This is one of the first songs I ever knew by heart as a child. I would stand holding on to the side of mom's baby grand and watch her play and was fascinated. I'd crawl underneath to see the pads hit the big coils of wire. She was born in 1905 and had me in 1951 and I was so fortunate to be given her love and vast knowledge of music. She could play anything from Mozart and Beethoven to stride boogie to When Rebecca Came From Mecca. If she was in the room with a piano there was an instant party. Jeannette lived to be a few months shy of 100, and I'm so grateful for the love of music that she gave to her 'old egg.'

Great to see that right foot PLANTED on the floor. Very light clean sound with no sustain pedal. A bit swinging and syncopated, I thought it was just right. And I told myself there is no way that i would be able to play it (because i had just started piano at that time). I started with the entertainer, and i was able to get the first section with no problem. I then started to take on the beast that’s maple leaf rag. I got through it in about 8-9 months. Im 13 now, and I can play it 1.5x tempo and blindfolded. So y’all dont give up if you are an aspiring pianist. Starting on easy winners (got the first section)

Everybody else plays either at the wrong tempo, or just have no control in their fingers so they hit 19 keys with one hand. Thanks for the good version lad.

Great, better than straight rhythms. Lot of energy. What's more, it's kinda jazzy ;)

A little more jazzy than probably what Scott Joplin intended, but very good. Cory plays the repeat of the second part 8va (an octave higher) than written. I approve!

I finally subsribed to you. It's interesting how you investigate and then play it with your gut feeling in how the composer should have played it.
Was the 2nd half of this song composed by Joplin, because I've only ever heard the 1st part of the Maple Leaf.

How many years of playing do you reckon until I’ll be able to play this? I’m a total beginner adult with weekly lessons and daily practice. I’ve been learning for 6 days and I’m up to a third of the way through book 1.

3 years. After about a year you should be able to play a simplified version. Then if you practice every day (5 days a week). You will be a pro by the end of the 3rd year.

@BachScholar A lot of the videos or songs I've found with Maple Leaf Rag are just too fast for me. this is just the right speed. :)
