Unlike in the past, actors now have much more competition that ever. Influencers, Video games, Streamers, RUclipsrs, Bollywood, Podcasters, Anime, etc. So, the internet killed the movie star.
This is true however don't be fooled, the market has seen exponential growth since the pandemic, companies are actually making more money than previous years. The internet is creating more stars
People are terminally online and don't realize that a lot of these celebrities are terrible representatives of reality. Most of them either get free/loaned expensive stuff, better contracts, have connections, or have advocates. Celebrities are like artists of old: There's always a patron willing to invest money into you for entertainment.
Celebrities live above their means and it’s as simple as that, I think a lot of them feel pressure to live a certain lifestyle if your rich and famous and it drives a lot of them “broke” but let’s not kid ourselves, celebrity broke is different from our broke, their broke is more so I can’t afford my very rich lifestyle anymore not broke broke like us where we don’t have a dime in the bank, no cash, nothing of any real value and are legit struggling to get by/survive
Exactly what I was thinking. Most of them aren’t broke like the everyday Joe Shmoe. They’re living above their means. Some of them might truly be broke but I think the majority aren’t
I have SO many friends that spend far beyond their means and it’s always shocking that, regardless of debt, they wanna go on elaborate trips and super fancy dinners. I’d rather work on extra mortgage payments and investing because that is gonna make my life actually better.
I think it's a mixture of "finally being able to live my dream life", and the expectations of the boulevard press. An actor living in a 5-room house in a quiet suburb? Inconceivable. He'd be hounded endlessly by paparazzi trying to figure out what is wrong with him. And once you "have to" live in a walled mansion with private security, I guess things start to spiral out of control.
Maybe hounded at the time of move but paparazzi have their job an and loves and can’t stay in some suburb airing someone to come out. Most paparazzi pictures these days are taken of celebs who call the paps. And older and less glamorous celebs (like directors, writers, fashion designers). Often do live in less glamorous areas but in bigger houses. It’s the actor and singer types whose product is themselves and their image closely that get more scrutiny (and even then there are known characters actors and older actors).
To avoid spending for instant gratification, every time I'm going to pay for a service or buy a product, I try to think if my future self will appreciate it.
@@lererewrewrebakhgi it was a lesson learned from living a long time with the mentality of "future me will figure it out". Realized how bad that was for my mental health and doing the inverse has been phenomenal. The little things can really add up too.
Oh man, I was once listening to a child actor who went broke and they broke down some of their outrageous costs of living and it was so interesting. Similar to lifestyle inflation, once you’re making a certain amount, you’re “expected” to pay for things like managers, agents, accountants, lawyers, stylists, hair and makeup artists, consultants... I wish I could remember what it was from but it was interesting how quickly a large amount can disappear each month
Cosmetic surgeries, nutritionists, personal trainers, pet sitters, personal assistants, house staff ranging from gardener to pool maintenance to eletricity maintenance to cleaning and cooking...
Chloe Bailey talks about this. When an artist (as in singer/rapper) signs with a record label, the artists are given an “advance” aka loan that they are expected to pay back by creating and selling an album. Songs can have millions of streams/sales but the artist will be the last to get paid after the producers, promoters, record label and everyone else gets their cut first. It turns bad when the artist’s album doesn’t make enough money to pay back the loan. I can’t remember the singers’ names but I remember this happening to a lot of the lesser known American Idol winners. They win, get signed to a label, lose popularity, and end up going into debt because of it. It’s actually why a lot of artists try to tour so often; that’s where they make the most money. I saw the Pussycat Dolls documentary where it showed that the girls were making about $800/week (todays equivalent). They were pushed to keep touring and performing almost non-stop. They were part of a 360 deal where anything involving their groups name was going to go first in profits to the label they were with.
Only when an artist keeps or regains their publishing rights and have sold a zillion units (streams, downloads, albums, …) and were lucky enough to live long enough and be born in 1950s can they sell their catalog (rights) for $100s of millions. The copy right is good for 70 years after death; so if you are who ever (legacy legend) being alive means the buyer has 70 years after the day the deal is closed.
People assume that every celebrity is a millionaire or something, but you really have to be an A-lister and be consistently working to be making crazy amounts like that. If you are popular enough to bring in money for a movie or show, then you are more likely to make more, which means you need a large loyal fanbase too.
Ive always figured, "if i work my ass off to just make 60k and being middle class how hard does a celeb have to work to make multi millions and have mansions?"

