I want to let you all know that I am doing this to help spread the word of my knowledge on the sport to bring more interest into the seminars that my wife and I have been hosting around the world.... The best thing you could do is to spread the word about this RUclips Channel and to get this info out there for people to use. There isn't enough solid resources for information with experience to back it up and there is a huge void with first hand experience as a top level archer. Even Nusensai is looking... Cool stuff :-) really happy with this info here... I guess there are a lot of different styles to learn but not much info about it. I'm glad to suck all the info in to me to make it work for me. All this small details give me a hint I did not receive yet from our couchs. Thanks again!
Comprehensive AND concise and with clear simple explanations of the physical forces that these techniques are working with. Absolutely terrific videos. Next step for me: share link on my clubs WhatsApp group. Many thanks
Thanks again for doing this, there is as you say, a huge void in real experience out there! In the UK, most of our coaches shoot barebow or come from a barebow background and even the county level (lvl2) coaches that I've come across so far don't seem to properly understand Olympic Recurve. Hearing from someone that's been there, done it, and lived it, makes a big difference!
It occurred to me that we're making the same set of videos. Except, I'm working backwards through the cycle for some reason. Just finished watching this one while doing SPTs. Excellently explained. Felt like I was hearing it from Coach Lee again.
That’s funny. I’m glad other people are spreading the gospel of Coach Lee. You have the ability to explain it from a fresh set of eyes which will help people a lot especially after they go snow-blind from the information dump that is my videos haha.
It makes some sense to start at the end. I never fully understood the set position until I started to really study the release. By working backwards you can see what each position is progressing towards.
I just wanted to thank you. I am relatively new to archery. My wife and I started a few months ago and instantly fell in love with traditional recurve. We don't know anyone in the sport to guide us so we hunted all over RUclips and found you. Your videos are so wonderful and easy to follow without too much information to get lost in. We have seen our skill level vastly improve since we found your videos. I can't thank you enough for taking the time to share your insights with people like us. We cannot even begin to express our gratitude. We will be buying your books and using your affiliate links as a token of our appreciation.
You just solved a medical mystery. My index finger in my right hand went numb and we thought it was arthritis. It just started happening after months of 50 arrows a day training. Dude I don’t know how to thank you!
@@JakeKaminskiArchery love it man. I’m seriously considering the live coaching. It would be a bit complicated to arrange it though because I live “across the pond”
Total neophyte here. Choice was either golf or archery. I had known that each was a technical skill set that would take time and patience. I chose archery. Just now getting that its form first, then hitting the target. Thanks Jake for a superb job explaining all the specifics in body position. Great on you for sharing your knowledge with us sir!!
Jake, Listened to you on PUSH podcast which led me to you you tube channel. Your instruction on how to hook the bowstring properly with 80 % pressure on index finger saved me from continued pain and a swollen middle finger!!! and the smooth release as a result has tightened my groups immensely. I can't thank you enough Thank you!!! I will be watching all your videos!!!
I've worked as an engineer, contractor, and as a Physical Therapist's Asst, and have to compliment you on your content and delivery. I've committed to correcting >30 years of bad form and tuning habits. My repetitive motion injuries have been exacerbated by overuse during work related tasks. These Form Series videos are top-class seminars provided for free. I was shooting 38 on average and now in a week, I am shooting 50. Thank you so much for this informations.
Mr. Jake, I'm getting tighter groups as getting the thumb on the pinky finger is resulting in uniform tension in the hooking fingers. Its really amazing, so thanks a lot for helping me out Mr. Jake. Good Day!
Jake I wish I I had this very helpful info before shooting at Rio because the the time I got there I had numb fingers from gripping to deep . Thank you for keeping up this great info .
This series is great. All the readings I have done is "live" now by your great presentation. You also clarify people's uncertainties or even 'arguments' on every details. Very much looking forward to the coming episodes in the series. I can feel that I am 'fixing' my shooting problems gradually. Thanks again.
More brilliant explanations, I have addressed my incorrect grip, was pushing against the pivot point. So now I have discovered the correct pressure point I have found stability and lost about 1/2" draw length which suits me very well. 32" draw on 70" limbs squeezes my fingers together and the index finger gets pushed off the string so losing draw length is good.
