- Fra McCann has been a republican activist for 50 years. He has given a lifetime of service to the struggle for freedom and independence and to his community.
Just before Christmas 2019 he was informed that he had terminal prostate cancer. In between periods of treatment Fra has continued to fulfil his duties as a member of the northern Assembly, representing his constituents and in the midst of a pandemic continuing to deal with issues affecting the people of west Belfast.
Several months ago he was interviewed by Joe Austin - in line with health restrictions in place at that time.
Fra’s indomitable strength of character, personal courage and deep commitment to Irish Republicanism shines through in his political activism. This video is a tribute to a Republican hero.
