You didn't mention the P-38 can opener as a useful stocking-stuffer!😁
I did not. And you are the 2nd person to rightfully call me out for that.
What a great stocking stuffer, th P38 and/or P51 can opener!
Merry Christmas
Stay tuned for my list of Non Military Surplus gifts for the survivalis, outdoors, camping, prepper.
How about a Stocking Stuffer in the form of the German Ezbit Stoves! One would fit Perfectly in the British Bag and those Swedish Cooking pots will set just Perfectly fine as well as the Canteen cups. ( I Love my Ezbits and have been using them for Decades)
Ohhhh man... If I wake up Christmas morning and find one of those, I will be a happy boy.
Here at our house we don't actually use stockings. I am 1/8th Dutch so we use wooden shoes instead of stockings
Either way, I bet and Ezbit would fit.
Thank you.
@OliveDrabAlliance 👍👍
Shelter Half is in my top 5
Good call. Definitely worthy of being in the top 5.
Thank you!
There definitely needs to be an updated, lightweight version on the market! ……..and in my pack.
@MichaelJohnson-tw7dq agreed. There are a lot of civilian lightweight options, or.... check out Corprals Corner channel (if you haven't already) he has made shelters out of G.I. ponchos in about a million different ways, but yeah, I hear ya for sure. A new and improved G.P. Tiny would be nice.
Very enjoyable gift giving guide, thank you! 👍👍👍
I'm glad you liked it. I hope Santa brings you everything you put on your list.
Great suggestions that are useful, practical & won't break the bank
My number one gift would be a Vietnam-era e-tool and cover... Mine disappeared a few years ago.
Is that the one with the straight wooden handle?
@nathanmullins836 - yep! That's the one!
I hope you get one!
Mine is from '83
I hope Santa can issue you one from the year you hope for.
Thank you.
very nice! well done!!
Thank you very much!
I love the poncho liner, aka: woobie, & polypro thermal long johns. Toss in a fleece USMC beanie & I'm ready for a canteen cup of egg nog!
Heck yeah. I like your style.
Excellent (egg cellent) suggestions.
Thank you.
Merry Christmas John, interesting to read your stocking stuffers have to fit in a wooden shoe, a good list and well presented, thank you for posting.
Yeah, I grew up with the wooden shoes at Christmas and I've just kept it going with my kids and step kids. I've never had a Christmas Stocking.
Good Afternoon John ! Nice gifts. TAKE CARE..
You too.
Thank you and hopefully you are on Santa's Nice List and he brings you some goodies this year.
If he doesn't, it's OK. Sometimes his elves need the gear for themselves to carry out missions.
i would say "waffle" base layers would be another great item
I wasn't sure what a waffle base layer was, so I googled it.... it makes total sense now.
I totally agree. I'm that guy who gets all the mileage he can out of his snivel gear. I'm about 2 years past due to replace what I've got.
That would for sure be a great gift.
Thank you
For Christmas, I’m treating myself to a M-65 field jacket.
Nice.... I really do need to drop some weight, if for nothing else so I can fit into the good milsurp clothes and coats.
Merry Christmas and enjoy.
Thank you
some excellent choices there
Thank you, hopefully Santa brings you everything you want.
I definitely want the Brit Crusader canteen set... but I already spent enough money on myself for this Christmas 😅
I have TWO of those ORC Govt Contract Mfg ponchos. They ARE the real deal and One makes a first class Plow point shelter. Two make a great tent
Yes, ORC is the manufacturer and supplier to the U.S. Military. If you want the real deal, buy from them.
Thank you
Good stuff, ty for sharing
Thank you for watching. I've got to be honest.... so I might as well be honest with you. This week, both of my tripods broke, the mic jack on my phone broke. My phone is what I've always shot video with and it tool me 6 months to figure out to cut down on wind noise by using a corded mic with a dead cat muffler. So, I wanted to make sure to post a video this week, so I shot one in the barn to cut down on wind noise, but just today, I relieved in the mail a gopro hero 11. I. Hoping to figure out hiw to use it and make better videos. I prefer to be outside and I'm hoping the gopro will help with that even on days like today with 35mph winds.
Thanks for watching and stay tuned.
An emergency Spam opening P 38 can opener…Just in case the key breaks. I grew up on Rock too..,have fun stay safe
Awesome! A P38 and or P51 would make a great stocking stuffer.
Any survivalist or backpacker would love to have it!
Good gift ideas! Should we leave spam or cookies 🍪 for Santa?
SPAM or cookies???
My friend, Google the recipe for SPAM-Cookies and you will definitely make the "nice" list.
Habajhaba
Great ideas Buddy….
