....Melissa, ...this was a great tutorial on repotting....and you have very good growing instincts.....I agree,... dont remove all the moss, ....dont disturb the roots more than needed.....as it decays, it will fall thru the basket......should be a beautiful basket of dendrobiums when it starts blooming.

I did a similar experiment with two identical plants from Lee & Co. purchased at Redland 2023. Den. Hawaii Stripes (Roy Toynaga x Nida). The variable was - one went in a plastic octagonal, the other terracotta. The control was - media were the same lecca, charcoal, sponge rock. Both watered the same, both next to one another in screened patio. The better grower was in the terracotta pot. My conclusion the water wicked to the clay while retaining better constant moisture. I just repotted and are both in terracotta.
I live terracotta! Most of my orchids are in that and they are happy. I haven’t lost many and I feel it is due to the terra-cotta because we’ve had lots of rain. Clay works for me! 😀
