Making enormous demands on the pianist, this is another showstopper of a Russian Concerto. It was written with, apparently, the brilliant leading soloist at the time , Grigory Ginzburg, in mind. Michael Korstick proves, however, to be a remarkable virtuoso himself. Some will, no doubt, hear echoes of Rachmaninov and/or Prokofiev. All well and good, but Kabalevsky here, I firmly believe, still comes up with something startlingly and breathtakingly unique. Superb upload!
Scriabin talked about color in music. Kabalevsky delivered.
