Heroes of the Lance? That shit is straight up not playable. It is barely a game. This is not hyperbole. If you think this is bad, you have no idea. Honestly, 4th Edition should have been a Renaissance for D&D video game development. More than any other edition, its rules set and approach to turn based combat could have been translated 1:1 into any number of single player and multiplayer video games.
@@WilliamSRD A large part of the problem with videogames in the 4e era of D&D (i would say 2008-2012/2013) was that the license for games was held by Atari (guess who published this game here) and they didn't really do anything with it, publishing stuff most likely just to prove they're maintaining the license. in 2009 Hasbro sued Atari to get the license back (Atari was also sublicencing it to Bandai Namco at the time I believe which was a contractual no-no if memory serves... it's been a few years) and only in late 2011 did they get it back. unsurprisingly, this game came out mid 2011, likely when the writing was on the wall that the license was going away.
@Oxybe Atari also made games like Neverwinter Nights, which is fantastic imo, especially with all the expansions. The games weren't all bad. Note Neverwinter Nights, NOT Neverwinter, the latter is hot garbage when you compare it to how good DnD Online was.
@Mustang McKraken except NVN is very much pre 4e. Even NVN 2 was built off the 3.5 rules if memory serves and was released 2005 or 2006, a couple of years before D&D 4e came out. The only D&D game Atari published during the 4e era was Daggerdale. the shitty Neverwinter game came after Hasbro got the license back.
Yeah I remember playing this years ago and thought it was ok, so I was kind of surprised to see this video. I may have even played it twice, but damn was it a long time ago now, over ten years I think.
This game was so forgettable that when you mentioned how forgettable it was, I checked and found out that I also already own this game. I was apparently able to determine it was garbage in .4 hours.
I played DaggerDale multiple times growing up. I have so much nostalgia for this game and such fond memories, beating it with all classes. Hearing it was regarded as "The Worst DnD game" shocks me, this'll be a trip
It's not nearly the worst lol, the internet inflates it a lot. It's pretty mediocre though when you compare it to games like Neverwinter Nights and the Darksun SSI games.
I got this game as a teen, and even poor judgment wasn't enough to get me to think it was worth finishing. Pretty sure I made it through the first act, got some magic armor that turned my whole character grey, and called it quits.
Woah, someone who doesn't just straight up shit on 4th edition when it's mentioned? Much appreciated, it's disheartening how a lot of people talk about my favourite edition of the game.
I had some fun with 4th. The campaign booklets were some of my favorites. Honestly, I think the only reason 4e failed was because it followed 3.5. There was SO much complexity in 3.5 (with basically every book adding new rules/spells/classes), and it really did have to get trimmed down to bring in newer players looking for an easy system to play. If 5e had followed 3.5, I think it would have been just as reviled as 4e.
Check out DnD stronghold if you haven't. I had it as a kid. DnD city builder typer game where you don't have direct control over anything and watch stuff play out. I still got the box and floppy disks.
I played many hours of hero's of the lance. It was actual a very strategic game. You needed to use the characters in the correct order. After many attempts I finally recovered the relic lol. Pool of radiance was a really good game
Me and my buddy did this co-op on the sofa with controllers on the 360 and had a blast. We got to the end and max level. Was so sad to hear the studio shut down before part 2 came out.
I remember being this pretty fun on Xbox back in the day. My friends and I did multiple co-op runs with us trying out each class. And then we moved over to Sword Coast Legends which was significantly better.
Daggerdale was reminding me of something and when I saw the character selection screen, it brought back the memory of the console Daggerdale game that I had bought and played so long ago! And I realized that it was definitely made for console game, not for computer game with internet co-op. Being able to play together on the same screen is how this game is supposed to be played. It is still a bad game but at least it's a bad game you can have fun with a friend or more.
That was the general state of the PC scene at the time. For about ten years unless it was an MMO, the PC version was always an AWFUL port. I had to learn to edit coding files just to get some AAA games to run back in the day. It was hell.

