Poplar at 1 is plenty viable, even if it's at 1! Most decks use Snake-Eyes as an engine anyways, so having 1 Poplar rather than 2 or 3 is ideal. Even pure Snake-Eyes is still viable, but it really sucks to hard draw Poplar since it makes your 1st turn board much weaker. I personally don't use it, but adding Birch is good to replace the 2nd Poplar.
