It would be nice to know why you can't store them in the drawer

If the knife has a dedicated slot where nothing can bang into it, then sure. But when the drawer moves, everything in the drawer bangs against each other and you can damage the blade.

You have other sharp/heavy things in the drawer that might hit on the edge of the blade and it might chip it off. I just dropped my Shun from a height of 6 inches and managed to chip off a bit from it. They are strong yet the edge is very brittle. Also the steel is very sensitive to scratches. I ended up busting one of my knives when I just use those green scrubs to wash them and ended up with scratches all over :( These knives are super sensitive yet when they do their job, it has no shortcomings.