I think the voice acting was actually pretty ok from what is shown in the video. Having said that, i know i will never play this, thank you for doing it so we dont have to. Very funny and entertaining video, keep up with the amazing work :D
I know (well, knew, it's been a while...) one of the developers behind this game. I remember he was so frustrated and upset with the poor reviews after launch, not because he thought the game was better than it really was, but because the entire team had worked SO HARD with the resources and the deadline they had. He said he was really proud of what they managed to deliver under the horrible circumstances.
I played this with a friend one evening back when it came out. I remember our character textures disappearing with certain armor equips (like in your video), and to this day we periodically imitate the dwarf grunt "voice acting." We quit playing when my inventory spontaneously disappeared.
Me and my friends bought this game and on Xbox and had fun for some hours. Then we lost all of our unlocked skill because of a bug, breaking the game. This never got fixed. Thank you Matt Twigg! As a side note, me and the same friends also bought Cube World.
Holy crap. As soon as I saw the hero characters I was like HOLY CRAP WAIT I PLAYED THIS GAME!! I usually never forget the games I play. But this was soooo boring that I completely removed it from my brain. And sad part is this was my first time going into D&D in highschool and I didn't touch it for a long time until a friend of mine showed me Neverwinter.

Temple of elemental evil at launch at least was completely unplayable. Not sure if they fixed it. I spent an hour to try to get past the first screen of bugs, crashing, ui glitching
I feel like some mod love would actually make this a fun game. Pseudo-multiplayer modded servers and some audio mixing could really step this up. Along with some stability patches of course.
It seemed like a small group worked on this. I gave it a chance, enjoyed it a bit but then was disappointed with alot of its problems. It just wasn't as deep as it should've been. Limited spells and the point system was too short. After this I tried Dungeons n Dragons Heroes on Xbox Original which was a bit more enjoyable. Then I tried Lord of the Rings War in the North. Great game, really fun. But on xbox it has a corrupt save issue that occured after you beat the game once or twice (trying to go back for missing loot). And you would lose your save file and start all over. Fun game but that ruined it for me. Not sure if the Steam version has this issue though.
I remember being excited for this just because it was a new Forgotten Realms video game. It had been a LONG time since we'd had one. I played it on launch day as the Dwarf Cleric and reviewed it for the site I was writing for. After 9 and a half hours according to Steam's logs, I gave up. The final boss was bugged and I really didn't care enough to beat it. Also for the multiplayer being so touted...I couldn't find more than one person to play with, on launch.
I was watching this thinking "wow that game looks bad" only to find out that I also already owned it and have logged 90 clearly forgettable minutes in it.
I'm quite surprised by the lack of great DnD video games as a whole. The whole series lends itself to it so well. Still also puzzled why there are very few Game of Thrones video games but that might have to do with that IP not being sold much apart from HBO.
D&D isn't a "series" ya know, it's a _system_ with like roughly bajillion and half settings. Also over four decades old so both the mechanics and the assorted lores have been overhauled (or in the latter case blatantly and usually arbitrarily retconned) many times over - it's on its freaking 5th edition now. (4th ed was particularly, uh, 'launched to mixed receptions' because lmfao tabletop WoW p much)
The TSR branded D&D games from the 90s and early 2000s were frequently awful with terrible interfaces, game play, and story lines. I can remember returning at least 3 of them for being terrible.
@@WilliamSRD I guess that you must know them by now, but the Divinity 2 series has a really cool DND thing going on... and the old Kotor games have a DND system of sorts. You might want to check them out.

What’s so bad about Rezlus? He’s powerful, he’s loyal - to the lord of darkness, and we all need darkness, so we can sleep and have low light for romantic candle-lit dinners… not at the same time… well I guess you could… maybe that’s your thing. Nevertheless, I’m still yet to hear what’s so bad about Rezlus. He doesn’t sound so bad. I’m assuming Rezlus is a he. Ah! Maybe that woman in the opening cut scene is an ex of Rezlus and has a grudge against him… maybe THAT explains why she wants the murder hobos to defeat Rezlus (who’s not such a bad guy, going by the info we’ve been given). Oh, Rezlus has constructed an army to conquer Daggerdale, she says… so you must kill them? Hypocritical murder hobos!
