Idk why because i love fuji native lenses but this equivalent version of the viltrox physically looks nicer to me on the fuji camera body than the fuji lens itself. I know this isn't important for the image quality but it makes me feel and look pro when i do portrait sessions.
laughed out loud in the beginning as it echoed my thoughts at the same time. Man this is fabulous news. I am in love with the IQ of those shots. Cannot wait to get it
Even though there was a bug in their Beta firmware, as a marketing opportunity to show turnaround response and ease of updating via a standard USB cable, as opposed to something like the Sigma dock, this has worked out rather well for them. The fact there is no aperture ring disturbs me somewhat though. Fuji has the advantage of being able to update firmware through the camera, which also means less chance of water getting in the lens via open ports. I don’t do enough portraiture, and not professionally, to justify this lens, as I either use my Canon or a manual Samyang 85mm f1.4 Canon mount adapted to Fuji. I’m glad to see a viable and now seemingly reliable third party AF lens for Fuji though.
Yeah, Viltrox 85mm is said to be great everywhere I look. Sadly, I'm not going to find out since I purchased the XF-90 before the Viltrox was released. Hopefully, they'll make more lenses. Many more lenses.
Great review, and fantastic they fixed it so quickly, definitely on my wants list, love the 56mm & 90mm, just cannot justify it, but this looks great. Also great to see AF support for Fujifilm from a third party manufacturer too.
@@gearreallydoesntmatter It's my birthday next month so I might just treat myself, although I did just get the excellent little Fuji 16mm F2.8, so I do have a new toy to keep me busy for the moment. :-)
Thank you very much! 85mm f1.8 is a little too big for my taste on a cropped sensor but it'd be perfect on my Canon 5D Mark IV. Do you know if Viltrox has any plans in this direction?
My guess is that they went 85 since they made it in FF for Sony and its easier to compete with that focal length in Fuji since the 56 and 90 are so pricy. I guess Fuji might release a 85mm f2.8 WR one day if this sells a lot.

I didn't see any aperture ring on the lens. I am using XT-10 as my camera, so, can I change the aperture in the camera or it does not support manual aperture setting? Thank you!
I'm using the viltrox for 2 months now, its great and all but one thing that annoys me is that after using it with the aperture 1.8 I change my lens to 35mm f2 my screen keeps on blinking, I have to go back everytime and change the aperture of the viltrox to f2 and snap my 35mm f2 to get rid of the problem. What firmware version are you using? Mine had the 1.0.3 and I updated to the latest version and started noticing the symptoms you are reporting. I reverted firmware to the one listed above and issue is gone. Check your firmware and see if this applies.
Just note that if you remove the chatter you will sacrifice focus speed, its one of the reasons it does it.
@@gearreallydoesntmatter Would be a good idea to test the focusing speed on both firmware releases. I honestly didn't notice any lag going back to the old version, I wonder how battery life is affected by it too because it seems to be always trying to acquire focus.
I didn't see any aperture ring on the lens. I am using XT-10 as my camera, so, can I change the aperture in the camera or it does not support manual aperture setting? Thank you!
Yes you change the aperture just like you would a Fuji 27mm. With the back or front wheel.
@@gearreallydoesntmatter I see. thank you so much! I never have Fuji lens that doesn't have aperture dial before.
where is the purchase link ?
See pinned post.
Anyone here experience it too??? (Lens and camera has the latest firmware update)
Can't you just turn it off when changing the lens?
Where can I buy this lens?? I can't find it anywhere, I find only the manual focus lens
I found it available for pre-order in one of my local camera stores as well as on eBay.
Its suitable for fuji xt 200
I seem that I cant get the aperture to work on the X-T2. Any solutions to that or I have to wait for that firmware to be updated?
Should work just fine. I suggest emailing them, also have you set up the aperture control in the menu?
@@gearreallydoesntmatter Where in the settings for that?
Can i use this on fujifilm xe2? TIA for response
Cant see why not. Haven't used it on the Xe2 myself but the Xpro1 is older.