There have always been actors who like the job, but earn just a normal pay (esp. in theatre) ; but in the case of streaming, I'm with them: that's just leeching.. exploitation. Ridiculous. When it's someone like Cage, or Depp instead, we're taling about bad spending / managment of money
I think the topic of entitlement is missing from the video. There are people groomed to believe being popular means they can overspend and figure out how to pay for things later. Being gifted something expensive can create the illusion that you are owed these things when really you’ve sold your soul to the highest bidder.
You give a group of people who have likely never had money before, who tend to have little education, more money than any normal person could ever dream of. It's a recipe for overspending. It's similar to why lottery winners end up broke.

I am glad I wasn't young when all these online platforms emerged. The impressionable younger generation nowadays is bombarded with so much fake wealth, vanity, narcissism, materialism, and shallowness it's amazing! Back in the 90s, Mariah Carey was one woman considered not dressing appropriately and thus labeled Hoochie Mama. There was a distinct difference in the way that a prostitute dressed bc it was part of their job to attract attention and business. Now, every young woman dresses like a prostitute bc everyone is vying for attention stemming fr a lack of self-confidence. This is one of the dangers of being heavily exposed to media influencers. I know I have gone out of topic here but I just wanted to share my thoughts! As wealthy as our country as a whole is, younger people live from paycheck to paycheck, and flexing fake wealth in the media is just making it worse.
The real rich people in Hollywood are the producers and entrepreneurs, thats why you hear such stories of artists being victims of abuse. Celebrities dont have the power because fame is fleeting, power and wealth isnt.(i mean it is but its not dependent on being famous, likeable, charismatic etc) Decision makers in hollywood are the CEOs and celebrities are the employees. And decision makers that make artistic choices are rarely actors themselves.
Hello! If you like, could you make a video about this Fake Rich Celebs and it's about Black Celebrities including rappers who are flaunting money into their MVs and Shows?? Please? Thank you!
I knew someone that was always posting content of their travels, and I figured she must’ve been doing pretty well for herself. I find out later that she pretty much couch surfs and eats cup ramen on the trips. I think giving the illusion of having a fun time was more important than actually having a good time?
Lots of millennials followed traditional celebrity culture. Influencers are also the new celebrities, and Gen Zers still latch onto plenty of celebs like Taylor Swift, Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jenna Ortega, etc.
You have no idea what "boomer" means, do you? Just because *you* don't follow any celebrities doesn't negate the fact that with social media, celebrities have immense power over millions and millions of today's teens and twens. But I guess the world revolves around you...
Syndey Sweeney can definitely afford to take a 6 month sabbatical. Her career would be on the line but monetarily she can afford it. After all she is a walking advertisement so any living expenses are covered in exchange for a name drop. Hair makeup clothing food she is advertising 24/7. You think shes sweating about the gas bill?
Thank you for the video. Currently I think I have a good balance between spending and saving but I definitely need to put some thought into my values. Not really sure what it is I'm striving for.
Yup definitely stressful for them A RUclipsr recently told me that he doesn’t show his face because he would be stressed about being seen wearing the same clothes more than twice 😅
I deleted Twitter, it just seems like it's just people selling stuff and women selling OF subscriptions and politics. I feel like I waste a lot of time too.
It costs money to make money. A lot of celebrities take out loans and sign contracts with production conpanies to get their fame if it isn't through extremely hard work , talent and some luck. Even after celebrities naturally gain a bit of fame, there are predatory management companies who want to trap talented people with them. I'm sure a lot of it is greedy mismanagement of their riches, that leads them to thinking even at their level they are "paycheck to paycheck" at their living standard, but many of them depend on competition-helpers and that help to increase fame and their "help"/publicity enhancing isn't cheap.
I don't feel bad since there is no reason they have to spend like that. They can pay 2k for a basic apartment like the rest of us. Nobody asked them to drop a 1mill on a house, or a car or some shite lol
Recently saw Shannon Sharpe & Charles Barkley on Club Shay Shay discussing how living the “celeb flexing lifestyle” leads to many pro athletes going broke. That $20 million or $100 million contract is only good for 4 years (average careers) has to last after taxes for the rest of your life unless you have a second act (like these two). Charles Barkley recalled how his former 76er teammate Julius Dr J Erving asking him, “Charles, just how many cars can you drive at one time?” Charles recalled answering, “One.” Dr. J replied, “so why do you need five?” Sharp noted that Barkley will be recognized because he’s Charles Barkley if he drives up in a Kia or a Bentley.