This game was my first arpg experience on the 360 back in 2011, I loved it. Purchased it with micrsoft points from bing searche rewards. Maxed every class aside from ranger.
This is why I always enjoyed the ways they made more classic PC games. Wc3 d2 dungeon siege.. if servers were down for multi player but you had friends available who wanted to play it was possible to set up Lan connection. That's not even possible for most games these days
Found this one in a bargain bin for like $8 back in the day... I spent far too much. That Blue look, that is really all I remember, think I was green once too.
I have this game on disc. Paid $5 for it at a Vendor’s Village. The Steam Key is already tied to another account, so I essentially paid $5 for a fancy coaster.
I bought this back around 2014 on the PS3, I saw it on PSN and was like "Oh cool, they finally made another game like Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance!" then I started playing it and immediately realized they did not quite do that. It was deflating. BG: DA is one of the only Co op games I've sat there and played all the way through with someone else who was also glued to the screen.
I bought this game on sale during a steam sale back in 2013. I played it for 32 minutes according to my steam account and I've completely forgotten about it until now
My guess: They threw together a prototype with placeholder graphics and sounds so the team could hash out features. Then a suit saw it and said “ship it”
I played through this game twice when I was in Jr High 10 years ago because I had no idea that Baldur's gate and such existed and couldn't tell a good game from a bad, I just wanted more D&D. The missing textures and stuff always bothered me and I had no idea why they wouldn't fix them. The only good thing that came out of this game was me researching and using the Zhents as the main bad guys in my first campaign with my buddies and they still remember them.
Man, I wish they still MADE D&D games :( Off the top of my head, the last D&D based RPG that was released was...... the expansion pack for NWN2 probably? 14 years ago or something? Hopefully BG3 doesn't suck.
I actually tried this game. The part where you have to stop the ballista fucked me. I remember ignoring every single enemy just to wail on the ballista but it would only get to half health before reaching the objective making me lose
Ugh why did you have to remind me of Sword Coast Legends, I was fortunate enough to have a game-breaking bug in a boss fight that convinced me to just uninstall it instead of trying to slog through the rest of that mess.
I got Sword coast Legends shortly before it was taken down from steam (they run a sale prior to removing it). It wasn't *terrible* Unity game, but does anybody know _why_ they took it down - I suspect to not hurt reputation further (lol.) ?
Wow, it's been awhile since i've played this... I actually enjoyed it, up until I found out the level limit was 10... However, here are a few things I learnt through my playthrough of the Elven Rogue: It's hard to tell while playing, but you can actually charge up your abilities before casting them by holding the button down, you should be able to see the aura around your character change. With the Elven Rogue the first ability is a charge-up shotgun affect, without charging it shots only a few arrows, but after charging you can release a ton more. I find this is one of the easiest abilities to see charge up as you can see a little cone appear in front of your character which widens the longer the button is held down. Also, regarding sneak attacks - the first two of the rogues abilities apply status effects such as fear or blind which allows for easier backstabs - as per the aura around the character, it's hard to tell that an enemy is blinded as they will still swing randomly around themselves when blinded (and as you noticed, playing solo you tend to get swarmed by mobs). I actually found these status ailments made it easier to solo many mobs/bosses due to the crowd control capabilities - just my two cents though. Also, pressing F1 will enable all graphical settings back to default, pressing any other F# key will disable a certain part of the graphics... Makes me feel like I'm playing something out of the predator universe Lastly, apparently Steam's Remote Play Together is a work-around to get co-op working on this - with all the downsides associated with it (but hey, it's something at least). Edit to add; there is a fix to the missing textures on equipment! "you can edit the DefaultGame.ini like described here pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Dungeons_%26_Dragons:_Daggerdale#Missing_textures Go to \DnDGame\Config\ Open DefaultGame.ini. Go to MAGIC PROPERTIES Replace every instance of VisualEffect= with ;VisualEffect= Save your changes and close the file." You can also poke around the config file as they are readable/editable in plain text (want to edit how your fighter starts?)
