Chrissie sounds absolutely as fantastic as ever. And the whole band really is tight. Excellent control of their exact sound. This is so well done in all respects. So nice to hear and see!
To those of you criticizing not hearing Pretenders' "Hits", Joni Mitchell said it best: "No one ever asked Van Gogh, Hey play a Starry Night again, man!" I'm glad to hear newer music.
I get what everyone says about being a fan but it’s not unreasonable saying you’d like to hear their most famous songs. In a lot ways their hits can be considered their “best” songs, it’s why they became their biggest hits. I’d be disappointed if I didn’t get to hear brass in pocket, don’t get me wrong, my city was gone, human (one of my favs) If you’re touring 40 years after they were hits, u should know the people showing up are older and would like ro hear at least 5 songs that they’ve loved for a lifetime. That’s not unreasonable or being a fickle fan. The fans showing up THIS long after those songs were on the radio should be seen as being pretty faithful as it is
@@chriscastillo4275 Yes, "Human" is a great song, but it's a cover (better than the original) - would you expect to hear "Biker"? no, but they've played that (sept.11th 2024)
Chrissie can play whatever she wants and I would happily pay (“Biker” and “Tequila”?) and James Walbourne can get it any day of the week. What a fantastic talent he is - and he has really seemed to invigorate Chrissie as a creative partner.
Hyndes frye campus boots girl singer image of the 70s slowly morphed to heavier eye liner Joan Jett type bad azz lady guitarist persona. The band has had so many different members over its lifespan. Never thought of them as a solid full out rock band; but more of a soft grunge band with a few pop hits that charted big in the 80s or was it 90s? Glad that there is still a strong fan base enjoying themselves listening to this.
Never grunge. Punk roots turned to new wave with pop sensibilities. Debut album considered one of the greatest of all time. Once the death of Honeymann Scott never the same.
Just saw her sept 11th 2024 - and this band rocks!!! Her vocals sound like they do on the records, the band is super tight (I could do without THAT many guitar solos, but hey, the boy has been allowed to show off - Chrissie pointing "THAT is what rock'n'roll is all about") - they played both new songs, and some very old stompers, but omitted "I'll stand by you"..... Apparently they don't play the same setlist for an entire tour, to keep it fresh. (They did play for 2 hours, 27 songs!)
I read that Martin (now 72) can´t keep up with the touring demands on his body anymore.. and told Chrissie if she wanted to look for another touring drummer he would be OK with that.
Martin is semi retired from touring I believe. He is 73 and I read an interview where he said his body couldn´t take touring. He may play on future records though.
4:25 "I'm gonna kick that right out of your hand" The short answer is NO! Just saw her in Copenhagen sept. 11th 2024, and during the first song she wagged her finger and missed a line of singing... second song she wagged the angry finger again, missed a line or two again, and grabbed the side of her forehead with both hands, looking really frustrated. They did play 27 songs, played for 2 hours and said we were a great audience!! Only bummer was she didn't play "I'll stand by you" - maybe that was punishment?
Beatles fans said the same thing when they heard 'Revolver' and 'Sgt. Pepper's'. I too love the earlier tunes - and they're everywhere on the Internet - but if Chrissie is up for something new and different, well, it's her show. And we get to see it here at no charge.
Johnny Marr only was in for a cup of coffee and played on two songs. That's it. A shame they didn't keep him, but he was not part of the Pretenders sound at all.
I’m part of the Jim Honeyman-Scott, Pete Farndon original crowd. It’s hard to grow old! Was recently in Akron. Took my pic in front of Chrissie’s childhood home!

The show was in a small place for something like 300 viewers and Chrissie deserves much more than that especially in a place like Berlin.
