As a smaller player, i never got angry when i got lit up because typically i was able to use my positioning and low center of gravity to avoid it but there were a few where i just got messed up. Part of the game.

The reason why players get into scrums after hits, even if clean, is because you don't want the other team thinking they can just run all over you guys with no repercussions. The more players get hit, the more they get worn down and can risk injury. Sticking up for your teammate after a hit shows that you aren't going to be pushed around as easily. Pretty basic concept to grasp if you actually watch the sport.

The greatest players don't get pissed off from a good hit, they recognize that they fucked up from not seeing it coming, then they move on.
Every time now that there's a big hit it's like an automatic brawl to fight instead of playing off that intensity now they squash that momemtum instantly.

Watching Reeves on the Rangers for a season and change - expect him to have no impact whatsoever. He was great in the locker room, but he did absolutely nothing as players were slew footed, goalie ran every night, late hits, etc. He fought 2 or 3 times and it was always like a personal grudge, never because the team needed it or trying to turn the tide. He is not an enforcer by any definition of the word. Just a guy who can fight. That's why he was traded. He was just taking up a roster spot and not helping the cause.
Remember when you could check someone and not have to fight afterwards? This is what really slows down the NHL and turns people away from it. Mostly, and from what I've understood from compilation since I never read the rulebook, hits are to be upper body to upper body contact only (shoulder to shoulder, shoulder to torso...) But any hit to the head, legs can be extremely dangerous and cause concussions or just KO and they're illegal. I believe that hockey hits are harder than in football because of the speed players can reach but also the physique necessary is different between the two sports. But I'd have to read about it as well.