Yes you can, because there was always local co-op in the game, meaning you can play it with someone else on the same machine. Idk why author completely missed that aspect. Then there is "Steam Remote Play" which allows your friends to join your local game that you would stream to them.
A good multiplayer game would balance the gameplay so it’s fun alone with any class and even more fun with friends and all four classes working together. It wouldn’t do what this game does and just, assume you’re going to rope three friends to play it with you (not that that’s even possible anymore) by giving the enemies huge health bars that don’t scale to the number of players and making it so that each class needs the other three in order to function is just bad game design that can be fixed by giving the other classes skills that allow them to survive on their own. Maybe make the wizard able to put down a double as a distraction or have the rogue go invisible or have the fighter have a dodge roll in addition to the guard, they’re not really DnD stuff but it would have made the game more, able to play xD So I agree with you it’s not forgivable game design, you shouldn’t design your multiplayer just assuming all your classes will be in play at any time (it’s not a DnD game so it’s not a fair comparison but Deep Rock Galactic does a great job of making all the classes fun and viable to play alone but way more fun with all four working together, if you’re designing a game that has four class multiplayer I would look at that game and see the experimentation they went through to arrive what makes it work so well)
I remember when this came out on Xbox Live on the 360. Me and an internet buddy bought it day one, finished all four characters, each, and just started joining random people's lobbies and just talking on voice chat. It was a terrible game, we got stuck in carts, walls, you name it. It was fun for like a week, but that week made me want them to actually finish the game. Sad it never got updated.
I played this game some years ago (solo) and I found it passable, but forgetable. If I might suggest, try Chronicles of Mystara on Steam. I believe that one can still play that multi-player, but it's great fun solo still with very distinct classes. It's basically two incredible arcade games with enhancements.
Worth noting: Any game with dead multiplayer servers that also supports LAN play can be played online via Kali, the oldest and bestest of the Pre-Steam gaming communities.

@@mustangmckraken1150 "how good DnD Online was" it's still good! Haha
when this came out, it was awesome! it was simple and co-op and ticked enough boxes to be fun for about 20 hours. for $15 bucks, that was a steal
To clarify, I own the CD
It's not nearly the worst lol, the internet inflates it a lot. It's pretty mediocre though when you compare it to games like Neverwinter Nights and the Darksun SSI games.
On Console (Xbox 360) it actually did well (or as well as can be expected)
Same tbh me and my bestfriend played this alot haha
@@mustangmckraken1150 hard to compare many dnd games against NwN.

I got this game as a teen, and even poor judgment wasn't enough to get me to think it was worth finishing. Pretty sure I made it through the first act, got some magic armor that turned my whole character grey, and called it quits.
Honestly, being rocketed skyward with the teleport was the most interesting mechanic this game had.
Woah, someone who doesn't just straight up shit on 4th edition when it's mentioned? Much appreciated, it's disheartening how a lot of people talk about my favourite edition of the game.
It was a controversial statement, according to my comments section haha
@@WilliamSRD Fitting like a tee for a *decidedly* controversial edition, I should think.
@@marcush4741 (X) DOUBT

Check out DnD stronghold if you haven't. I had it as a kid. DnD city builder typer game where you don't have direct control over anything and watch stuff play out. I still got the box and floppy disks.
That purple jumpsuit your halfling is wearing the whole game is just incredible 🤣🤣
It's called fashion, Crowe. LOOK IT UP
I played many hours of hero's of the lance. It was actual a very strategic game. You needed to use the characters in the correct order. After many attempts I finally recovered the relic lol. Pool of radiance was a really good game
I love when in RPGs they use the word "Adventurer" to mean "Globetrotting Murderhobo"
'Noble adventurer' -> 'mercanary whackjob whose in it for the violence, the gold is a side benefit'

Lol, I shared this before you mentioned the "300 likes" and I already gave it a thumbs-up.
