    Although electronic repair is not the norm anymore with our throw away society. I find this so interesting. I wish more people knew how to repair things instead of tossing them out. You sir are an amazing person. Thanks for giving us your knowledge. Btw did you ever fix the tabletop clock CD player with the bent spindle?

    Rubber Renew is amazing stuff. I used it on a 1962 Truvox reel to reel tape recorder which uses a idler wheel system instead of belts, the grip especially on fast forward & rewind reels has improved.

    We just found a mint condition Normende console! Everything works beautiful….. except this guy. It LOOKS gorgeous and has all the accessories, the ten automatic 45” changer, the buttons, etc etc, but he won’t spin. So this is a very exciting video to find.

    My Dad had a 1955 Silvertone console that had a idler wheel setup like that. But no 16 RPM speed. Felt turntable.

    Correct duplo stylus would be the DN 3. Available at the bay. A company in Swiss even make them new.

    Oddly enough, this is exactly the kind of speed-select mechanism I’m more familiar with. I had a couple of similar record players back in the day, and they had this exact system (sans the 16 rpm option, which is pretty rare). The cartridge on one of them had a different stylus arrangement. You had to flip it 180 degrees for the 78 rpm needle to engage.

    Nice unit. I still have a Lenco B55 idler that can do 16/ 33/ 45/ 78 that I use on a daily basis.

    I've been using your belt reviving trick on turntable tires. It works well on them also. I still use rubber renue after that.

    Hi there, great video! I have a dual 1007 that is part of a nordmende traviata unit. With power to the console the motor for the turn table is really tight and won’t spin. Any suggestions on how to remedy this? Does it just need and cleaning and new lubricant? I am very much a novice so any suggestions would be great!

    this is something i need to fix in my old 1951 dresser sized Philco motor works and stuff but the arm and some of the mechanisms to make it control properly are broke or just shifted so bad i have no idea how to move it without breaking.
    Edit: forgot to mention that i even have a working 1929 talking victor machine windup suitcase phonograph that i got long time ago. the antique store that had it they had it all apart and was cleaned and re oiled so its been in working condition since. plays those old 78's like day it was made its amazing. sadly no volume control on those since it uses a sound box and not a speaker. finding those one use needles are fun.. although i do reuse them like twice or so just by rotating them if the tip didn't grind off most of the way first.

    Is it true that if you use a stereo pickup out of phase you can cancel out most of the noise when playing a mono record like a 78?

      Yes they had some nice tables. I have a nice 2 speed belt drive, and a 3 speed rim drive that is part of the Noresco stereo I restored last summer. My daughter now has this collectible unit. The Made in Canada Noresco amp makes it really collectable now, because they stopped making them in Canada in 1974. Uses american Motorola transistors. 40WPC sounds really nice, and in a real solid wood cabinet.

      It's an induction motor. It will run on 60cyckes. You just need the correct pulley.

  • @zx8401ztv
    @zx8401ztv 6 лет назад

    Now that is an old deck, i like the different speed pulleys, i've not seen that design before.
    The drive still sounds a bit rough, a second go with the renew maybe.
    78 and 16 rpm are missing from most decks, i can see why you want it working.

      It is the record player from an old Normandy console stereo that my late father in-law gave me. It is an early 60's unit, AM/FM/SW radio. All tube design, beautiful. Not as much as a scratch on the cabinet, as it has always been covered. It is on the to do list. Going to re-cap it, and get it fully restored. Wife has been on my case for over a year since she inherited it. Hopefully a winter project. I still have my late fathers old McIntosh 1500 receiver to go through as well.

    • @zx8401ztv
      @zx8401ztv 6 лет назад

      Well you do enough for other people outside your family, so the normandy re-cap and repair is a good thing to do.
      On another topic, i keep seeing Artical 13, if its passed any copyright material will screw you and youtube up.
      Never show any clips (other than your own films) ever again.
      I dont know if it has been passed, did you know about this?

    That Rubber Renue is some stinky stuff - smells like Pepto Bismal except a thousand times stronger...

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  6 лет назад +2

      Halls vape o rub.
      Has wintergreen oil in it along with other nasty compounds. Nasty stuff but it works. The older formulation was even better but it was very toxic so they banned it. This stuff is slightly less toxic. Still bad stuff. Use only in well ventilated work space. Now excuse me while I pick my liver up off the floor.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  6 лет назад

      Sure could but the needle for a modern table is not the correct needle. I have 2 more modern duals with 78 now. One I would have to borrow back from my daughter, that is the one with the noresco amp on it. The problem is they have a nee needle and that wont play a 78 properly. Very very noisy.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  6 лет назад +1

      To make a 1 off recording of a 78 it won't be an issue. And it wont scrape the groove of the record anymore than it did when it was new. There is nothing wrong with the tone arm or needle. Only a plastic cosmetic part is broken. This is an antique after all not a daily driver.

      What is the weight of the stylus pressing on the record , I set mine at 1.5 ,
      If the stylus is worn , it wil ware flat the sides of the tracks and not rest at the base of the groove cousing a spray sound on playback .
      I have some old 60s & 70s 7 " singles POP records with nothing really left of them .

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  6 лет назад +1

      I have not measured it because this turntable is NOT being used regularly. I use it for 1 off recording for clients. In this case it is the clients mother singing. The record will get 1 pass and this isn't going to cause much wear for a single pass. The unit has been sitting in the console for years. I just remove it every few years when I need to record a 78 record. The microgrove stylus is worn, but the 78 stylus is still in good shape.

      Yep , ok for testing .
      I had my stylus set to 2. 50 , I miss read the read so the sound was not good at all .
      I had this setting for years , audeo teckinica cartragies are not that good from the start , this was my learning curve .
      Never used the decks much at that time due to the sound , not many recordings were made .
      With help from Richer Sounds store some months ago , I now use ortofon .
      Far better now after being miss led by some youtubers recommendations .
      PS : not sure how long I will be with youtube as the Counsel are taking money out of my Benefits electronically leaving me to short .
      I have just payed for this month but the next will be coming out of my savings so I cannot do that as this money is not for BILL paying .

      @@shaun9107 Shaun, as primitive as that Dual changer is, it's far gentler than the record players in use at the time that 78 was made. Some record players of that era didn't have a counter-weight or even a spring!
