A translator is different from a lawyer. If there was ever a translator during the time that the old lady affixed her signature, it was still unclear if the legalities and the depth of the contract binding was discussed clearly. Furthermore, NAS Daily shouldn't have come up with this contract in the first place specially that the culture is a sensitive issue. In short, this is pure exploitation.

He can have a translator and lawyer as well may mga abugado na ilocano, ibanag or taga kalingga kesa kamag anak ang nagtranslate kasi mahirap itranslate ang contract kung wala naman alam sa batas yung mag ta translate.

Regardless if there is a contract or none, Nas shouldn't have thought of doing that in the first place. He looks like taking advantage. He should had studied first the tradition and understand it. He made his self look bad and untrustworthy after building his integrity for many years. Unacceptable Nas, sorry.

Nas' team should have gone first through proper channels before anything else. Still, i wouldnt agree of Nas Academy setting up an online tutorial for apo whang od. An exclusive culture such as this is considered sacred especially by indigenous groups. Let's respect it for what it is.
Up to now,Nas Daily didn't even issue a statement rather posted a short video which may not viewed as valid as evidence with regards to the issue.
Nas Academy is clearly taking advantage of it. They should not sign the contract if there is no attorney present to explain what is in the contract, even if he has a video to prove the thumb mark.
Then why blame Nas Academy if there was a translator with them telling her family what's in the contract? If they truly have the morals, they should have not signed it to boot!
@@eyeofefil Why are you defending Nas Academy? Nas Academy should have not even engaged Whang Od into signing a contract without fully understanding any potential legal impediments. Nas Academy's lawyer (if ever there is any) must be aware of RA 8371 not unless they deliberately ignore it.

Nas Daily must have incredible convincing skills, or they were in some kind of pressure, they signed without fully understanding what they're getting themselves into. Translator was probably one of the locals, not a very efficient one.They're tribesmen, although able to communicate simple English, they were not very English literate to be able to fully understand writings in such formal documents. They probably didn't know they ought to be in the presence of a lawyer before signing binding contacts. They were kind of naive and gullible and Nas Daily was fully aware of this, he used their weakness to exploit them.. It was never a question of morals, they were led to believe it was for a great cause, or something..
A translator is very much different from an attorney...huge huge difference

My grandmother has that tattoo too coz she’s from kalinga and yes they call it “BATOK”she told us before that she belongs to the family who make those tattoos.I remember also that she ask us if we wanted to have those tattoos but no one of us her grandchildren wanted it but now that i’m an adult I feel I wanted it but i just don’t have a chance to go there.It’s really amazing how it last until she gets old it’s beautiful too.Seing this video I really my grandmother in heaven😢
Nas Daily is a vlogger, therefore when he and his team explained all his intentions or contracts to Whang Od I am sure the VLOGGER has full video. Video/s on the propositions, discussions and explanations the Nas Daily made to Whang Od. If Nas was honest about it, honest about his intentions I am sure he is showing now the full videos of the events now, NOT just small portion of the video where the old lady put thumb marked on the paper.

another problem if u look at the video of whang od affirming her thumb print. The contract is written in english only and he (nas) did not bother to translate it into apo whang od's dialect if he is really sincere about his intentions..another point if you apply in Gulf countries. the binding contract is written into 2 language Arabic and English so both parties could understand and agree on what has been signed. plus he bypass the National Commission for Indigenous People without consulting them. so for me its nas daily fault. this is not his own country and he did even bother to stop and think for a second to ask himself if he is going to violated a law in the country.

I am not againts foreign vloggers dito sa Pinas. But sometimes, you must need to know your limitations. Nagkainterest ang vlogger dahil malaki ang kikitain nya from that. Respect our culture as we respect yours. Wag nyong kunin or pag interesan at pagkaperahan ang sa amin.

I may be a fan of Nas Daily, but when hearing this controversy, I do not condone what he has done to my country's heritage without knowing the laws pertaining thereto, as I have understood what Professor Nestor Castro has said about the controversy.

I only know the basics of the issue, but I feel that whang od had people around her during the negotiations, contract signing, etc., and not one of them mentioned that you needed consent from the whole tribe? Ibig sabihin hindi talaga common knowledge ito. Am not a fan of Nas, but I can see how he could've missed that. They run a very successful and profitable tattoo business and get lots of attention and probably have had some offers before already, so I don't think whang's side is totally clueless about how these deals work, tapos biglang aatras because it's a heritage issue? I think nagkaissue lang yung camp ni whang amongst themselves, the real issue we won't know.

For some, replicating a Chanel bag is easy. But it can never be considered a Chanel bag unless it is made by the company itself. Same goes here. You can learn to do their process of tattooing but it will never be considered legit unless it's done by a legitimate mambabatok.

yes which is the whole point here, NAS didnt even need her permission... nobody owns a technique to tattooing... he was free to make a course on how to do the tattoos without anyones permission, i believe out of respect thats why he did the contract and paid her though. Shame because it was a good idea, someone has obviously gotten the smell of money and has become greedy though.

This is either the translator fault
or the convincing skills of Nas Academy or who ever that guy is. They took advantage of her. Did they show the full image of contract? They need to check that bcos this is rip off and BS if the Nas Academy is earning while the old lady is not getting anything. 👀👀👀
The translator is the niece. The one who complained was the grand niece. I think this is all about money on Wang Od’s grandniece side.

they didn't understand the writings. Nas Daily must have incredible convincing skills, or they were in some kind of pressure, they signed without fully understanding what they're getting themselves into. Translator was probably one of the locals, not a very efficient one. They're tribesmen, although able to communicate simple English, they were not very English literate to be able to fully understand writings in such formal documents. They probably didn't know they ought to be in the presence of a lawyer before signing binding contacts. They were kind of naive and gullible and Nas Daily was fully aware of this, he used their weakness to exploit them.
Nagtataka ako is why didn't anyone on whang od's side bring up the preservation of culture issue while discussions were being done. Dun pa lang shut down na dapat ang negotiations at no need na to have a lawyer go through the contract kung bawal naman pala at supposed common knowledge ito in the first place. Not supporting nas, I don't watch him at all, but medyo may mali din sa mga nagbabantay kay whang. I'm sure they're not that clueless na hindi nila naintindihan even the basic idea of what nas wanted to do, so bakit hindi man lang nila pinag-usapan ng mabuti amongst themselves.

In my opinion if Wang Od signed a contract and whether she understood what she signed or not she should honor it. Otherwise what is the purpose of contracts if the signees will later claim they did not know what they signed?

Colonial mentality has a huge role in the Philippines. Kung pinoy vloggers, kukunti lang ang subscribers at viewers. Kapag foreigners ay ang daming viewers, likes at subscribers. Proud pa ang commenters dahil ibang lahi ang nag pi features ng ating yamang lahi. Not knowing na kumikita sila (foreigners) sa youtube. HIndi ko naman nilalahat...pero most of them did.