Totally subbing for that if it happens :D
You're the best!

Hey, since you like that post so much, are you interested in looking at some RPG supplements? :P
@@rpgcraftsman520 Sure! @ me with them on Twitter and I'll happily take a look! Can't guarantee I can cover them on the channel though, since I sort of move where the algorithm is giving me traction on any given week, and right now it's video games and 40k roleplaying stuff
Oh man. I remember when I saw stuff for this and I was absolutely stoked. I always wanted to play D&D growing up, but I never could find anyone that wanted to play it. I thought this game could scratch the itch, and a friend of mine suggested that we convince another friend to get it so we could all play it together. I played the demo and saw immediately how trash the game was going to be, and told him not to waste his money on it.
Look on reddit, games events, board game shops, etc around your area.
You will find people to play with !
@@kuhaku9587 don't worry, mate. I have been able to play D&D since this time. I have been part of 2 campaigns, and currently running my own stuff for 2 different groups. I was even able to branch out to different systems like Call of Cthulhu and Stars Without Number. D&D 5e may have its drawbacks, but it really was the best system to get people into Table Top RPGs.
I gotta be honest, the quality of this video had me thinking that you had at least a couple hundred thousand subscribers. I was quite surprised to see 5k. needless to say, I'm subbed now, and I expect that you will grow quite considerably in the next few months.
Thank you so much!

I have PTSD of sorts with this game.... I really tried to get into it...
But the only take away was trying halfling wizards/sorcerers in my pnp games and loving it! Short lil spellcasters that are harder to hit, and had some decent racials (and not gnomes!)
no, no, no, the worst DnD game of all time was "Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor". Was so bad that at the time if you unninstalled it (Something you will do almost inmediately) damaged the operating system. And the combat was atroccious, so bad that was unplayable.
At least daggerdale was playable, but boring.
Do you mean Ruins of Myth Drannor? Attack was the module for tabletop, but they used the same art.
@@honorableintent yeah. same one.
Some games are so mediocre that they don't even deserve to be remembered or reviewed in a RUclips video as one of the worst games. The worst games doesn't deserve to be on a podium whatsoever. This is one of them
Wow I didn't even know this game existed! I'm usually partial to a D&D computer game, so I'm surprised I missed this one. By the sounds of it, I didn't miss much!
I honestly had a soft spot for this game! But it was also my first exposure to anything dnd related and got me interested !
I, uh... Think you've reached that 300 like metric. Side note cheers and thank you for the lovely content, here's an obligatory engagement comment for the Algorithm.
I came for your LEGO Rock Raiders video, but I stayed for all your D&D content. You also kinda remind me of Clint from Lazy Game Reviews (more commonly known these days as LGR) in both personality and presentation, so all in all, I’ve been having a lot of fun watching your wealth of content. Keep up the good work! 😊
I spit out my beer when the lady in white got backstabbed 🤣🤣😂
I think the voice acting was actually pretty ok from what is shown in the video. Having said that, i know i will never play this, thank you for doing it so we dont have to. Very funny and entertaining video, keep up with the amazing work :D
I know (well, knew, it's been a while...) one of the developers behind this game. I remember he was so frustrated and upset with the poor reviews after launch, not because he thought the game was better than it really was, but because the entire team had worked SO HARD with the resources and the deadline they had. He said he was really proud of what they managed to deliver under the horrible circumstances.
Just goes to show that you can work really hard and be passionate about something and itstill turns out to be be a pile of garbage anyways.
I played this with a friend one evening back when it came out. I remember our character textures disappearing with certain armor equips (like in your video), and to this day we periodically imitate the dwarf grunt "voice acting." We quit playing when my inventory spontaneously disappeared.
It felt like to me they wanted to make a 3D version of Capcoms Arcade games but missed the point badly.