They are to busy telling the average person what to think and who to vote for-sick of them They also now have to be gay t play a gay part-trans for a trans part -etc-have 0 sympathy for any of them
Not exactly the same, but it has been the case where athletes earn these millions of dollars but end up broke a few years after they retire. They get into "Lifestyle inflation" and then can't stop. Now some are trying to avoid this by getting into business. Unfortunately, they may just latch on to whatever business idea their friend proposes and lose a lot of money. Likely like Kevin Hart's line of vegan Restaurants.
I guess I never thought of the people you have to pay when you start to become “Big” in Hollywood. Paying for a lawyer, manager, publicist, and etc… that sounds like a headache and those people may be scamming off of you too…
I love Joker LOL, he's pretty much one of us in a superstar's body and he's got Marshawn Lynch's mindset when he says "I'm just here so I don't get fined" 😂😅
If they handled money realistically they could easily retire 😂😂😂😂 These ppl are insane with their money I work in film and tv and most of them could easily be set for life lol They just don’t care The allure of the fabulous life is too strong but they do it to themselves
I look forward to cara's videos.Aside from the content which generally is great I really look forward to the sponsor of the videos...its almost always a different one each video😄
People think any salary (for a movie, TV show, etc) that ends in 'illions means a high rolling lifestyle. Really a few million dollars wouldn't be enough to quit a job if you don't turn it into something like passive income and have a plan. It's not limited to being a celebrity. But they are especially prone to keep spending money on luxuries.
The only thing that makes someone rich is honestly the fact that if day by day you feel fulfilled with what you've done and if it gives you some sort of contentment then you're truly rich since most people aren't millionaires nor billionaires who don't have debt to pay somewhere. It looks like an illusion because most of the population arealways running after money, they forget what the already have.
I think the main thing you missed is that a lot of their expenses can be written off as business expenses. The Kardashians throwing a ridiculously expensive kid’s party? Well if it airs on TV, they can write the supplies off as props & business expenses for the show. Same thing with flaunting influencers. And a lot of them are narcissists. It matters a lot to them how they’re perceived. Reality isn’t as important to them.
It's not called "fake flexing", it's just marketing. They are their own brand, so they are marketing themselves. You know your Big Mac be different from the TV ad, you know your Benz won't drive like its TV ad, and you def know all gasolines are the same despite all those crazy tech their ad on TV. It's the samething with celebrities, it's not "Fake Flexing", they are doing Ads like all consumer product does. For the kids watching them, it's their parents' job to make them understand the work and sacrifies individuals behind those glittering galor. But at the end you have only the Western culture to blame. Telling kids "Santa" brought all the gift instead it was bought by the parents working 2 jobs each... Kids thinking that "Tooth Fairy" put the money instead of parents hard earn money. These kids all grown up to be entitled to be given things because all through their childhood they were told "Some one" Gave them this or that... value won't have any meaning for them, so naturally they are attracted to nice things on TV, and naturally the Celebrities uses these products to lure attentions.
A while back was watching some old MTV cribs shows and there were def ideas that some of those ppl did not own that house let alone know the layout of it!
I suggest you do a video on Michael Jackson. He made so much money in his lifetime, but spend so lavishly that he was reportedly $500M in debt upon his deatg
Of course, Jokic likes his job and the money he earns. he wouldn't be able to afford all those horses he loves more than his wife. Most of these celebs don't know how to live within their means They want to show off wealth they don't have.
@@janisir4529having money breeds desire to spend it. You may not imagine spending those funds now because you don’t have them, but don’t think that you are somehow better or more virtuous and would never behave like that in a similar situation. The lifestyle of rich and famous simply costs more.

Please? Thank you!
Agent fees, lifestyle inflation, etc.
I’m actually shocked that low income is almost 50k a year I thought it was closer to 30k-35k a year
Always love seeing a new video from you pop up in my feed. I have learned so much from you!
I knew someone that was always posting content of their travels, and I figured she must’ve been doing pretty well for herself. I find out later that she pretty much couch surfs and eats cup ramen on the trips. I think giving the illusion of having a fun time was more important than actually having a good time?
This is weird because I don't consume any celebrity media and I'm surprised people still do. Seems like boomer culture.
🙄
Okay. You want a medal or something?
@@AlexHider incredible wit!
Lifestyle inflation is one hell of a thing.