FYI… you can also use the sleeping pad to float on…believe it or not lol….
Another great gift idea would be a real GI issue lensatic compass 🧭
Thanks for sharing and take care brother…🪖🇺🇸
Without a doubt though….. the best gift would be a poncho and poncho liner or field jacket with the liner…👍🏻
Well.... maybe some people could float on it. 🤔
I'm sure it would provide some good buoyancy that could save a life in a pinch.
Thank you very much
I have the poncho and the sleeping pad.
I want a poncho liner( woobie ).
We had tons of the wool blankets when I was a kid.
I live near Woolrich,PA.
My oldest brother worked there and could get the army blankets cheap.
Great video
I hear the Swiss wool blankets are great, but I love my U.S. and my cheaper knockoff blankets. My main complaint about them is dog hair. YIKES!!!
Thank you.
Great list
Thank you very much. I hope Santa brings you everything on your list.
Respirator Mask is a great bushcraft haversack. I carry a canteen and Power bank in mine.
I carry a canteen and mess kit in the main compartment, Trangia fuel bottle on one side, Trangia stove on other side.
Thank you.
Hello John. Compliments of the season from across the pond. Or is it still a bit early ? That's a fine list of military surplus goodies there. I can personally vouch for the BCB crusader cook sets. I have the mark one in austenitic mill finish stainless and the mark two in anodised aluminium / aluminum / some kind of lightweight dark coloured non-ferrous metal whose name we struggle to agree upon. Mark one for the durability. Its stainless, it will last a heck of a long time. Mark two for the thermal efficiency. The shaped underside of the cup reduces heat loss from the flames licking up the sides, and wasting British Thermal Units. I designed a lid for my mark one from lasercut stainless steel to use up an old plastic saucepan knob. I had a look at the plastic lid and decided i didnt fancy hammer and chiselling melted plastic off the cup. I hope that Santa brings you your Poncho. Military surplus beats cheap overseas stuff every time. But it's a poncho. A garment designed to be worn over the upper half of the body. Does this mean that the Olive Drab Alliance is going to be subject of a high-level cover-up ?
Haha.... cover up.
I'm going "undercover".
Yeah, the black paint or whatever on my Crusader has steadily peeled off or chipped off since I first used it. I think I might just toss it in the fire and finish the job. It's good the hear from you and I hope everything is good where you are
Hello John. Thank you for your response. I hope that you're keeping well. Yes, we're doing good on this side of the pond. The weather hasn't been the greatest, but its always nice to get out with our two border collies, come rain or shine. That's the thing about having dogs from working parents, they don't mind the rain. And I guess that once Santa brings you a decent poncho, you will be good for a downpour too. Its the bad weather where the BCB cooker set comes into its own. I can get a hot cup of tea out in the countryside with minimum.hassle. Either earl grey with a slice of lemon, or english breakfast tea with a dollop of condensed milk. No powdered milk, because that rotten stuff is the invention of the devil. It puts a skin on my teeth, dammit. And of course, border collies being border collies , they are bright enough to keep away from the crusader cooker once it's lit up. We used to have a blue roan cocker spaniel. A very loving little chap. Always happy to be picked up for a cuddle. Long on ears. But short on brains. I had to make sure that he didn't go blundering into the crusader once I'd lit it up. People used to ask me if he was a working cocker spaniel. I would reply that with his limited brain-power, he was just about functional. I checked on the BCB website about the black coating on the mark one crusader set. Its a PTFE coating. They market it as being non-stick. It sounds like that includes not sticking to the stainless either ! I think maybe getting rid of the coating sounds like a good idea. Better it comes off the cup than going into your insides. I seem to recall a bloke on youtube being very uncomplimentary about the coating. I was a bit sceptical about the coating when i saw them in the army surplus store. That's why I plumped for the self colour stainless finish. And its been a great investment. Look after yourself, and your loved ones. And those handsome malinois dogs of yours. And happy trails, whatever the weather. All the best. Jan
They're all good things
Absolutely!
I hope Santa brings you something good thus year.
Thank you
I wouldn't mind at all receiving any of those for Xmas.
Actually, I'd be tickled pink!
Can't wait til your next vid.
👍
Edit: I'd add a G.I. 2qt. Collapsible canteen with cover, to the list.
I got one for my B-Day last year, and love the heck out of it!
That is awesome. I hope Santa is good to you this year.
I swear I have two 2 quart canteens around here somewhere, but we have some adventurous kids who sometimes borrow gear. I don't mind because they are having fun... I just wish they'd bring the gear back.
Thank you.