I have a working theory that EVERYONE played this game, and we've just collectively forgotten due to some unknown trauma
@@WilliamSRD Absolutely true. Because I was just watching your video out of curiosity and then as soon as I saw the heroes all of my repressed memories just came back to me 🤣
@@WilliamSRD there's a spell woven into the code/user interface of the game that erases the memories of anyone who plays it
Temple of elemental evil at launch at least was completely unplayable. Not sure if they fixed it. I spent an hour to try to get past the first screen of bugs, crashing, ui glitching
I feel like some mod love would actually make this a fun game. Pseudo-multiplayer modded servers and some audio mixing could really step this up. Along with some stability patches of course.
I like discovering channels like this one and being pleasantly surprised. Subbed and liked, love this kinda content.
I finished this game like 14 times according to my parents, but Ive never remembered this game.
I played and beat this game with my brother, multiple times on our 360 when I was a teenager and then never thought about it again until today
Got Heroes of the Lance running in about 10 mins using Mesen, also quit it in about 5 mins lol. I salute you if you force your way through that.
It really captured that early 4e feeling of enemies taking forever to bring down.
I was watching this thinking "wow that game looks bad" only to find out that I also already owned it and have logged 90 clearly forgettable minutes in it.
This has been a surprisingly universal experience!
(4th ed was particularly, uh, 'launched to mixed receptions' because lmfao tabletop WoW p much)
When you throw a hammer at a barrel, it makes a pretty satisfying "clunk" noise.
I got nothin' outside of that. 😅
The "big year for them" had me laughing out loud haha
The Gamma World game has been released? I thought some footage was shown at E3 and that was it for that game?
The TSR branded D&D games from the 90s and early 2000s were frequently awful with terrible interfaces, game play, and story lines. I can remember returning at least 3 of them for being terrible.
You're nuts. They were awesome. D&D converted directly to the PC. Now maybe they don't survive the test of time, but... No.
I just found the channel, but yeah... I love video games summaries/Reviews. Specially when they suck
Well, there's more coming now that I see that I like making 'em and the internet likes watching 'em!

As some one that's played this game to completion so many years ago, the best thing to come out of it was the dragonborn grabbing the dwarf and just point blank firebreathing his face off.
Five seconds in "Sorry, we have no time for long explanations", i.e. we were given five minutes to write this dialogue and have no idea what's going on
The Gamma World videogame was never released. I don't even know if it was ever finished.
Bought this game at Best BUY when it came out, because i was jonesing for a DnD game. Got miffed when I got it home, and found that I had bought a STEAM key, not a physical media. So this, was my 1st ever STEAM game. Then I had to make a Gamespy account. Went thru all that, only to find...what you talked about above. 23 minutes...thats my total playtime.
You know it won't be DnD in the slightest when character choices are: Human human, Hairier human, Taller human and Short human.
What kind of dev goes Elven Rogue and Halfling Wizard... those seem reversed to anybody else?
So Rezlus is a Lawful Based Warlock?
This game was my first arpg experience on the 360 back in 2011, I loved it. Purchased it with micrsoft points from bing searche rewards. Maxed every class aside from ranger.
This is why I always enjoyed the ways they made more classic PC games. Wc3 d2 dungeon siege.. if servers were down for multi player but you had friends available who wanted to play it was possible to set up Lan connection. That's not even possible for most games these days
Anybody knows if DaggerDale is somewhere near the Sword Coast? Along the Rapier Road and then left through the Axen Valley maybe?
Its near the Moonsea and the forest of Cormanthor. Pretty darn close to Eliminster's home of Shadowdale.
Isn't yge camera supposed to be Top down like Diablo?
A D&D game that does not allow you to make your own character? Where do I not sign up?
Found this one in a bargain bin for like $8 back in the day... I spent far too much. That Blue look, that is really all I remember, think I was green once too.
I have this game on disc. Paid $5 for it at a Vendor’s Village.
