    A lot if apartment cabinets are this kind of material, good tips if you want to keep your deposit after you leave. If you have an accident and cant buy matching parts to replace what's broken, these would work

    The booth type particle board table in my camper which slides into one of two clips to either set at table height or bed height had been improperly handled and broke the screwed in clips taking a hunk of particle board with it. Rather that completely rebuild the table top which would have involved new Formica. I opted to make a quick jig and routed out a square where the break-out was and then glue in a matching square of plywood. Then routed it flush with the underside and then installed the clips onto the plywood. Much quicker than a rebuild.

      @@Pabloworldwide it’s solid. I would recommend using polyurethane construction adhesive rather than wood glue. Also make the replacement square about 1 to 2 inches wider than the chipped area to achieve solid adhesion

    I think what he is really doing is reverse psychology. He's really saying this type of material is shit and this is what you can expect if you by stuff made from it. BUT he does do a good job fixing it back up..

    The veneer is easier and safer to apply with a clothing iron.

      Yes, I thought the same when I saw him blowing hot air onto his hand, but the iron can leave some nasty marks on the surface if you're not careful. The heat gun could leave nasty marks on your hand, yes, but you obviously care about the furniture more.

    Thank you.. some very good techniques definitely ideas that can come handy sometimes... but at the cost of board and time to repair maybe it's just better to buy a peice of off cut and cut a new panel

      Thanks, Captain Obvious. He's talking about _ALTERNATIVES_ to buying a new piece. Getting a new board and cutting it isn't always the easiest or cheapest option and sometimes it's just simply NOT an option.

    Anybody willing to put that much effort into fixing a piece of crap composite piece of furniture should have had enough sense it just buy some 1" x 6" or 8" birch or poplar along with the cheap $15 kregg pocket hole jig, and just build their own shelves, entertainment center, or whatever.
