I remember walking into the living room with my sister watching this exact scene. I never heard of the show & had absolutely no context whatsoever. I went from confused as hell to belly-laughing once the woman looked straight at the camera and said "I think my period's coming"
What a fantastic scene. A choreographed abstract personification. If only they would use this scene in sex education at our schools? Would make so much more sense to both sexes.
This little scene must be one of the most unsettling things Ive ever seen. Fleabags inner torture reflected in others on a tube . Fleabag screaming inside because of what she did to Boo. Fleabag has a nature of sleeping with guys for company. she doesn't want any of them but she constantly needs the feeling to be wanted and to not be alone. And what she did to Boo was jealousy. Boo was giving all her attention to someone else and not to fleabag The final line gives it away" I think i`m getting my period. " Hormones are fluctuating wildly and Fleabag would be more sensitive to emotion. And blaming being overly emotional on her menstrual cycle and not the inner feeling of how she screwed over her best friend
Fucking hell. As a man, getting sick (I recently got man flu) has made me emotionally weak and more susceptible to some of my darker thoughts which are a true reflection of how I feel, and I should probably delve deeper. When I'm feeling healthy it's easier to keep my guard up and create a narrative that suits my ego.
"Either everyone feels like this a little bit and they're just not talking about it ...or i am completely fucking alone." That is a line in season 1 episode 6 where she says this whilst talking to the Bank Manager. The feeling she is talking about in that scene is feeling like your body is unfuckable, useless, undesirable, essentially decaying against the grain of a misogynist, heteronormative, painful world where some of the only readily available human connection adults have is thru cheap hookups. She talks about how this feeling is eating her up inside; how she is secretly longing for a real connection even tho she doesnt kno how to do that and I think this scene is Phoebe Waller-Bridges visually showing us that everyone feels like this too. Everyone has this void in them EVEN MEN!! (bc patriarchy hurts us too!) Her saying "I think my period is coming" is reflective of the fact that she is basically gaslighting herself and her suffering is bc of HER: her hormones and her mind and her bullshit and NOT bc of a misogynist society, even tho--as shown is this scene--there are clear signs that everyone around her is hurting, but no one is talking about it.
@@hadasaronowicz1197 I love your theory but unfortunately I think it's the visualised cramps, maybe. But at first I thought it was about inner pain or something
Personally I think it reflects Fleabags actual mental torment and her struggles, but deflects and blames her emotions on her period. I also think it’s meant to show how before a period women are more emotional and it can have a bad impact on you especially if you already have issues with mental/emotional health

The best part is she looking at the camera is perfectly on beat

Anyone care to explain to me (a non-menstruator) what the hell the joke is?
I think it's meant to be random LOL as a menstruator I didn't see the correlation haha

It just represents period cramps and overwhelming emotions during menstruation
I personally get incredibly depressed and over emotional the last 2 days before getting my period ... so it's probably that..
Lol
I don't get it
Guess why
Something here seems a rip-off of Ally McBeal...
Stupid meaningles scene.
