Yes, I too had a problem with the run time CHH, and the mustache as well. I think Robert was going for Vlad the Impaler look, so I have to give him props for that. Did I love the film? Well, I plan on buying the 4K version of it, so yessss!!!
Eggers said he wanted Orloc to resemble a nobleman in the fashion from the time period he would have lived. It didnt bother me . Maybe it will grow on you 😉
@@charleyvarrick6371 I think this is exactly why the look doesn't work for me. Dracula is meant to be seductive. Orlok is meant to be repulsive. Oil and water don't mix. Nosferatu 1922 is special because of how it deviated from the source material. Which was intended due to the legal issues, of course. I enjoyed Eggers' movie nonetheless.
@@mistermoo7602 I recall not liking Francis Ford Coppola's hair style choice for Gary Oldmans Dracula. That big bouffant, he was sporting, I thought was distracting, at the time. Now I consider it iconic. I hope others will have a similar response to Eggers style choices as time plays a role.
That scene you mentioned in the woods is my favorite moment of the film. My favorite image I've seen in a movie for a long time. It felt like a familiar beautiful macabre nightmare
I LOVED the mustache. He looked like Vlad the Impaler dug up from the grave after being buried for a few weeks (minus the long hair). In addition, in Bram Stoker’s book, Dracula has a drooping mustache. Medieval Transylvanians were all about their mustaches. Best movie of the year hands down.
I will have to watch it again... On my first watch ... I just thought it was ok... Willem Dafoe was the weak link for me (Hammed it up, too much)... Orlok was great (his look was what I liked best) a Demonic Vlad the Impaler... I agree that the visuals were like a series of paintings. It was slow at times... I was pulled out of the film at least 4 times... I didn't notice if there was a correlation between the scenes when it happened... I did feel the mental "check my watch" moment ... at least twice... I thought it was too dark at times (hard to see)... I am still on the fence... On one hand (there are all these little things that bother me)... On the other hand (It has everything that should be in it, in it)... Not sure that I would or could change anything to make it better... I should love it, hopefully I will in time.
Very accurate review. The ‘stache was off putting to me. The visuals in the movie were breathtaking. I started feeling the run time, but was not bored.
I caught it this morning with my son. I really enjoyed it. I loved the atmosphere, the overall sense of dread was palbable. I don't think this was my outright favorite film of the year but it was hands down my favorite Horror film of the year. I though it was a refreshing change of pace from the other horror films we got this year. It's particularlly fun to see a more old school take on vampires going back to vampires as absolutely evil monsters vs gothic romance sex symbols. It's great we're finishing the year movie wise on an upnote.
I agree with you on every single point you made. I hated the mustache if I’m being honest. I know that the mustache is from Bram Stoker’s book Dracula, and it is fine as described in the book, but it did not serve this film. But overall, your opinion is exactly the same as mine in this film. As a Universal Classic Monster fan, a fan of classic gothic horror, this movie was awesome.
Bro just watched Nosferatu. This movie tries so hard but misses every time. The performances are bad sometimes laughable. The stakes are not clearly laid out. There is no payoff. There is no reason to care for any of the characters. I really like the Northman and the Witch was cool.
I just saw it. It is one of the best movies I saw this year. I've loved 3 out of the 4 films I've seen from this director. The Witch, The Northman, and Nosferatu were all top tier. The Lighthouse was ok but good. I can't wait to see more work from him.
Finally saw this last night....fucking amazing film. No way they could have just copied the look of Schrek or Kinski...I'm glad that he went a different route and made him unique.
I am really hoping with the release of this film that Universal finally will announce an upgrade to shadow of the vampire that film never obtained a Blu-ray release and has been tragically out of print for many years now I am hoping that somebody obtains the rights to this for Universal themselves give it a 4K treatment
The Porn Stash didnt bother me too much, i appreciated it being slightly different, I agree on the run time it had a few scenes that repeated itself, if they could have found a way to chop 10 min. Pretty spot on revie
I'm super excited for this, I want to know: Did CHH see The Substance? That is definitely my movie of the year so far, so I'm excited to see if this one tops that!
The wife and I went and seen it yesterday. I liked it, my only qualms were the mustache and the run time. Right now I still like Late Night With the Devil a little more.
His mustache and voice had me thinking of borat 😂 but I loved the movie and thought he was great in it . Everyone was excellent.. and agree on the run time I could feel it but was engaged so it didn’t bother me
Watching Gothic horror drip off the Silver Screen is just an awesome experience. For the people saying that it was boring, they must be part of the tik tock generation and don't even know anything about the original silent film or that it even exists LOL. They must have been expecting an action-packed vampire movie with a lot of suspense and kills 😆. The mustache also bugged me LOL funny how a lot of people are saying that... and only other qualm I have is that it seems like it took forever for homeboy to finally leave to go meet up with the count. When it finally came I'm like damn this guy said he was leaving like four scenes ago 😆
I'm dying to see this movie unfortunately all theaters around here closed down so will have to wait for it physical. Good review and cool video Christian!👍
Saw an advanced screening last week. Met Rad Garrett! Old theater so struggled a bit to see over the people in front of me. 😂 A visual treat for sure. Will there be many arguments about it being a "Christmas" movie? lol
That mustache was my least favorite part of it. Fantastic film to look at and every actor brought it. Really wish they had given this a proper Dolby Cinema release. Fucking Mufasa
I really enjoyed it! Didn't mind the pacing too much since the cinematography looked great! Also probably the most erotic Vampire film I've seen since Fright night (1985) or To Die For. 👍🏻👍🏻
I liked the look of him & the movie. Cool. Way too long though. And too much FFC Bram Stoker's Dracula theatrics. I could've done without the lead actress starting in the first 15 mins - it's like she was overacting to the back of a play theater in every scene. The supporting players were solid.
I haven’t seen it yet, but having Willem DaFoe in the movie but NOT as Orlok is unforgivable. Bill Skarsgard needs to go away. He’s in everything and he just looks too weird and bug eyed to stand out for me. I hated his Pennywise.

Best way I can sum this up is, it’s a spectacle of a film. Bill’s voice for Nosfeatu is something else man. Wow
Baldy jack I could just hug you
@ gotta buy me dinner first.

Yeah like say Vlad the Impaler, whom Dracula was based on.

It was weird that Nosferatu had a mustache because the original movie he does not have one does not make sense

Best movie of the year.

I look forward to seeing this movie.👍😎
It was just as good as 92 Dracula and better than interview with a vampire, nothing will ever top fright night though

It's totally a Christmas movie
Really enjoyed nosferatu also a standout scene to me was at the inn with the gypsies it felt very authentic
Instant classic
They should have used the Blue Oyster Cult song “Nosferatu” in the soundtrack - they also got snubbed by Godzilla 1998