@OliveDrabAlliance
👍
Hey big brother that’s the Rothko version of our sleeping paid. We used the alpine sleeping pad. Which is a closed cell version..,??? I don’t know what kinda foam that is. That thing couldn’t insulate you against nothing. It’s a reproduction of it. But you can make your own just like that one with a real alpine sleeping pad. Just use superglue and duck tape. Once you roll it up, and then tie it off, select a spot and then glue and place the duck tape over that and you will have a USGI version with the tie straps. I used Velcro instead of ribbon ties.
SEMPER FI
Oh yeah, don't forget to take a Sharpie and write a bunch of last names on it.
(Just to be extra genuine)
Thank you
All good items. Now... I want 1860's surplus equipment... Can use it for CW, Indian War period or just plain old west presentations. A gray enameled coffee pot has been on my list for years. Unfortunately every one I find has pin holes in the bottom. Santa, I've been good. Well mostly good. Merry Christmas my friend. May all your wishes come true.
I hope Santa brings you one!
Thanks for watching
Thanks John, now I know what to get my girlfriend. ❤
Hahahahaa
She will LOVE it!
Thank you
Th cook kit probably is the Swedish, not the Swiss one.
Check for "Bordeflasche" that is the swiss one ;-)
I've noticed mine is kidney shaped and I've seen ones more oval shaped. I wonder if that is the difference???
How about a Coleman lantern. As for the real deal U.S.Army poncho. Iam lucky i got 3 of them 1 woodland cammo and 2 real deal. Olive drabs. Yes! Great kit to
have and look after.👌👍
That is awesome!
I do love Coleman stuff. I have 6 or 7 lanterns, but I really like the Stoves. A Coleman lanter is super handy (especially when it gets dark at 430pm like it does here)
Thank you
@OliveDrabAlliance Hi. Thanks for your reply. I've git 2 Coleman lanterns. 1 kerosene which i used a lot. The other is still new but a single mantle Dual fuel older version. Silver colour. Well here in Scotland it gets dark around the same time. Hard frost last night. As for the Coleman stoves i have 2 Peaks. 1 very old and still in use. The other was new but packed in on me. I will have to buy spares. The heat exchanger and internal wire broke. Stay safe keep warm and illuminated. 👍👍
Mr. Olive Drab... have I got the hook-up for you, and everyone reading this!!
Venture Surplus has a LOT of what you just covered, and more. (They even have USGI issued rucksack straps).
Don't dismiss the product because it may say "defective" because that means it may have writing on it or stained. Just read the description/s for more details.
Btw, they also have new and used stuff.
* I would add IFAK kits or supplies. A North American Rescue (NAR) CAT-7 tourniquet would be a life-saving gift to give to a loved one.
I was just doing some deep dive research because I want to do an in depth tourniquet video. I am a former EMT Basic and a current American Heart Association instructor so I figure I'd throw some first aid videos out every now ant then, but it has definitely been a while.
Thank you and YES! An excellent gift as long as they train and practice regularly
@@OliveDrabAlliance I was an EMT Basic too, about 400 years ago. I hit the NAR site on Black Friday and dumped the equivalent to a small country's GDP on med supplies: CAT 7's (5 of them, including pre packaged pre-made kits, hemostatic gauze for bleeding control, Israeli bandages (pack of 5), quick-deployment bags for all, and much more.
I shoot pow pows, as do a large percentage of your viewers I bet, and these are a necessity.
*Edit: I bet NAR would send you a "blue trainer" for free, for unlimited exposure, if you asked them.
Everyone should checkout the KaBar spork. Game changer over the spoons included in MRE’s
I've seen those but I've never used one... I'm going to have to checkbit out.
Thank you
@ we use to slip them into the Molle webbing on our vests so we always had a utensil with us.
1.) British Desert field pack DMP (similar to your gas mask without side molle)
2.) 45 Liter PRI Infantry Bergen Field Pack M169 British Desert DPM
3.) USGI MOLLE ACU DIG Tactical Fighting Load Carrier (Split front, H-harness, panel, not a vest and no integrated mag pouches)
4.) USMC Coyote Bandolier (The only US made bandolier with molle)
5.) ACU 40mm Grenadier pouch set. (bargain pouch deals won't last forever) Ugly made right with rit dye.
Excellent choices.
Hopefully Santa will issue you all the gear you ask for this year.
Thank you
The Ozark Trail folding shovel at Walmart for like $10 is well worth it, it's heavy too but just as tough as the usgi shovel. Try one out lol they're not the cheap junk amazon ones lol, I have a few of them and have had no issues. Also anything that says "style" is not true surplus, and is typically cheaper and not as tough as the real deal lol. 👍
Right on. When something says "military style" it means that it is a knockoff. I guess I figured everyone knew that, but maybe I should have been more clear on it.
killer gear
Thank you
@6:49 Everywhere I look the poncho is made in China. Where can I buy the real deal U.S. military poncho?