Look at Ian somerhalder now. Wasn’t he doing sale livestream? And that guy that played the evil kid in Harry Potters. He does cameos
Yup definitely stressful for them
A RUclipsr recently told me that he doesn’t show his face because he would be stressed about being seen wearing the same clothes more than twice 😅
i don't think people care if someone wears something twice. especially not a RUclipsr
I deleted Twitter, it just seems like it's just people selling stuff and women selling OF subscriptions and politics. I feel like I waste a lot of time too.
It's all about Desire!
No they can't. It hugely depends on the calibre of celeb.
@@canesugar911 yes they can. make money and quit, thats it
It'll ruin their image
@@canesugar911
Yes they can. Who says rich people gotta live lavishly?
@@Lalaland099
You know what ruins an image faster? Ending up broke
J replied, “so why do you need five?”
Sharp noted that Barkley will be recognized because he’s Charles Barkley if he drives up in a Kia or a Bentley.
They are to busy telling the average person what to think and who to vote for-sick of them
They also now have to be gay t play a gay part-trans for a trans part -etc-have 0 sympathy for any of them
Not exactly the same, but it has been the case where athletes earn these millions of dollars but end up broke a few years after they retire.
7:20 Cilian Murphy also doesn’t hide his feelings during events/promotions 😂 I love him
Cara you and Spencer Cornelia would make a sick duo when it comes to discussing wealth, would be great if you did a collab
You went to Portugal ❤
So good! Always love your videos. Such truth. Thank you for making amazing content!
If they handled money realistically they could easily retire 😂😂😂😂
These ppl are insane with their money
I work in film and tv and most of them could easily be set for life lol
They just don’t care
The allure of the fabulous life is too strong but they do it to themselves
It looks like an illusion because most of the population arealways running after money, they forget what the already have.
genuenly dont care about financial struggle of millioners
I think the main thing you missed is that a lot of their expenses can be written off as business expenses. The Kardashians throwing a ridiculously expensive kid’s party? Well if it airs on TV, they can write the supplies off as props & business expenses for the show. Same thing with flaunting influencers.
And a lot of them are narcissists. It matters a lot to them how they’re perceived. Reality isn’t as important to them.
They spend all their money. Simple as that.
Thank you fir this reminder !!!!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I am almost certain nic cage is broke but he genuinely doesn't care at all
They also have to pay their plastic surgeons and dermatologists to stay looking young. That can cost in the hundreds of thousands.
I love whwatching lo-fi Audrey Plaza give me sound financial advice. Great video.
Hey you quoted Suits! It’s a great show, I wish suits were more common in the work place
Just so you know the guys from Entourage leased the car, they didn't buy it.
Loved this video!
Royalty payments are weird. I would always be demanding better upfront pay. You never know how the future is gonna play out.
A while back was watching some old MTV cribs shows and there were def ideas that some of those ppl did not own that house let alone know the layout of it!
The Illuminati? 🤔
🌸🌸🌸
Thank you!
S U Y T !!!
Imagine marrying this girl, she hot and knows about money😂
Videos like yours are all I watch. They keep me grounded in reality and keep money in my pocket. Thanks!!!
It’s all marketing
Nice
I just can't imagine how can you go broke after earning millions every year...
If they get $7 million they spend $9 million, it's a common problem with Celebrities.
@@Adelina-293 Yea, I just genuinely can't relate to wanting spending that much money.
@@janisir4529having money breeds desire to spend it. You may not imagine spending those funds now because you don’t have them, but don’t think that you are somehow better or more virtuous and would never behave like that in a similar situation. The lifestyle of rich and famous simply costs more.
I think it's important to remember a lot of them have people around them that don't have their best interests in mind.
treat yo self was a psyop
Tbh if someome lives paycheck to paycheck due to lifestyle inflation I have no empathy for them
This is why I’m glad that I always have a scarcity mindset xD
Damn Sydney, that ozempic is expensive!
13:27 this ‘lower-income’ citation from Forbes is incorrect. The pew research center has a calculator they published a couple of weeks ago and an income of $48,000 is still considered middle , not lower, income in most metro areas, including LA and NYC.
id sleep around and get paid, set that money aside on top of my salary as an actor. hahaha.
Your title is click bait.
Just cause sweeney said that she can’t afford to take a break during her height on filming and doing euphoria doesn’t mean she can’t take a break now.
That was nearly 3-5 years ago, which makes it invalid to use. Please fix your title, cause it’s giving 5minute craft