Hey, Jake, I just wanted to come back and say these two vids helped me a lot. I changed from life long right handed shooting to left handed shooting a short while ago. I was fortunate to find these vids, as they are helping me fine tune the move from right to left. First, the finger length talk and hook and so on section--great. I see my left hand as my stupid hand even though I finger guitar with it, so your vid helped with the hook. But the great thing was showing the twist at the waist. When I drew with my right hand this was all natural, as I throw baseball right handed, but when I switched I knew I had to do it, but I didn't have the right image or words to make it so. Now it's more natural. Sweet. Thanks.
I keep returning to this video because this is the area & release are always where I have problems. Watching it again because my form has gone backwards and so have my scores but the first time I watched this and addressed these areas my scores went up dramatically. Thanks for explaining everything clearly and concisely.

Thanks Jake, the best and most useful video to date - at least for me. I'd be very interested to know when using barebow how keeping your wrist bent away would work at your hand is against your face. perhaps you could cover that in a barebow specific video if you decide to take up the black arts.
Thank you! Jake. Iam at the range shoting in the black and blue, sat down watched this video shot another set now iam in the gold and red :) thx. I will start supporting when i have built up my gear some more, archery is expensive :)
Thank you for your form series! As a Barebow shooter, your stance video helped me get more inside the bow with better alignment and draw weight support along my skeletal structure (I'm not feeling the draw weight as much as before). This video helped me have a stronger bow arm by having a grip with better support from bone and further reducing the feeling of the draw weight at full draw. I've been hitting more tens and Xs than ever before on a 40cm face, 18m, and hit my PB of 276 on a WA 300 round. Thanks again!
Hi Jake , can you do a video on finger tabs, the right purchase , setup,( finger spacing to prevent pinching the nock, arrow / nock clearance, cutting the excess material etc etc. Thanks in advance. Keep up the great series and work👍
Hey Jake. I absolutely love your videos so much!!! I follow you and learn and teach the NTS system. I’m doing what you say about everything. However, I can’t or let me rephrase that, I’m finding it difficult to anchor under my chin bc I’m basically, head and shoulders. I have no neck to speak off. I’m built short and squat and probably crushed a few vertabrae during my football career. (Figuratively speaking)! But I’m doing what’s good for me with my hand size and my thick neck and no neckness. But I’m not giving up on working on making my form the best I can do. Thanks Jake.
Hi Jake Glad I came across this video because I've been having trouble keeping my form still before shooting. Changed my hook by pushing my fingers inwards rather than outwards (which is the natural thing to do) when placing my fingers and drawing the string (5.50)
Many thank yous for the explanation "index: back tension. Lower and middle: bicep." I did some changed to my grip and while I'm still in the conscious stage where I'm having to think through the form change, I can notice I'm cleaner and grouping tightening in about a ring.
Thanks so much for so generously sharing your knowledge! I have just started learning archery and found all your videos super helpful! I can properly without the fingertab but after wearing the fingertab, i cannot tell if i'm hooking correctly because the leather is on the string instead of my fingers. Do you have a video where you demonstrate how to hook correctly when wearing a fingertab?
Love the video it has helped me to get through some form problems. like getting my finger position on this string correct, so don't have to end up with a weird angle in my wrist, so I can place my hand under my face correct. Thanks for the help
Hi Jake, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge in a true and down to earth manner, I can't stress enough how much this is helping me to progress. Like others I can't get to London this month to join you and was wondering if you intend to more seminars in the uk? Thanks. Jon
Thank you for the great explanation details on the basic hook and grip- what do you do with your breath at the start, setup and through any shot to the end? Many thanks
Okay, I'm confused on one point. First time at the archery range today and my arrow kept coming off the rest as I went into full draw. I was careful not to pinch the nock. You said to start at the fingertip and "roll in" your fingers into position. I haven't tried this yet but it seems like that would cause your string to twist in a direction that would cause your arrow to come off the rest? I am in no way doubting your teachings, just trying to wrap my brain around it. And thank you very much for your tutorials, they are my go to for this new challenge.
Thank you for this great series Jake. It would be very helpful if you could cover finger tabs topic; especially customization aspect and how it affects the hook.
Thank you Jake, would you please explain what is the significance of the ring finger?! Some archers even top ones specially women, have a loose ring finger!
Hi Jake - first of all thank you so much for all of these excellence videos, I've learned a ton from watching. I had a question on grip that also relates to the loading part of the cycle. In the loading video you mention the bow rotating as you move from rotating for alingment to loading the bow. I'm curious how to get my grip set properly during set up when the grip changes substantially when the bow rotates later in the shot. I'm struggling a bit getting a consistent grip after the bow rotates and I'm not sure if theres something I'm missing with my initial grip set or if the grip should not be moving as the bow rotates (and if that's the case is there a trick to avoiding that). Thank you so much!