If it is not military surplus, I think it is made from different materials. Buying an item made of different materials defeats the purpose, right? The original is military tested and very durable. Not sure I want to spend $40+ dollars for something that won't last, or snaps rip out, or just fails to have the strength to use as a hammock.
How about a military pocketknife? I don't have a pocketknife, but I am not sure if a sak or military pocketknife is what I should get/give.
ORC Industries INC.
They are a U.S. manufacturer and military supplier. I believe the ponchos are $45 or so.
Thanks
Any of these would be nice to get. Those ponchos bring back some memories.
Do you remember the lovely odor of a new issued OD poncho? 🤮
Oh yeah. You just brought back some memories to me.
I think i will try to get one from O.R.C.
Thanks.... kinda.
(No really.... thanks)
Pancho Liner
Yes! An excellent gift that anyone who once was in the service will instantly appreciate. Anyone who wasn't will appreciate it very soon after getting it.
A top choice for gift giving for sure!
Thank you

Brit military protective mask carrier is my fav.
Instead of a watch cap, I wear my original 70’s helmet liner. Much warmer.
Nice. I was never issued a helmet liner (National Guard) or a watch cap. We had those BDU covers (caps) that had the flaps that folded down over the ears. We were issued Extreme Cold Weather hats. They kind of looked like hoods that you could button the flaps over your head or down around your face.
Thanks for watching
I have bunch of ACU issue items given to me by a friend who went down-range in Ratznestistan 2X like 12 yrs ago. A medium ruck, improved canteen holder, a “sustainment pouch” entrenching tool cover, PRC 148 radio pouch [kinda rare] and a bunch of other pouches of various sizes, a molle ready vest, a wind/rain proof outer jacket [really rare]. My friends have the latest OCP stuff but the ACU issue items are like retro cool now. And getting hard to find ones that aren’t overseas knockoffs. Go figure.
What? No spam?
I know.... I know....
I plan on doing a Non Military surplus gift video. I just picked up some Korean flavored SPAM... I believe it is a Walmart exclusive just introduced in July. So look for that.
Thank you!
@@OliveDrabAlliance what flavor are Koreans?
Walmart has regular, BBQ, Teriyaki, Lite spam. I recommend COOKING it before consuming. Walmart USED to carry non-meat, "vegan" spam from the Philippines. It was actually d*mn good. It needed cooking too.
@@OliveDrabAlliance Korean flavor? SPAM IS SOYLENT GREEN! 😱
@MichaelJohnson-tw7dq yes.... delicious, delicious Soylent Green.
Unfortunately my friend that is the Cold War era West German mess kit you did however have a Swedish windshield
It is my understanding that Switzerland, Sweeden, Germany and maybes Finland used the same mess kits at different times. The trick is to look for the stamping on it. The knock-off one is a copy of a German kit. I have a (supposedly) Soviet kit that is very similar ad many countries copied Germany. The "oval" shaped kits were used by Sweeden and Switzerland (perhaps others as well).
You may be correct, I would have to check the stamp on it. I believe Sweeden marked gear with 3 crowns.
Surplus Santa?
I really like the Surplus Santa thing. Somebody else said that here, but it is very clever and I am beating myself up for nit thinking of it before making thus video.
Hahahahahaha
Thank you
@OliveDrabAlliance keep it, it's fun
My go to army surplus item is a poncho liner. I have been sleeping under one for over 40 years. Knock offs suck. Buy a real army issue one.
They are great. I'm sure if I brought mine into the house the dogs would argue over it, so it stays safely tucked away in the garage. These dogs are serious about whose blanket is whose.
Thank you
No Woobie?
A week or two ago I gave my woobie to a friend. He helped me with one of my vehicles. A few days later he let me know his 3 year old confiscated it from him and there was no way to separate her and her new woobie.
Thanks for watching
@ 😊
You forgot to put me on your list😢
You are on a list..... the naughty list.
Hahahaha
Just kidding
Thank you
My e-tool says Ames 1967
Another commenter here was really wanting one from that era. If you're looking to sell it, hit him up.
What a great piece of gear. I'd bet yours will still dig a hole no problem.
Thank you very much
Thows sleeping pads or ice mats are just
junk there not Werth eney a Mont of
money a specially if its 20 and up
your just getting Ript off .
It's better than sleeping on the cold ground.
Thanks
@@OliveDrabAlliance true but still no good
