      @@laukaskiemas4930 I wear tshirts in the beginning of the year. They are in LA. Jan-Mar you're looking at what, 55-70 degrees? A tshirt is fine to wear with jeans. Not everyone lives where it's snowing and 30 degrees at the beginning of the year.

    there's actual science as to why Steven may have been the only one to quickly taste sweetness from the plain rice. Its dependant on how much amylase enzyme is in our saliva to break down the carbs.

    Steven, you are absolutely right when you said, "Oh rice is naturally sweet", as you had the first bite of Onigiri. Good rice (at least if it is good Japanese rice for an Onigiri) should taste 'sweet' which is a compliment for any rice (of course it shouldn't be due to the added sugar, like rice pudding, but naturally.)

    Steven is right when he says rice is naturally sweet, enzymes like amylase break down starch in the rice which becomes sugar

      Yes, and different type of rice has a different taste and level of sweetness, which is why I can eat rice on its own, or lightly flavored with sauce and nothing else. Maybe the other two didn't produce enough saliva to break down the starch or didn't chew long enough for the enzyme to work or were not good at picking up the subtle sweetness.

    Feels like they have focused the RICE of East Asia in the episode, justified since lots of places in America which offer rice dishes are with East Asia backgrounds. But South Asian countries like Sri Lanka, India, South East Asian countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand offers very different RICE dishes. They can do a whole season about rice and won't be able to cover half of everything 😃

      To be fair risotto is an Italian dish often eaten in regions where truffles are found so they often add it too risotto. Unlike in other episode where it's added randomly.

    They're REALLY good at describing food. Like when they first started the show they treated themselves more as just some guys who liked eating food, but throughout the show it's seemed like they got better and better at describing flavors and textures and their reactions to the food. That moment when Steven said he felt like his limbs were loosening as he ate the risotto was super impressive.

    When the pandemic is under control yall should visit Nish Dish in Toronto. It's just amazing. They specialize in Indigenous Anishinaabe ("Nish" is slang) cuisine. There's not a lot of spotlight on Indigenous foods and as an Anishinaabe person, I'd love to see you guys taste our traditional foods with a fast casual flare like they do it at Nish Dish! I've visited every time I'm in Toronto and it feels like home every time.

      NMC21887 no. Steven actually left Buzzfeed a couple seasons ago. He’s signed on to just do Worth It so we’ll always get new episodes. You’ll notice starting season 5 he doesn’t drive the car or lead the show anymore Andrew does and Annie comes on as the producer.

    I thought Steven is Malaysian and we have that black rice here in Malaysia. I think it's called Pulut Hitam rice. It's usually made for a dessert called bubur Pulut Hitam.

      Philippines have it too... When i saw it when i still live there... I find it weird but it is actually pretty sweet and a nice dessert. I know it is quite rare coz i do not see it often in market place there... But strangely enough, i always see it here in Cali (≧▽≦)

      @@RiaAmer yeah I'm guessing it's quite common in SEA such as Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, etc as mentioned by the chef in the video. And I am fairly surprised that they are common in Cali too. I guess there is everything there in Cali xD. Might have to pay a visit in the future.

      I think it’s different rice. Bubur pulut hitam uses black glutinous rice. Forbidden rice is not as sticky.

    When Steven said you can’t go wrong with rice I just remembered a story where my friend told me how she told her 14 year old younger brother to wash the rice before cooking it. He actually washed the rice with soap then cooked it and it turned blue. He’s not in charge of cooking rice anymore. 😅

      As a child eating rice was painful ,eating rice everyday was boring but my mom kept feeding me rice ,now as an adult I am addicted to RICE!!! Gimme rice and I can eat it anytime.