Hi Jake, Thanks for all the great information. I would like to understand the reason why you suggest to "squeeze" the throat of the grip on it's side wall? ( video time : 22:10). Is there any reason for it? Thanks in advance! :)
Good video very informative. Quick question: What's with the 'forward flick' of the bowhand as the shot is delivered??? If the pressure is low on the heel of the bow hand that forward 'flick' doesn't seem possible!!!
Thanks for such a great videos, Jake. I appreciate what you do, specially for those whom have been struggling with this. I got a question about a different issue: Wish shape of feather should I use on a Recurve bow? It has 55 lb draw. Thanks in advance.
Dear Jake, when I am pushing my bow hand towards the target and also follow "pinky back - thumb forward" recommendations, then changing the position of pinky and thumb fingers also changes the position of the bow and also my wrist wants to be envolved and moves forward. Do you have more videos about grip?
Rookie archer from over the pond in the UK. Enjoyable and powerful information - thank you! Question regarding thumb/pinkie distance and wrist alignment (~13min into vid) - I’m hyper mobile and seem to be able to flex wrist outward whilst maintaining distance between digits. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the series and all the tips. It helps so much. Please keep going on. It’s much appreciated!!!
Thank you.
Thanks for this very helpful video, it clarified posture to have.
So informative! All the videos are fantastic. Thank you so much
Thanks for the support!
This is a really great series, thanks for sharing. I shoot traditional/instinctive but there are still some good tips to be used.
Thanks
Thanks so much for so generously sharing your knowledge! I have just started learning archery and found all your videos super helpful! I can properly without the fingertab but after wearing the fingertab, i cannot tell if i'm hooking correctly because the leather is on the string instead of my fingers. Do you have a video where you demonstrate how to hook correctly when wearing a fingertab?
Love the video it has helped me to get through some form problems. like getting my finger position on this string correct, so don't have to end up with a weird angle in my wrist, so I can place my hand under my face correct. Thanks for the help
Boom! Revelations 😯👏
Thank you
Hi Jake,
thx again!
Im gonna have to watch this video a buch of times
Very helpful had wondered about this.
Hi Jake, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge in a true and down to earth manner, I can't stress enough how much this is helping me to progress.
Like others I can't get to London this month to join you and was wondering if you intend to more seminars in the uk?
Thanks. Jon
We are open to any seminar anytime as long as there is interest in us being there for sure.
Thank you so much for this video and this video is very nice
Thank you for the great explanation details on the basic hook and grip- what do you do with your breath at the start, setup and through any shot to the end?
Many thanks
Grazie.
Thanks for the super thanks!
Great tips - thanks !!!
Please kindly explain regarding whether we should using finger sling on compound bow.
Thank you Jake!
Great video and great effort, thanks Jake, keep it up please!
Will do!
This is amazing. When I try the hook and grip the way you describe it it almost feels impossible to draw wrong.
Thank you for this great series Jake. It would be very helpful if you could cover finger tabs topic; especially customization aspect and how it affects the hook.
Will do.
This is so helpful!
Hi Jake, I am very interested in the response also
Good video very informative.
For future video in the finger hook do you trim your finger tab and if so could you discuss this process
I’ll do that in a future episode. Good idea.
Thanks for quick reply. Love your work
Great content, thank you so much!
Dear Jake, when I am pushing my bow hand towards the target and also follow "pinky back - thumb forward" recommendations, then changing the position of pinky and thumb fingers also changes the position of the bow and also my wrist wants to be envolved and moves forward. Do you have more videos about grip?
Okay. I've been doing bare finger no gloves no tab. Quickly learning to put the string in better position.
Love what you are doing, could you do a vid on excercises and training practices?
Will do.
hi just wondering if you can help me with releasing the string -what to do with your fingers to get a good release can you help
Thank you
How would you modify the hook instructions here for shooting 3-under?
What do you do about grip on the bow if your hand sweats to prevent slipping?
Rookie archer from over the pond in the UK. Enjoyable and powerful information - thank you! Question regarding thumb/pinkie distance and wrist alignment (~13min into vid) - I’m hyper mobile and seem to be able to flex wrist outward whilst maintaining distance between digits. Any thoughts?
Is using a finger spacing a must because I don’t so how to know if I need to use it or not ?
