    Objekt's structure is fascinating to me, it generalized all the things that make physical modeling complicated to something straightforward to use, but it's not something you can replace easily with modular stuff, especially when it comes to coupled strings. Coupled strings are simple comb filters, but with a shared feedback path: which is a nightmare if you are not using some kind of mixing matrix. I was experimenting around with this a lot and found that a Householder matrix can be customized to share feedback between N number of strings (a Hadamard would be able to deal with 2^N strings only), but this is really something that you don't want to build since whenever you change the number of strings, you have to change the way your matrix works.

    i guess an instrument is a mixture of static resonances (no key tracking on bandpass = "The Body") and floating resonances (keytracking Bandpass = "the string") in combination with a feedbackloop to have 2 sorts of decay. one decay is done by the envelope of the exciter and one decay is made by a feedbackloop on the resonating bandpasses. at least i got the best results in reaktor back the day. a LP-filter in the feedbackloop could be helpful as well. for the rest it is just the range of sweetspots of all the parameters/knobs (work with macroknobs to finetune feedbackamount and and BP-resonaces to get the sweetspots). thats the key to tame physical modeling

      another point is karplus strong (feedbackloop on a keytracked lowpass filter). how to combine all these methods will create different instruments. string, mallet and so on...

    hah I was going to say, I made a physical modeling synth in The Grid before with a comb filter. And there you go with it :D The OG OP-1's String synth engine is probably my favorite one on the OP-1
    I love synthesizers that aren't VA or wavetable... especially PM :D

    Haha, this video is interresting but when I saw the picture initially, I was excited, thinking "great, Polarity is testing objekt !".

    Amazing stuff. I was actually looking for a corpus replacement in Bitwig.

    The guitar sounds really good at the end. True that it takes a long time to dial in, and it's good to have a reference. I like using Keytrack (I guess Keytrack+ now) on the filter cutoff and filter mod to add some realness. The higher end of a guitar responds differently than the bottom end.

    A great exercise in grid engineering, well done as always.

    I like using reasons friktion phys modeling instrument. but i haven't been able to recreate that in the grid. I know how to do phys modeling when it comes to plucky sounds. but i have a hard time getting sustained notes to sound good with physical modeling. any advice?

    The interesting thing about Bitwig's Grid is how it can intuitively show producers that modular isn't just for making funny generative music with rudimentary synth sounds and/or drums. I swear, I'm tired of looking into Cardinal content on RUclips they're all doing just that even though it's running as a VST plugin.

    Near the end, it seemed like you deleted all the bandpass filters, but the sound did not change. What went on there?

    • @PolarityMusic
      @PolarityMusic  Год назад +1

      i replaced all bandpass filters (tuned to the harmonic series) with a comb filter (which also creates the harmonic series).

    Hi Mr Polarity! How would you create Objekts "External IN" functionality with Bitwig? I would love to be able to "excite/modulate" the sound of the synth via external live audio (vocals). Replacing the whitenoise exciter with audio in doesnt seem to be as nice as it is in objekt? "Exciting/modulating" synths via live-audio-in in general would be a topic i'm highly interested in, i don't think i found anything in your huge video archive about that.

    maybe for people already owning reaktor, I remember to the free steam pipe doing kind of similar, but very old compared to this

    I don't expect you to always do bitwig stuff. Glad you're doing cool new stuff too. Reasons a great DAW. As long as you don't start doing Ableton tutorials 😂 jk. Id watch those too

    Do you by any chance have an MPE keyboard or controller? I would love to see and hear what subtleties could be introduced that way to these kind of sounds.
    (I'm considering buying 'something' MPE enabled since Bitwig should have excellent support for it)

    great explanation, couldnt be a similar effect achieved with fm to create overtones?

    • @PolarityMusic
      @PolarityMusic  Год назад

      yes you can create all sounds in all kinds of synthesis methods, the problem is always how easy it is to model something in it. so its probably very difficult to target the right harmonics with fm

    You added the Transient Split and then continued to play the keyboard. Did you just deal with the latency or do you have a trick to get rid of the 120ms latency this device adds?

      I have no idea, but I'd love if they included an option when you right click an instrument (and its nested FX), that creates a multisample sampler instrument out of it with configurable velocity layers etc... Or does this exist somewhere?
