’ve been relaxing and studying .. my roommate had to quit her CNA job in 3rd semester because those 2 12’s she worked she was exhausted and couldn’t study and almost failed her class…in the health professions I recommend do not work for the initial degree for the advanced degree like BSN , or NP…doesn’t make sense to fail out over a minimum wage job we have to think of the grand scheme of things in our school if you failed u had to wait one year to take the class over and that’s if they let you back in ….. lucky I didn’t drop out at 24 in nursing school because my previous degree was English and the pay was horrible .. with nursing I can go part time and pursue my other interests I haven’t worked overtime in almost 7 years and it’s made my life much easier

I just cant stand going to the school & being in a cohort full of shady people & people who dont care for me.. im just unhappy.. like i had an exam and failed it on purpose cause i didnt care to study at all cause they have drained me.. they haf a meeting with me trying to get me to stay they even brought in a professor over the PTA program... and im like i been battling this for 2 months i made up my mind.. i dont needa conference.. i talked to myself, God, and whoever else listend about it.,, my heart and mind was set on leaving.. our situation is very similar but im leaving the OTA program.. i wanna help people but not the way OTA wants or does. Plus i live in memphis and i have to commute to jackson tn everyday girl... when i say i was sick like teally sick when it came time to come to that school I was sick. Nursing school and nursing has always been challenging for over 100 years. When I went to nursing school in the 1980's. I worked full time also. I was bullied by instructors. I was pregnant. My father died. I had no emotional support from family. I had a lot of mental health moments. I decided I was not going to let anyone stop me from achieving my goal. I did not talk about nursing school at work. At nursing school I did not talk about work. I also never slept or hardly ate. I did a lot of meditation to stay focus. I had a instructor who told me I would never make it as a nurse. My baby's daddy told me to quit nursing school marry him and raise the baby. It's 1924. I still working as an RN. 39yrs and still going strong. I never retired. I worked many area of nursing. ICU's tele, medsurg, homecare, private duty and long term care. Night shift is the best for me. I love my job and cannot imagine doing anything else. I ignore my coworkers toxic personalities. I focus on the patient. "Tired" I don't put that work in my vocabulary. life too short. My best advice is to find a Part time nursing program...every program isnt set up the same..keep pushing forward.

      @meekazanielle Yes, much more solid path with multiple opportunities. My husband is a icu nurse manager and he has grown leaps and bounds past me professionally, has done so many different things with his license..
      Meanwhile here I am in neutral 😐 the therapy field is just way too specific for the skills to be utilized in different capacities outside of clinical settings..its a trap lol like a pigeon hold!! Proud of you for opening your eyes and seeing the bs from now. I am in my mid 30s now so the appeal to take on another program just isn't there..still scrambling in that regard.
      But Congratulations honey on your new endeavors 🎊 👏🏼🫶🏽

    Imagine how some of the administrators feel. Like they have to contantly make sure compliances are up to date and being followed, update policies, govern human resources, handle financials of the facility(everything costs money!!), dealing with collections, patient financials, Ethics, staying up to date with Economics, new diseases that arise, etc. Alot of us Admin dont just stare at the computer we have to work and actually research, brainstorm, do certain repetitive actions depending on the admin role. Girl its alot. We may not do hard labor but our brains does it for us and yes Mental Health can arise from all of that especially if things arent going the way it should.

    Your experience is incredibly similar to mine during my OTD program. I lasted 15 months of the 3 year program and felt so much shame and low self-esteem for leaving but I just couldn't do it anymore. My mental health has been so much better and my relationship with God has blossomed; I've been an agnostic Atheist for most of my life but lately I've been drawn to religion. Quitting school has been among the biggest blessing of my life 🙏🏻 I hope my relationship with God with strengthen as time goes on.

    I love when people put their mental health first. I am aimijg to getbinto nursing to work on the clinical side of research. What i dont understand is why some nurses work 4+ 12 hrs shifts oer week. Some even work at 2 different hospitals 5 or 7 days per week. Why? But the finish about it being hard.

    So glad I stumbled on your video. Thank you for sharing your journey, I felt like I related so much to what you were saying. How quickly that emotional and physical burnouts can hit and the lack of eating was me too. I personally struggled with panic attacks and intense anxiety after a few family members passed years ago. I recently returned to college, and starting my 2nd month in my OTA program. I've been trying to find balance with studying and keeping a life for myself through this process. Right now I've been struggling with documentation. I feel like I am over complicating the SOAP note. Any advice for a new student?
    Thanks again,

    • @meekazanielle
      @meekazanielle  Год назад +2

      I understood where I went wrong in the nursing program so going into the OTA program, I tried not to make the same mistake. I continued to use a planner, I would write my due dates on the calendar and plan my mini study sessions throughout the week ( I would study / review no more than 1 hour). My weekends, I tried to keep majority of the day to myself by not spending no more than 3 hours on school. It would vary depending on if I had an exam that following week. Far as SOAP notes, please don’t sweat it, you will not use after graduation. You most like won’t see it on the cota board exam either. Just remember the basics S( subjective-what the patient said) O(observation, what did you see the patient do) A( assessment) P (plan, goals)

    The fact that your instructor suggested that you take sleeping pills is absurd. Nursing school is horrible. Iam so happy that you put yourself first and knew that your mental health was more important. I come out next year and even though I have been in healthcare for 3+ decades and have 2 degree under my belt. Nothing compares to going through a nursing program. Much success in your new profession

      Great advice! I agree because occupational therapy isn't it long term..its a dead end profession with very little ability to use those silly skills elsewhere..its sad tbh..as a Registered Occupational Therapist I regret my decision to leave nursing..I got into PA later on in life but my mom died 12 days into the program...so at that point I just moved on but that gnawing knowing therapy ain't it hasn't stopped...
      My hubby is a RN..he left Physical therapy school as soon as he did his observation hours and saw the foolishness lol
