You play Scott Joplin better than anyone else. It’s so joyful. My uncle would sometimes play ragtime for us when we visited him and I’ve loved it ever since. He played pretty good figuring he had one partial finger he lost in the coal mine.
Relearn it! I was the same way, learned some bits of Joplin pieces when I was young. Eventually forgot them, now 30 years later I'm sitting at my old yamaha keyboard and going through the process. Enjoying it.
And a swing! There are tons of concert pianist's videos out there, where they place it at about the right tempo, but they sound rigid (classical players trying to play outside their genre). It's gotta bounce, and it's gotta swing...it's gotta sound fun!

This is one of the first songs I ever knew by heart as a child. I would stand holding on to the side of mom's baby grand and watch her play and was fascinated. I'd crawl underneath to see the pads hit the big coils of wire. She was born in 1905 and had me in 1951 and I was so fortunate to be given her love and vast knowledge of music. She could play anything from Mozart and Beethoven to stride boogie to When Rebecca Came From Mecca. If she was in the room with a piano there was an instant party. Jeannette lived to be a few months shy of 100, and I'm so grateful for the love of music that she gave to her 'old egg.'
I've never heard this played slow but I really like it. The fast paced is more for fighting scenes and stuff like that. This is more relaxed yet energizing at the same time. Great video.
I first heard this amazing Scott Joplin rag in middle school one of my friends showed it me and I've been hooked on it ever since and the music teacher knew how to play it as well, full credit goes David Stone! Well done Corey Hall!

second thing is it will not sound as good if you will play it as here cuz u probably wont start with some super expensive grand piano and this guy plays it perfectly which requires many years of practice.
Far from being perfect... he’s playing it like any classical pianist would play it if they don’t understand or feel the Afro-beat ... which is what ragtime is ... ragtime music is not supposed to be played with a western classical feel... it feels off beats .... just like it feel off beats to western musicians when played the right way with Afro-beat 3:2
This is definitely slower than Joplin played it, and considerably less funky/swung/dirty too. I like both the styles, although Joplin's just flat out feels a bit rushed if you ask me.

Great to see that right foot PLANTED on the floor. Very light clean sound with no sustain pedal. A bit swinging and syncopated, I thought it was just right. I think that players who primarly play Chopin won't understand why you need a simple clean style to play rags. Also, a nice moderate tempo that seems just right. Beautiful.
I agree, I like the straight version too. I was always taught that rags should never be swung. However, you made this sound good. I'd be interested in hearing the other rags you play swung. Great video!