The Steam Key is already tied to another account, so I essentially paid $5 for a fancy coaster.
omg, this is actually in my steam library. I am now compelled to (try) playing it (again), because I'm a masochist that way.
This game is stunningly visually similar to Kingdom of Amalur! The UI looks almost identical!
Glad this came up on my recommended, may the algorithm be in your favour 🤙

You blew past that three hundred likes. Great video!
I bought this game on sale during a steam sale back in 2013. I played it for 32 minutes according to my steam account and I've completely forgotten about it until now
My guess: They threw together a prototype with placeholder graphics and sounds so the team could hash out features. Then a suit saw it and said “ship it”
Ah yes, Daggerdale. Along with Daggerdan and Daggerdave, part of the infamous D&D Weird Uncle trilogy.
Tragically the dissipated, alcoholic one of the trio too.
I got Daggerdale a few years ago. I'm so sorry you played it. I bought it for 5 bucks and I wanted my money back.
I fucking bought this game at Walmart for like 20 bucks. It never ran. It just created repeatedly. Fuck this game lol
Would Solasta, Call if the Magistrate be considered a DND game, or a game with 5E mechanics?
Man, I wish they still MADE D&D games :( Off the top of my head, the last D&D based RPG that was released was...... the expansion pack for NWN2 probably? 14 years ago or something? Hopefully BG3 doesn't suck.
I actually tried this game. The part where you have to stop the ballista fucked me. I remember ignoring every single enemy just to wail on the ballista but it would only get to half health before reaching the objective making me lose
I'm surprised there hasn't been a mod to replace the Gamespy login with something else, like direct Steam co-op.
so 9k likes and a year later, I will have to check if there is a video on Hero's of the lance.
However, here are a few things I learnt through my playthrough of the Elven Rogue:
It's hard to tell while playing, but you can actually charge up your abilities before casting them by holding the button down, you should be able to see the aura around your character change.
Makes me feel like I'm playing something out of the predator universe
Lastly, apparently Steam's Remote Play Together is a work-around to get co-op working on this - with all the downsides associated with it (but hey, it's something at least).
Edit to add; there is a fix to the missing textures on equipment!
"you can edit the DefaultGame.ini like described here
pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Dungeons_%26_Dragons:_Daggerdale#Missing_textures
Go to \DnDGame\Config\
Open DefaultGame.ini.
Go to MAGIC PROPERTIES
Replace every instance of VisualEffect= with ;VisualEffect=
Save your changes and close the file."
You can also poke around the config file as they are readable/editable in plain text (want to edit how your fighter starts?)
If steam remote play is slow you can always try moonlight or parsec.
In the absence of GameSpy, is it possible to play co-op via LAN or a direct connection?
Yes you can, because there was always local co-op in the game, meaning you can play it with someone else on the same machine. Idk why author completely missed that aspect. Then there is "Steam Remote Play" which allows your friends to join your local game that you would stream to them.
@@Woodsie_Lord Neat
A good multiplayer game would balance the gameplay so it’s fun alone with any class and even more fun with friends and all four classes working together. It wouldn’t do what this game does and just, assume you’re going to rope three friends to play it with you (not that that’s even possible anymore) by giving the enemies huge health bars that don’t scale to the number of players and making it so that each class needs the other three in order to function is just bad game design that can be fixed by giving the other classes skills that allow them to survive on their own. Maybe make the wizard able to put down a double as a distraction or have the rogue go invisible or have the fighter have a dodge roll in addition to the guard, they’re not really DnD stuff but it would have made the game more, able to play xD
So I agree with you it’s not forgivable game design, you shouldn’t design your multiplayer just assuming all your classes will be in play at any time (it’s not a DnD game so it’s not a fair comparison but Deep Rock Galactic does a great job of making all the classes fun and viable to play alone but way more fun with all four working together, if you’re designing a game that has four class multiplayer I would look at that game and see the experimentation they went through to arrive what makes it work so well)
I remember when this came out on Xbox Live on the 360.
